Sunny side ups

Sunny side ups

Was planning to go to another café for brunch, but that place was packed to the brim.

We then chanced upon this café and after glancing through the menu, our hungry tummies decided for us. We stayed.

The picture shows my order for today. Part of their all day breakfast food offerings.

Sunny side ups served on thick toast, grilled ham, cheddar, smashed avocado. I do not like it.

The bread was soggy and I was surprised that despite its state, it was still difficult to slice. Perhaps the knife was blunt.

Cockles fried with garlic

Cockles fried with garlic

This is a subsidiary of the more popular and well-known outlet at Hitachi tower (Raffles place).

This dish was ordered to accompany drinks.

Personally disappointed and not impressed. They served it with sambal chilli by the side, which we felt were not suitable. They stir-fried the full cockles with garlic but not much of the taste went to the shellfish within.

Saddest part was some of the cockles were stale sad

Service staff standards were divided. A few were friendly and helpful but the rest pretended not to see when you already met their line of sight.

Lunch on a work day Cry Dec 27, 2013

Mee Sua and Pig Liver in soup

Mee Sua and Pig Liver in soup

My office is now near this area and upon a colleague's suggestion, we decided to travel to Tai Seng for lunch.

As expected, the place is packed as it was lunch time.

Ordering is via an iPad tucked neatly in a custom-made drawer under the table surface.

Service was relatively slow today and they forgot a few of the food items we ordered.

I had pig's liver in soup with mee sua today. The soup was heavily peppered but I am fine for I enjoy the taste of pepper. The liver was sliced evenly but were a little over cooked.

We asked for the bill for countless times. A colleague got impatient and went to the counter. That was when we realised that the staff are very forgetful that day. Everyone in the queue complained of food items which never arrived. The cashier just acknowledged each person with the response that he will purge that item from the bill accordingly. No apology and no clarification as to whether you would still want the drink/food.

Ordering via iPad is cool for a coffeeshop styled eatery. But it stops here.

Fastfood in a slower pace Cry Dec 27, 2013

Poutine

Poutine

This is basically thick cut fries, drowned in brown gravy, with some melted cheese curds and they raved that this is served in Quebec-style.

I am not a fan of this dish. Too salty for me.

This place has limited seating space. Service staff were moderately friendly. However, the prices are higher as compared to the more popular fast food chains in Singapore.

Pasta or udon? Cry Dec 14, 2013

Categories : Italian | Hotel | Restaurant | Pasta | Pizza

The service is impolite. The door host is suspected to be a non local (from accent) and does not look at you in the eye when she bothered replying you, at all. that is unacceptable in the service industry IMO.

Now for this dish. I should have loved it for it was filled with mushrooms. But I cannot and do not. What was interesting though, was that the pasta used here would be easily mistaken to be the familiar japanese udon via the naked eye. When you bite into it, you will find that this is less chewy and mildly sticky. The sauce is spicy tomato but I tasted only tomato and no spiciness.
