Western pasta Cry Aug 16, 2014   (Related Review)

This eighteen chefs outlet at The Cathay is one of the many outlets opened. I thought this is the only one.

Their menu looks good but is not. The service could be better. Ordered the aglio olio and set B. Set B is served with drinks and soup. The mushroom is good, enough mushroom taste and not diluted. However, the aglio olio pasta is bland. It is just pasta that was cooked in boiling water and not fried well with olive oil. The temperature of the fire is not enough such that the fragrant of the dish is not set out. The sauce on top of the chicken taste a bit weird, not the normal mushroom sauce. Overall, the dish is not worth it.

Western food Cry Aug 16, 2014

Heard a lot about eighteen chefs and decided to try it. I went to the one at dhoby ghaut. The first time I pass by it the menu outside looks interesting. They hav western pasta and baked rice at a cheap price. You can choose from the menu or the be your own chef. This concept is quite new. I tried the double cheese baked rice with cream white sauce and pan - grilled fish. The baked rice came and I can see that the rice is white rice and flavoured rice. It looks like any normal baked rice but it is not served hot, which is disappointing. It is suppose to be double cheese but taste like just a normal layer. It doesn't have a different mozzarella cheese as described. The pan - grilled fish looks like fried chicken. At first I thought they got me the wrong dish. The fish is salty. The rice is plain and not fragrant at all. I do not find it worth it! I could have baked this at home and achieve a better taste.

The menu is quite messy with the student offer. Probably they should have taken our order set by set rather than altogether. The service of the staff is not good as well. They do not serve with a smile and the staff talk to each other loudly in front of the customers.

Cheap nasi Smile Aug 16, 2014

Categories : Hawker Centre | Noodles

Located just opposite bugis street, Albert centre has many delicacies. One of them is the nasi lemak at the second row corner. It always has a queue but is relatively fast.

I love nasi lemak! I usually order set 2. The rice is fragrant, chicken wing is crispy and tasty, the egg is running, peanuts and ikan billis is crunchy and well-fried. Most importantly, it only cost S$2.50. Super worth it! Sometimes, I will even have craving for this. I have a friend from Hong Kong who fell for nasi lemak because of this. There are other sets available and you can choose ala carte as well. They also have beehoon and noodles.

Thick sashimi OK Aug 16, 2014
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Standing sushi bar, it has 2 outlets. One is at bras basah beside SAM and food for thought. On Mondays and Thursdays, their salmon sashimi is $3 for 5 pieces. It's no wonder there is always a long queue. Even when we reach there at 6.30pm, we still have to wait for 30 - 60mins.

Some of the other dishes like maki is quite expensive. The Don is still considered pretty reasonable. The service is ok, though they will ask if you need to order more if not they will pass the bill to you without you asking. This is their way of chasing customers away after they are done so that others can enter.

The sashimi is thick and juicy as shown in the photos. It is satisfying though it would be better if served cold. Usually I will get sick of it after 2 plates as more of it without other sushi to go along will be too much to take. The sashimi is fresh and worth it!

blackball Smile Aug 16, 2014

Categories : Taiwanese | Chinese Desserts | Bubble Tea/ Tea

Blackball is a Taiwan dessert eatery place. The best is the blackball signature. There is a choice of temperature, hot, warm, cold or icy. I prefer the warm one as the cold one is like ice kacang. The warm one is served with milk and inside there are all types of balls. Like yam balls, pumpkin balls, pearls, green tea, red bean etc topped with grass jelly. It is delicious. If you like milk tea, this sweet dish is a must try. The cold one will get diluted when the ice melt and it will muster the taste of the dessert.
