Cai Long Coffee OK Aug 06, 2013
Categories : Hawker Centre

I was looking for something strong to perk me up in the morning and decided to drink a cup of black coffee from Cai Long. Cai Long's coffee was pretty aromatic, just taking in a whiff of the coffee aroma was sufficient to wake me up. The black coffee was strong with a bitter aftertaste, but that is to be expected of black coffee. For those who enjoy the bitterness, black coffee is a better choice than those mixed with milk, and cai long certainly serves a good cup of black coffee

Xin Xin You Tiao OK Aug 06, 2013

The You Tiaos (fried dough stick) are normally eaten with soya bean curd but I had them alone this time round for breakfast. The You Tiaos from Xin Xin You Tiao are really tasty and crispy on the outside which is pretty much all you would ask for in a You Tiao. I would recommend eating them straight after buying them, if not the You Tiao may become soggy and cold when you bring them home.

Itacho Sushi Smile Aug 06, 2013

Itacho has to be one of my favourite sushi chains ever and I have an almost irresistible compulsion to visit it every week. Despite the crazy queue outside Itacho, me and my friend decided to forgo shopping and join the queue. To our disappointment, when we finally entered the restaurant, we were told that all sushi topped with roasted salmon (my favorites) are unavailable.

I had decided to eat the spring roll and some roasted scallop sushi. The spring roll is different from the normal spring rolls you get at dim sum restaurants, with the colour of the fried skin on the outside being the biggest difference. The vegetable fillings were well complimented by the crisp skin, though the spring rolls were almost dripping in oil when they were served.

The roasted scallop sushi were delicious. The scallops were really juicy and roasted just enough for their to be a slight (though not overwhelming) burnt taste. I highly recommend finishing the sushi at one go, thats the best way to experience the explosion of taste that can only come with good sushi!

All in all, it was a good dinner though I really wished that the roasted salmon sushi was available.

Vegeterian Bee Hoon  OK Aug 06, 2013

I wanted to have a simple lunch at a nearby coffee shop and decided on vegetarian bee hoon. Boon Keng Food Stall offers rather average tasting vegetarian bee hoon, though you can always spruce your bee hoon up with some vegetables. The bee hoon did not really have any wok's breath taste but you can't really ask for much at a simple neighbourhood stall. Nonetheless, it was a cheap and filling meal for around $2.50.

Mr bean Smile Aug 02, 2013

I got the watermelon soya milk from Mr Bean for $2. It is one of my favourite drinks as it is a healthier choice and yet very tasty. The drink is really refreshing and suitable for a hot day. I do want to note however that the taste of this drink does vary depending on the staff that serves you. I've tasted some that has too little watermelon taste which was rather disappointing.
