Categories : Italian | Ice Cream and Gelato

During one of the lazy Sunday afternoon, Vincent and I decided to head down to Tampines to walk through the platitude of malls in Tampines before heading over to Mischief <3 Us, an ice cream palour which has kindly extended an invitation to us to try out their offerings.

Situated near East View Primary school, it wasn’t the easiest of place to get to if you are a non-eastie. Google maps can solve everything though, so you should be able to walk, if not take a bus over. It isn’t a particular big shop, with about 15-20 seating capacity at maximum.

Both the strawberry and passionfruit caught my eye with their pretty colors and they did taste pretty good as well. I am particularly fond of the passionfruit flavor which is close match to the original fruits and they weren’t too sweet. Interestingly they weren’t recommended by the stall assistants, cause it found it better than some of the flavors they suggested.

CAPPUCCINO

Decided to go with some of the store favourites and order the Durian and Reese Buttercup flavors atop warm toasted waffles. The waffles arent fantastic with parts of the batter crispy and parts of it mushy, it didn’t give the crunchy bite which I personally feel is the bare minimum standard.

I found the Durian ice cream overwhelmingly sweet for my liking, and I swore off it after a couple of mouthfuls. The Reese Buttercup flavor was a much better choice which stayed pretty close to the original taste.

A robust brew which is not overly acidic, Vincent and I found ourselves slurping it up happily. It is a pretty generous cup of coffee, and probably one of the items which I would order again if I have the opportunity to visit them next time.

With a menu called Secret Martial Art Menu (武林秘籍) and the dining hall is called “Sword Discussion Room”(論劍堂), the restaurant is all decked up to go with the entire Chinese kungfu martial art world theme!

VERDICT

Sadly the entire meals was just mediocresad The dumpling skins are too thick, the potato is under-seasoned, the tofu, chicken and soup are all under flavored. I did wish the food was as good as the deco in the restaurant.

Probably the best cod fish I have ever taste. Tender soft with a light curry flavored sauce that doesn’t threaten to overwhelm its the cod.

VERDICT

A decadent lunch affair marked a great year for my work team. We had the new year meal which was pricier than usual their usual offering, you can check back on their website to see what are their offerings.

The food was perfect. It was the kind of meal which blows you away with flavours that you wouldn’t be able to get from anywhere else; as each beautiful plated dish was probably a work of art for the chefs as they beautifully balance the flavors.

Definitely a place I would recommend for those who are in the mood to indulge, anniversary dinners, birthday celebrations or even a company lunch. It is probably a little out of the way, but there is a buggy to pick you up at the taxi stand to get to the restaurant directly.

Romantic Spot for Lovers OK Feb 13, 2014

Looking for a simple date out, I head out to visit one Singapore’s romantic dining locations with my partner in food crime, Vincent.

It has hard not to understand the allure of Bliss House Theme Restaurant. Romantic flower settings that seem to pop out of a fairy tale book, with lush green carpet grass underneath our feet, whats not to love?

VERDICT

The dishes here are simple food, nothing spectacular and bordering on the ordinary. I didnt dislike anything, but there is nothing which makes me want to head back again to this pretty little place unless I want to have a pretty lunch to enjoy a meal with my girly girl friends.

It is still a nice place which you can consider heading once on a date night, or for the upcoming Valentine’s Day which you can check out their menu here. Do remember to make a reservation!

If you forgot to book a restaurant for your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day, you can check out Eggs & Berries, a cafe restaurant which is also offering a Valentine’s day menu!

Initially I wasnt expecting much from this little pop color theme cafe restaurant, but I started getting excited when I caught a a glimpse of what other people were eating, cause it looks so good!

BUTTERNUT CAPPUCCINO

Served up in a glass cup, the creamy butternut soup topped with a little milk froth was a mix of sweet and savory. It’s texture is somewhat similar to pumpkin soup, but with a lighter taste. Hardly surprising given that it does bear some resemblance to the pumpkin ( Link)

SOUS VIDE MARINATED DUCK BREAST

I had pretty high hopes for this dish after tasting the butternut soup but it turned out disappointing. The duck had a weird liver aftertaste, leaving the 4 of us at the table wondering if it was under cooked or that it just wasn’t fresh enough. Everything else on the plate was good, except the duck. Quite a pity.

SOUS VIDE SALMON FILLET

This was a great dish. Well cooked salmon with yummy sauce to boot, this is the dish of my choice for the Valentine’s Day menu. Before I forget, the eggs bendict that you see on our plates were gloriously good, it is the signature food item at Eggs & Berries!

CHOCOLATE LAVA AND BOSTON CREAM PIE

The chocolate lava cake had a molten center, but the chocolate wasn’t flowing freely when we cut into it. Such a pity cause it taste really good! If you aren’t picky about it, it is still a darn good dessert to end the meal with.

The boston cream pie came with a small little syringe stuck into it. It contains peach liqueur, which you can have fun injecting it into the cake. Overall the taste was light and refreshing, a good contrast to the lava cake which is heavier in flavor.

SGD 68++ per couple
(Add on SGD11++ for 2 selected couple smoothies)

VERDICT

I found the entire meal to be satisfying and considering what Eggs & Berries are offering for their Valentine’s Day menu, it is still pretty affordable compared to other restaurants which are pumping their prices sky-high.

This set lunch will be offered from the 13th – 16th February 2014, so there is no rush for you to have it on the actual valentine’s day itself. I hope you would enjoy this as much as I did.
