Definitely got me thinking! Smile Oct 22, 2013

A casual gathering with friends brought us to Food For Thought, a little foodie place tucked away behind the Singapore Art Musemum.

Honestly I didnt expect much from the food and almost dismissed this place as one of those arty farty places which serve substandard food but use the ambience to make up for everything else.

But I am pleasantly surprise by the standards of the food in this place and their portions are humongous!

You can see the portions are really big especially the Baby Back ribs! It has to share among all of us before it could be finished! For the price and taste of the food(which is really good), this is definitely a place I would recommend to those looking for a place to chill out at with good food.

Vegan Ice Cream? Smile Oct 22, 2013
Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato

Clockwise starting from the top: Chendol, Green Tea, Peppermint Chocolate and Pumpkin

If you are skeptical about the lack of diary products in the ice-cream, you will be surprised! You are not shortchanged on the taste but instead it comes with a more robust flavour which I presume is from the brown rice.

My personal favourite is the Green Tea flavour, which gave a grainy and a really delicate aftertaste in your mouth that feels super healthy and rich.

So if you are looking for a yummy and healthy dessert this weekend, you know the place to head to now!

Comfy Cakes and Tea Smile Oct 22, 2013

I wasnt expecting much from their tea selection since their specialty seems to be coffee. But their Vanilla Bean Tea is soooo good! Super fragrant and it gives you such a relaxing feeling you just want to flop over to one corner and sleep!

Crumbly moist, this was a pretty good carrot cake, however, the Chrysthemum Carrot cake from Relish @ Serangoon Gardens is still my top favourite!

I love my entire experience in Maison Ikkoku and I see myself back there very often! I would have to admit that getting to the place takes quite a bit of walking from Bugis MRT and if you drive, parking can be quite a problem. But the taste of the cakes there? Definitely worth it!

Prices for cakes range from $6 onwards, not really cheap but I am definitely willing to shelve it out.

KFC better watch out! Smile Oct 22, 2013

There is a new korean fried chicken player in town, NeNe Chicken!

NeNe (“Yes Yes” in Korean) Chicken’s 2nd outlet is located at *SCAPE. I haven’t managed to head over to Star Vista to try out their chicken, so I am glad I managed to chance upon it while looking out for a lunch spot in orchard area.

Both the 2pc and tenders meal and the meals all came with 1 drink + 1 huge serving of fries + 1 pickled radish. The fries are thinner than usual and I kind of like it cause it seems to stay crispy longer!

There are several flavors available for the dishes at NENE CHICKEN and they all sound so delicious!

The Green Onion flavor is my favorite! Drenched in refreshing tangy onion sauce, It is one of the best choices to go for, for those who doesn’t like the spicy kick, but yet wants something strongly flavoured! This was also recommended by the service staff to us, so do go crazy with this!

The Snowing Cheese was probably the least favourite that day even though it still taste pretty good. With the fried chicken, the cheese makes the entire dish even more dry than it should be. If you are a cheesy fan, this would be the item for you cause they are definitely generous with the seasoning which coats every single part of the chicken!

VERDICT?
I enjoyed myself at NeNe Chicken and I am already planning to convince my colleagues to join me in order this delicious meal for lunch on this Friday afternoon! If you are looking for something new to try before heading for a movie at cineleisure, no harm stopping over at NeNe chicken to give it a go! I cant wait to try the sesame flavour which sounds like it is going to be a very fragrant version of NeNe chicken!

I do hope that NeNe Chicken can also keep their portions the way it is now because it definitely feels like a complete meal once we get a set. The chicken tenders are chunky and sizable. So *cross* fingers that 2 years down the road we can still enjoy this yummy generous meal!

Handcrafted Desserts Smile Feb 26, 2014

It seems like more and more cafes are choosing to set up below void decks to avoid the high cost of rental in premium districts.

Ciel Patisserie is a small little cafe that is located at Lorong Ah Soo. A first of its kind in the area, the store is located in between provisions store and a clinic, place which most doesn't even consider ideal for a cafe. Yet it a still sees a steady stream of customer in the area and one visit to the cafe I could see why.

With a limited amount of cakes made per day, you would definitely need to book ya cakes if you would like to make a evening trip as they are usually sold out by 5pm.

The cakes here are definitely beautifully crafted and I was so tempted to order every single one of them cause they just look so good! Too bad there was only 2 of us and limited stomach space.

A round shape dessert, it isn't particularly beautiful to photograph but the taste is exquisite. If you are one that go for heavy flavors, this will be the ideal choice for you. The velvety thick chocolate mousse together with the crunchy praline base complement each other perfectly well.

Apple & Cinnamon Tart

Apple & Cinnamon Tart

Well baked and not overly sweet, this tart is a refreshing alternative to the DOME. The size is a little small for the price, with a shallow base. But for the taste I am willing to shelve out the moolah.

Cappucino

Instant coffee from illy, it wasn't too bad a coffee to enjoy.

Service is generally good except for a grumpy staff (who was a little unfriendly) told me that if I was to see the entire selection, then I should be here early in the morning when they open. A sarcastic reply to what I deem as a innocent question of "Do you replenish your cakes when they run out? Cause i would like to check out the entire selection?"

VERDICT
Seating area is a bit limited in this area, so big groups of more than 6 might find it hard to get settings. Otherwise, this cafe is a pretty good place to chill out with friends over chatter and cakes.
