Hosted on the patio (HOTP) is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, in a private compound in the west. You can say its ulu, but more often than not, I like such secluded places as it means less crowd and more peace for me. Though, I would not say I like HOTP as much as other places.

To get to HOTP, you can take a train to Labrador Park station on the circle line and walk for 5 min. Nobody will be able to chance upon HOTP because it is located right inside this private area where many other offices are located. I thought that was pretty weird.

I ordered the Eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was super sour and the whole dish just tasted like vinegar. Definitely one of the worst eggs benedict I've eaten.

Lucky we bought the Groupon. I definitely will not want to pay so much for such ridiculous food.

Traditional hainanese steamboat! Smile Jun 12, 2013

I first got to know of this Thien Kee Chicken Rice steamboat through instagram, and it turns out its a really popular steamboat place amongst the older generation. My mum frequents there with her friends and one day, we decided to have dinner there on a rainy night!

When I was there, I remembered it being featured on Ch 8 before! And I could somehow still remember that they mentioned that its a really traditional steamboat place amongst the Hainanese!

Anyway, it was really crowded when we were there around 8. Don't bother trying to ask the staff to get a seat for you, its self service! Just run to an empty spot or it'll get snatch up really quickly. Once you get a seat, try your utmost to get the attention of the staff (You will need a loud voice or some vigorous hand actions for this) to clear the table for you and to place your orders.

I think my mum ordered a standard set for 3, which comes in plates like the picture below. All items are just piled on top of one another, consisting of prawns, fish balls, cockles, fish maw, chicken slices etc. There's also fresh veg and eggs. You can choose to omit some items, like how we omitted beef.

The restaurant also serves other Hainanese food like chicken rice, which is why many often call this place the chicken rice steamboat place.
I especially love the hainanese chicken and the pork chop!! MUST MUST TRY!

For those who are used to eating those Teochew style fish head steamboat, they may not be used to this steamboat as the soup is really light, and some may call it tasteless. But I actually like this as it feels really healthy, plus the food items are really fresh. The whole combination of steamboat and chicken rice is really good as chicken rice tends to be unhealthy but the soup base is really light and refreshing. One thing that irks me is probably the crowd and the whole place is really noisy, but I guess that just shows how good the food is! ;)

Good for large group Smile Jun 12, 2013

My frog buddy suggested a new place for frog this time round, rather than the one at AMK (the branch of Lion City) that we always frequent. Good thing about this place is, it's located right beside a carpark, so you won't face any issues with parking like at Lion City.

The Gong Bao frog leg was good and super spicy! Some may not be able to take the spicyness but I guess you can ask them to put less chili. The frog is fresh and meat is tender, nothing to fault!

The Fuyong egg was a bit oily but if you eat with the porridge, its alright.

The waitress recommended us to take the roasted chicken. There's nothing special about this, tasted just like normal roasted chicken. It was quite oily.

Overall, it's a pretty good alternative if you don't wish to wait too long at Lion City. G7 Sin Ma is very big as compared to Lion City and they serve other tze char dishes as well. Many foreigners frequent there too.

Located at the 7th floor of a building along paya lebar road, there is no way you will chance upon this cafe!

The Seafood Aglio Olio was good! It smelled really good when served and the seafood was really fresh. I felt that it tasted normal from the usual aglio olio we get outside. It's less oily (which I prefer even though olive oil is supposedly healthy) and very spicy! I think they added chili flakes, makes the dish tasted like chinese version of dried noodles!

The Roasted Chicken Leg was nice too. Chicken was juicy and the sauce goes very well with it. The fries were hot and crispy too.

I love the brownie! Crispy edges with moist centre! And the nuts are bite sized its as if its non-existent (cos i hate nuts, so its good for me! lol)

Overall, I think the food is pretty good and prices reasonable! The staff is really friendly too! And the big plus point is, its quiet! My friends and I absolutely cannot stand being in a noisy cafe! Hope to go back again when their second level is done!

Awesome eggs ben Smile Jun 07, 2013

My third time back at Group Therapy, but first time reviewing it. I've had a good first impression of Group Therapy and its Eggs Benedict so I decided to go back again to see if standard has dropped.

And nope, the Eggs Benedict did not disappoint. If you like Eggs Benedict with thick creamy hollandaise sauce, here's the place to go. Served hot with perfectly poached egg on a thick crispy toast, this eggs ben is to die for! In fact, I feel that Group Therapy has one of the best eggs benedict out of so many that I've tried before.

The Mushroom and Chicken pie was served super hot, enough to scald your tongue. But it tasted very yummy! My friend commented that if would have been better if the chicken chunks were more tender though.

I like the design of Group Therapy. The dining area and the chillax area is separated by a wall.

With Department of Caffeine on the same stretch, Duxton Hill is definitely a place to go if you are looking to have a good brunch.
