Air-con steamboat OK Sep 20, 2013
Categories : Steamboat/Hot Pot

There are a selection as many as 7 soup base here and each of us get to choose our preferred soup base, no need to share, super hygienic! And what's more, they have unique soup base like laska and silky porridge? I wonder what's silky porridge base is.

And oh, they are using electric thermal stove, so you wont feel the heat of the flame directed at you. Thumbs up!

Sauce wise, you can create your own with the assortment. I sort of put a bit of everything together, and surprisingly it was quite good! My personal tip, fried garlic is a must! But if you are totally clueless how to mix your own sauce, you can follow their "recipe" as well. =)

Food variety is pretty good, ranging from meats to seafood to vegetable, as well as cooked stuff. To see more, you can refer to their menu online.

Overall, I think this will definitely be my choice if I feel like eating steamboat. Food wise, it actually dun diff much from other steamboat places, but in term of the environment wise, it definitely scores a better grade.

Itacho Sushi OK Sep 20, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Had been hearing ravings for Itacho for quite some time. Wanted to try it earlier but just dun feel like queueing for it. With these, my expectations for it was pretty high. Hey, there must be reasons why the queue was forever long at Orchard Ion right?

We finally got our chance to try it at PS at a non dinner time.

The menu looked impressive with the many pictures. Then again, the ordering forms were confusing ~ there were different coloured forms for different food categories. Why makes life so complicated? Aiyo!

We didnt order a lot, just some sushi, teriyaki chicken rice etc. Pretty standard, I would say. In other words, not impressive and definitely not worth my time queuing, I rather go sushi tei for more quality sushi.

Something that really puzzled me. They got this salmon with soy sauce at 40cents, cheap rite?

We were there at about 5pm+. When we first asked for it, the waitress said that it was not ready yet. Half way through our course, we asked again, still dun have. Nevermind, wait lor. By the time we finished all our food, it was officially dinner time like 6plus 7pm. The waitress still said that it was not available! Wah lau, when is this 40 cents sushi ever ready lah! So ya, I never get to order it at all. =_=

Colourful Xiao Long Bao OK Sep 20, 2013
Categories : Shanghainese | Restaurant | Dim Sum | Noodles

My first encounter with Paradise Dynasty wasn't good.

We arranged to go there for dinner with friends on a weekend. By the way, they don't allow reservations, so you need to go there to take queue number and wait. Yup, like seeing a doctor.

Knowing that, we were there at about 6pm. We got our queue number and just stood against the railing and chatted while waiting. Then, my fren saw our number flashing. By the time we walked over, which probably took only a few seconds, our table was given up to the next group. We were dumbfounded. And the funny part was, we were told that we had to queue again for the next big table. Service was definitely not impressive and obviously, we left for the next restaurant.

*******

As I wanted to try the colourful xiao long bao mah, we visited the place again.

The different colour represent different fillings such as cheese pork, szechuan, ginseng, foie gras etc. My boyfriend called this "恶心小笼包" (aka disgusting dumplings).

For me, the taste for most were acceptable. The flavorings were not strong in the first case, so tasted almost like the normal pork dumplings.

That's how restaurants attract customers ~ come up with new dishes with fanciful display and names. But ultimately, the taste is the deciding factor for returning customers. I was not impressed by the taste, pretty normal.

Villa Di Parma OK Sep 20, 2013
Categories : Italian | Restaurant | Pasta | Kids-Friendly

First time trying out this home styled Italian restaurant.

Our orders:

1) Hot Chocolate - $5.90

Nice chocolate drink that was not too sweet. =)

2) Foccacia - On the house

Complimentary bread, with nice herb fragrance with crispy crust.

3) Grilled Italian Sausages - $9.80

Oooo, me & bf liked this! This was actually "bangers and mash" served in another manner - the sausages were sliced for our convenience and the mash potato acted as the dipping instead. Cool.

Both were good to eat on their own, especially the mash potato ~ nice & creamy. The sausages tasted like salami, slightly spicy but tolerable. We finished the dish in no time.

4) Smoked Duck Pizza - $23.80

This was slightly disappointing. Okay, the crust was crispy alright, the smoked duck was great & the vege were refreshing.

Then again, this was just salad placed on top of the crust, with no cheese. Pizza with no cheese at all? It just didnt seem quite right! The crust without the cheese, just tasted like biscuit & flour, nothing spectacular. Therefore, I felt that this was a little overpriced. Definitely not my choice next time.

5) Tiramisu - $12.90

Finally, tiramisu to end off the dinner with a sweet note. The serving was big, so be prepared to leave some stomach room hor.

Btw, all prices are inclusive of GST! You pay what you see on the menu, coolz

Food For Thought OK Sep 20, 2013
Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes | Pasta | Burgers and Sandwiches | Kids-Friendly

As its slogan says, it's a place of Good Food For A Good Cause. =)

Came here with my gal frens for a early dinner and good thing we did! Why? Because the breakfast & pancake menu only serve until 530pm. So remember to come here earlier!

Our orders:

1) Full Works - $18
Lot of variety served in one plate and the colourful items surely whet up our appetite!

2) Sausage Tomato Linguine - $15
Really liked this linguine ~ I can taste natural sweetness of fresh tomato in this dish, which definitely tasted much better than those bottled tomato pasta sauce.

3) Back Ribs - $24

Kinda sweet for one person consumption. It's actually a better idea to share the dish where you can "share" the sweetness and enjoyed the tender meat falling apart from the ribs. Served with lotza tomato and creamy mash potato.

P.S: I visited the branch at Queen Street but it's now called Fast Food For Thought, no longer serving proper meals.
