We reached the cafe at about 3pm on a tuesday afternoon. Personally I like this place quite a fair bit as it's a good and quiet place for catching up with friends.
we ordered wagyu beef salad, chocolate lava cake ,hot latte and long macchiatto. Both of me and my friend found that the wagyu beef was a little bit too fatty and overcooked. As a dessert person, I simply love the lava cake however portion is a bit too big for 1 pax to finish, would suggest 2 to share. No complain for the coffee.
Overall,I would still come back here to catch up with friends as it's a quiet place in the midst of e busy orchard road.

Forever long q OK Sep 24, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

This is one of my fav branch for sushi tei. However Q is always very long.Simply love the modern Zen looking restaurant that always made me feel very relaxed everytime I am there.
I had 5 dishes in total for 2 pax. Hanasaki ika tempura ($6) , chawanmushi ($4.20) , ikura chawanmushi ($7.80), zaru soba($8.50) , salmon sashimi small one($8) and spent $40.60 in total after service charge and gst.
Personally I love the hanasaki ika tempura which is fried squid. This is a very yummy appetiser which has a crispy fried batter even when it turned cold. However was kinda disappointed that the dish was served cold.chawanmushi is really good and is of a bigger portion as compare to what itacho served.Sashimi was not really fresh ,maybe is bcos I took it from the belt.Zaru soba is served in quite a big portion.
Overall : Service was good even though it was a friday evening.Food was served fast so no complaints. Thus it's likely I will ne back again.
P.S: Order the sashimi from the server if u prefer fresher salmon.

We ordered the quarter chicken which come with an option of vegetables(mixed peas), salad (a variety of 4 salads to choose from) or chips at $15.50 with a cup of coffee. The chicken is quite tender but will be better if u skip the sauce. I chose rocket salad and the pasta salad which is quite bland. Coffee wasn't fragrant and was not hot.
The service was not too fantastic but for e price paid, I think is ok to ignore the not so friendly servers. However if u are looking for any form of service, avoid this place at all cost. The ambiance is relaxing with wind blowing if you sit outside but be beware of messy hairdo after that.

Service : Very friendly staff and I love the fact that most of the servers were always having a very smiley face.

Ambience : Cosy orange lightings always made me feel relaxed and very comfortable. On top of that, great location!! Just a few mins walk to Buona Vista MRT.How not to love Star vista, right? However I think that the seatings are too close to each other thus I can literally hear whatever my "neighbours" were gossiping about.

Food : As it was only me and another friend thus we can only order 1 dish to share as we are both not very big eater. So we ordered pork knuckles, one of their signature. The portion was relatively huge for 2 to share and we didnt manage to finish it.However ,I must highlight that the pork knuckle was quite good, love the crispy roasted skin and the porky pig smell wasn't too overpowering. On top of that, it wasnt too oily and tasted good even on its own without the sauce.Beside that ,I feel that it was quite a filling meal for 2.

Overall : Great experience and I will definitely go back again to try other food on the menu.

Teleported back to the 50s OK Sep 05, 2013

Categories : Asian Variety | Café | Desserts and Cakes

Love the nostalgic ambiance of the place, from the background music to the furniture and the deco in the cafe, you can literally feel that u have been teleported back to the 50s.Finally we can see more of these cafes popping out in Singapore. However,I wasn't too impressed with the desserts there.
As we had our lunch before we popped by Sinpopo brand thus we ordered only the desserts ,Gula Melaka Soft Jelly ($4.90),Sago Pudding ($3.90)and a cup of kopi O($1.60).
The gula melaka soft jelly was too sweet for my liking and overall it was just very ordinary and nothing special. As for the sago pudding,I was kinda disappointed when it arrived in a rather liquid form cos I was expecting something more solidified.
Will I go back again? I seriously would think twice before going back as I wasn't too impressed with the menu and the price that was tagged to the food. However for the ambiance,I might cos I left rather relaxed soaking in the retro nostalgic setting that Sinpopo brand has
