Tangs Market reopened with nine new stalls featuring hawker heritage fare.

One of the nine stalls is the Jia Jia Penang Lor Selamat Fried Oyster.

I ordered a plate of fried oyster for S$5.00.

I like the texture of the fried oyster.

Since I was the first customer of the day, it took almost ten minutes for the cook to prepare the first batch of oyster omelette. The egg omelette was a bit soft and wobbly inside but not over overwhelmingly starched.

There were five pieces of plump oysters. The oysters were cooked to perfection not too dried out or overcooked.

There were a good mixture of eggs and tapioca flour.

Garnished with a generous amount of chopped spring onions.

Though it’s a bit oily, I like the overall flavour. It wasn’t too salty.

The oysters was fresh unlike those shrivelled ones that we normally get from the hawker centre.

I requested for separate chilli sauce to go along with the fried oyster. The tangy chilli sauce has vinegar added so it’s a bit sourish but palatable and boost my appetite.

Sambal Clams (Lala) Smile Nov 30, 2013

When visiting the NTUC Fairprice supermarket nearby to get some sauces for a barbeque party, we decided to have an early dinner.

Came across this Zi Char stall and we decided to order a plate of sambal clams (Lala) to go along with the plate of fried rice.

The fried rice was within normal standard but we enjoy more of the sambal clams.

Cooked with plenty of sambal and not too spicy, the gravy was not too watery and sufficiently thick enough to blend with the fried rice. Slices of pineapple cubes and generous amount of spring onions enhanced the flavour of the well cooked clams.

The sambal clams are not available sometimes but we were fortunate that evening.

Priced: S$10.00 for the Sambal Clams and S$6.00 for the fried rice (for 2 paxs).

Dark Chocolate Truffles OK Nov 30, 2013
Categories : Bakery | Desserts and Cakes

Awfully Chocolate focused more on quality than quantity.

Though their outlets are limited in selection, Awfully Chocolates having currently ten outlets in Singapore is one of the chocolate provider that produces real quality chocolate.

These dark chocolate truffles are specially hand cut truffles sold by weight at $13.50 per 100g.

Though bitter rich in taste, these dark chocolate truffles are beautiful hand cut into cubes and thoroughly coated or dusted with cocoa powder.

Its believed that dark chocolate helps to reduce stress.

Sliced Cake In A Jar OK Nov 29, 2013
Categories : Bakery

Guru Nice Bakery was previously known as The Fresh Bakery.

Their first outlet opened in 2005 in a small kitchen at North Bridge Road Hawker Centre.

Now with their business expansion, their bread, jar cakes and cupcakes are sold at bigger premise in Tampines.

I was recommended to try their jar cake. From the six flavours, and being a mango lover.

I chose the tropical mango cheese in jar.

Indeed an innovative concept of storing a slice piece of cake and there is no hassle about having to clean you hand after eating as a plastic spoon comes along with the purchase.

Also, after consuming the cake, the jar can be recycled for other storage purpose.

I find the price expensive and there is nothing very special about the jar cake other than the decorative piece of paper that wrapped round the cover of the jar and a piece of string being tied to the jar bottle.

The taste is similar to normal sliced cake. In fact the ingredient are a bit dry but there is the freshness of the mango bits surrounding the slice cake.

Priced at S$5.50 per jar.

Penyet Day with Warungindo OK Nov 29, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indonesian | Halal

Just like traditional Ayam Penyet (Smashed Chicken) , WarungIndo served plain rice and chicken or even fish fillet with a piece of
Tempeh (fermented soy bean cake), a slice of fried beancurd with lots of crunchy golden batter bits, few slices of cabbages and of course most importantly the chilli sambal.

A packet of Nasi Ayam Penyet cost S$5.50.

The chicken is pretty tender though crispy on the outside. Not dry like some Ayam Penyet suppliers.

Even though the overall deco of the shop does not look impressive, this Ayam Penyet is quiet good.

The chilli sambal is hot and spicy and goes well with the rice.

Other dishes on their menu also included Ayam Balado (Fried Chicken in Chilli and Tomato Sauce), Dory Fish Penyet, Sotong Penyet, Grilled Chicken, Bee Hoon Soto, Gado Gado and many other variety of Indonesian food.
