Badoque is located in Simpang Bedok, a popular “makan” spot, especially for Halal food. You’d be spoiled for choice by the various types of Halal eateries here, ranging from Western food, fast food to local cooked dishes or zi char.
We came on a weekend evening, and the area was packed. Stepping inside, we were greeted by the café’s modern decor – black painted walls adorned with framed pictures and pop-up alphabets, with the choice of an air conditioned or al fresco sitting area. The menu was vibrantly coloured, which is lovely, but it was also kind of hard to find what we wanted since the food items were all over the place.
On the whole, we found the food portions here huge, so we were speculating that was probably what kept the customers coming back, especially since we find that the food quality here wasn’t exactly top notch. That said, if you intend to pay a visit to Badoque, we recommend giving the Naked Salmon, Mango Yoghurt smoothie and Mango Soda a try.

The shop is decorated with old posters featuring those 60s’ celebrities, vintage wooden furniture, the biscuit tins, black and white mosaic flooring to evoke a 1960s atmosphere. An old CRT television was placed right at the entrance, the red painted iron sliding gate reminiscent of the old shop houses in some of the old estates, the shop is decorated with old posters featuring those 60s’ celebrities, vintage wooden furniture, the biscuit tins, black and white mosaic flooring to evoke a 1960s atmosphere. A good dose of nostalgia rarely found in modernized Singapore.
However, the food serves are just average, nothing really impressed us. Some of the desserts served were too sweet to our liking while some mains served were too salty for us. Maybe because it’s managed by youngsters, there wasn’t nostalgia in every mouthful as we had hoped.
Mains, desserts and drinks you might want to give a shot:
Zi Pao Kai with Beehoon ($8.90)
Sng Muay Pop ($3.90)
Fake bird’s nest ($2.90)

We ordered the S$5 serving and waited for a solid 50 minutes in the queue – there were about 25 people in the queue and it moved really slowly, each serving being dished out at a seemingly snail’s pace.
The curry mee comes with the standard fluffy fried beancurd (tau pok), slices of fish cake, potatoes and chunks of white steamed chicken. We went for our usual mix of yellow noodle and bee hoon.
So how did it fare? Unfortunately, it lacked the ‘wow’ factor for us. While the noodle was firm and not too soggy, the curry was darker and diluted as compared to Ah Heng curry mee, was not fiercely hot and came with a tad of sweetness. The coconut flavour was not too distinct as well.

Wah Kee Big Prawn Mee occupies a stall in the Pek Kio Market and Food Centre, and honestly speaking, this is the first time in our lives visiting this food centre and we had no clue where it was at first. The food centre is actually hidden in one of the small estates near the Serangoon area, with few HDB units making up the small community. Yet another happy discovery by The Glutton Family!
We tried the $5 dry version prawn mee and the $10 big prawn soup version.
The broth was good but how about the mee? We came with high expectations but the dry prawn mee was mediocre, the chili sauce was too bland and the sourness from the excessive vinegar overpowered everything in the bowl of prawn mee. Though the mee has the right texture and the prawns were fresh, however, the four of us agreed that this is too far off the mark to be confidently called a good prawn mee.
