Substandard Korean food >< Cry Nov 30, 2013

Went to this Korean place despite hearing bad comments from my friends before only because of the Groupon discount and my liking for Korean food. Thus I thought yeah why not give the place a try then mad

I think I will jump to the conclusion now that the standard here is really way below my expectations. I would never visit the place again. The only commendable point is just that the place has good ambiance at the alfresco seating area.

Had Beef Japchae ($8) and Scallion pancake ($8.50). The former was 95% glass noodles with shreds of capsicum with only a few pathetic beef shreds. The latter was worse, just pancake dough and perhaps some bacon strips could be seen.

Ordered the Army Stew ($32), Bibimbap ($14), Yuzu Chic ($20) as our mains. The stew was alright. Bibimbap was not served in a stone pot and it was cold by the time everything was mixed together. The Yuzu Chicken could not be worse as the chunks of meat were near to tasteless.

Side dishes was pathetically limited with only three sides. There were four of us and the only serving given was surprisingly small that I mistakenly assumed initially that everyone was supposed to have their own set of side dishes separately.

My conclusion, as mentioned, the place has poor standards. Seriously wonder how this place could have survived still so far till now.

This place is quite a new establishment in 313 replacing the old restaurant (it was Blue Mountain Cafe I think). There is a separate menu catered especially for desserts. Being a Matcha fan, I went in with full eagerness to try the desserts out.

Ordered a Macha Kakigori ($8) and Abekawa with Gelato ($8). The former was actually Macha-flavoured ice with Vanilla soft serve plus some side toppings. It was nothing extraordinary except for the fact the toppings included awkwardly a few wolfberry and the Chinese snow fungus. On the other hand the latter was quite a let down. The oven-baked Mochi was too hard to be chewy.

Based on this first dining experience, I think I would not come back to this place again. I might as well go St Marc since it is more reasonably-priced with good standards.

Was up early for breakfast at Holland Village and not many places were open. Chanced upon this new eating place and was eager to try their breakfast items out chopstick

Ordered their Egg Benedict ($12.50) and Egg Florentine ($15) plus two Cappuccino. The coffee was so-so, but was altogether even more disappointed that my poached eggs were not up to expectations at all. The egg yolk was not runny but semi-solid. The shape of the egg looked awkwardly small on top of the muffin. It was quite a let down.

However the only plus point was the service. I gave credit to how earnest and sincere the owner of the place was. He was very forthcoming to my feedback about the quality of the poached eggs. I hope the quality could be improved in the future.

This new Korean restaurant took over Kim's family, renovated the place with now indoor air-conditioned seats. Same restaurant unit, same cuisine run by Koreans too but to my great dismay, huge difference in standards.

I was expecting real good Korean food initially since it is run by Koreans, at least as good as the previous Korean restaurant owner. Firstly, I was surprised how limited the menu choices were. All the dishes are meant for sharing except for two noodles dishes. Price was not cheap so I actually expected it to be even better quality.

I can only say I was utterly disappointed. Ordered the KimChi Stew ($35). I was shocked that the meat used were hotdogs while the noodles was just Maggie instant noodles. Soup taste was alright but it is ridiculous to pay that much for these kind of soup ingredients.

There were only four side dishes. Staffing was limited so it took quite some while to get them replenished.

I would definitely not step into this place again sad I can get much better Korean food with the same amount of money spent.

Left with disappointment >< Cry Oct 18, 2013

I am all along a Soup Spoon fan. I love their beef rendition, Simon Chic Garfunkel, mushroom and tomato soup. Thus, I have naturally high expectations about this new establishment. Headed down to try out their new Brunch menu but aww what a let down sad

Had the Union's SouperBreakfast ($16.50) with sous-vide eggs and the Chicken Pho ($7.50). I like that the sausage tasted spicy, otherwise it was quite ordinary. Small portion and pricey, I could have a better breakfast set elsewhere and pay less even.

Adding on to that, the ultimate disappointment was with the Chicken Pho. The soup was plain, nothing whatsoever was nice about it. Had the hot Vietnamese Drip coffee add-on with the noodles, again, it was a disappointment too. The coffee was not strong at all. The cup looked cute, but the coffee was a no-no. I rather spend on buying kopi from Yakun.

In conclusion, I am disappointed with the new Farmer's Brunch menu. I don't think I would want to try the other food items in the menu anymore although my sweet tooth is calling me to try out the RedVelvet Waffles. I guess it would be better to just stick with the soups instead.
