Paris Baguette latest outlet at Tampines Mall opened a couple of days ago.

A division of SPC Group, an International food and food service company based in Korea and ranked as top brand in the Korean bakery market.

Since there were so many variety of breads and pastries to select, I find it hard to make the right choice.

Anyway, I bought three types of pastries and a bottle of Mango Royal Pudding for this visit.

The price tag and label "When sweet potato makes garlic pastry" caught my eye. I decided to purchase a piece of this pastry to try.

I will try the bread loaves on my next visit.

Mango Royal Pudding S$4.50

The dainty packing of the Mango Pudding caught my eyes. At the base of the pudding is a layer of caramel. Rich creamy pudding different from the normal pudding packaging is irresistible.

I chose the Mango flavour instead of the Royal Pudding. The pudding just melts in the mouth leaving a milky lingering flavour.

From Left to Right:

Sweet Potato Priced: S$3.10

Flaky, buttery and with sweet potato puree inside the pie. I could not taste much of the garlic flavour probably due to the overall sweetness of the sweet potato puree.

Sweet Bacon Roll Priced: S$3.60

The roll made from a few strips of bacon wrapped around the bread roll.

The bacon roll is filled with small pieces mashed egg omelette.

Though its labelled as "sweet bacon roll" I find the taste is salty.

Apple Pastry Priced S$3.50

The apple pastry is very flaky, creamy and buttery. There was a generous amount of apple pastry in the pie. The apple pie is so flaky that I recommend you have a piece of tissue on hand to keep the flakes from dropping all over the floor.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to visit this outlet during lunch time. You may need to spend your full lunch time at the queue. There was only one cashier attending to a long queue. I noticed the young cashier was inexperienced and she seemed panicky.

There were also no seats available at the Paris Baguette Café.

Indian Rojak  OK Nov 19, 2013

As I was travelling along Changi Road, I noticed there was an Indian Rojak stall at Har Vassin Restaurant not very far from Joo Chiat Complex.

I ordered a plate of Indian Rojak comprising of Fish Cake $1.30, Tepung Kosong $0.90, Kantang (Potato) $0.90 and battered onions $0.90. Every item is deep fried.

In total I paid $4.00 for the Indian Rojak.

There were a generous amount of sliced onions and lettuce together with the Indian Rojak.

My favourite is the flour battered coated with onion and deep fried. Very crispy.

The potato was too soft, fish cake meat and the plain flour battered were edible.

The vibrant colour sweet red sauce that goes with the Indian Rojak was thick and rich with grounded peanut.

Mee Siam  OK Nov 19, 2013

Categories : Indian | Malay | Halal

Had a craving for Mee Siam this afternoon.

The popular dish of thin rice vermicelli in spicy, sweet and tangy flavour.

Bought a bowl of Mee Siam from Punggol Nasi Padang at Century Square.

The gravy for the Mee Siam was unabashedly bold with a good combination of dried shrimps, taucheo and tamarind juice. There were a generous amount of diced taupok with bean sprouts and a hard boiled egg.

The amount of bee hoon added to the Mee Siam was sufficient enough for a hearty lunch meal.

The sambal paste rounded off the dish giving a robust taste to the dish.

Mee Siam literally means Thai noodles in the Malay language.

The sweetness and sourish gravy of the Mee Siam is reminiscent of the flavours of Thailand.
The thinly sliced Chinese chives added flavour to the dish.

Priced: S$4.00

Famous Ayam Penyet OK Nov 19, 2013
Categories : Malay | Halal

Sri Bistari Changi Village Famous Ayam Penyet claimed to be the first and the original has two outlets in Singapore.

418 Bedok North Ave 2 #01-55 and 102 Joo Chait Road #01-01.

Aside from Ayam Penyet the shop at Joo Chiat also served various Western Dishes such as burgers, fish and chips, spaghetti, baked rice and even satay.

Disappointed that I was not able to eat my Simpang Bedok Yong Tau Foo at 301 Changi Road due to the closure of the shop, I decided to take a stroll along Joo Chiat Road to find some interesting food.

Spotted Sri Bistari and ordered two packets of Ayam Penyet take-away for lunch.

Each packet cost S$5.50.

While the lady boss was reheating the chicken breast for my take-away, I could smell the fragrance of the chicken from the deep fryer.

There was a big piece of deep fried Ayam Penyet (smashed fried chicken)with a few pieces of keropok and cucumber slices.

A packet of soup and a small tub of sambal to go along with the meal.

I cant wait to savour the chicken flesh.

When I reached home, I quickly unpack the lunch box and to my surprise I saw the huge piece of chicken looked very dry though fragrant. The meat was tough and difficult to chew. sad

The nasi (rice) was fluffy and tasty and has the same flavour as the Hainanese chicken rice.

The soup was tasty with sprinkled of fried shallots.

The sambal has the taste of prawn paste. Surprisingly the chilli paste was not hot unlike other Ayam Penyet outlets.

It would have been a perfect lunch if the chicken meat was much tender.

I believed the toughness and the dryness of the chicken meat could have resulted from the several attempts of reheating the chicken from previous day supply.

Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop | Halal

There are four variety of rojak served at this halal stall.

Tahu Bakar aka Toasted Beancurd
Char Kway Bakar aka Toasted You Tiao
Rojak Petis aka similar to Chinese Rojak (with assorted combination)
Rojak Set A has a combination of grilled cuttlefish strip, you tiao, century egg combination.

Since this is my first visit to the coffee shop, I decided to try the Char Kway Bakar or toasted you tiao for S$3.00 per packet.

With his permission I managed to capture his skill in preparing the rojak for my take-away.

There were a good mix of toasted peanut gravy but still not too fine, while eating I could taste the texture of the peanuts. The you tiao toasted in the mini toaster before cutting them into small pieces combine with chilli paste and prawn paste. A bit of sourishness from the lime juice and yet fragrance from the slices of the ginger flower roots.
