Empty Calories >< OK Nov 30, 2013

Having a sweet tooth myself, I have never been able to understand the raving after macaroons. Doubting how could these sugary stuff be that good, I tried almost all of the flavours of the macaroons from Laduree which is supposedly be one of the best places to get macaroons.

Umm.. well I regretted it. Too sweet. Nothing extraordinary. Yeah but the meringue was soft enough and melted quite nicely in the mouth. But I admit honestly, I am biased in feeling so negative against macaroons. They were too sweet and not worth the calories at all. shocked

Expensive version of CBTL OK Nov 30, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American | Café | Halal | Coffee

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf's more atas restaurant, first started in MBS, is opening more and more branches in the city center. Coffee is as good as normal CBTL. Menu has a good number of varieties.

The waffle was alright, a bit too dense, not fluffy enough. Not the best waffle I have had but not too bad.

The Breakfast platter was quite a disappointment. The bacon was burnt. The tomatoes served was pathetically limited to just two small cherry-sized tomatoes. The sausages tasted bland. Not value-for-money at all, definitely a no-no.

This is my only consolation. Chicken breast was still tender enough. And well nothing goes wrong with tomatoes, making the whole pasta palatable enough! ^^

The food is overall not bad with a few misses for certain dishes.

A Chinese Curry-themed meal OK Nov 25, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Fusion

I am never much of a curry fan. But my friend, who is an avid fan of all types of curry, strongly recommends the place. So yeah I therefore gave it a try since many said curry, minus the coconut milk haha, has the beneficial effect of boosting immunity and anti-inflammatory property.

The decorations of the place are pretty Chinese-ish with crockeries of the olden days and red Chinese paintings. This new outlet seems to be relocated from the old curry place in Marina South food court in the past. However many said the place is actually not related at all. Not having tried the original version in the past, it is hard to determine if this place is just an imitation.

Anyway, this curry-themed restaurant has more than just curry dishes to offer. It is famous for their fish head curry which is very huge in portion. We ordered the buddy meal which comprises a pot of curry chicken and a pot of curry vegetables with two rice and two barley drinks. It is pretty reasonable as it all added up only to $13. I didn't want to try their signature as it would be too much then for two persons.

The curry gravy was smooth in texture and the spiciness was still acceptable. However, I used to eat the yellowish kind of curry while the version here looked reddish like The Masala. Overall the place was quite generous with the portion of meat, vegetables and toupok in the curry. It definitely would appeal much to my curry fan friend haha.. but hmm not me and also to those who would actually prefer the usual yellowish curry gravy lol

Over-rated Tarts OK Nov 20, 2013
Categories : American | Bakery | High Tea

Have always heard from my pastries-lover friend that Drips has the best tarts.. And was surprised to actually seen there is a newly opened branch nearby my house in Sunset Way lol

Now that distance is no longer an issue for me to try their tarts out, I waited no further and bought two tarts though the pricing is actually slightly steep ><

Bought the Strawberry Raspberry tart ($7.50) and the Brandied Cherry pie ($5.50). The former was quite good with fresh fruits and the tart base was still crunchy. But I think it was nothing extraordinary that would deserve such rave comments from that friend of mine -.-

As for the Cherry pie, I do not recommend this as it is far too sweet for my liking with not a slightest trace of alcohol at all, perhaps I have a high threshold for alcohol?? But yet it was too sweet in my opinion.

I think Drips pastries are alright, and perhaps other varieties would stand out such as the chocolate ones. I would try those out next time since the place is just a stone's throw away haha

The title of the review seems kinda contradicting but aww sadly that is what I strongly feel after a visit to this much raved-about cafe. I would gladly return for their food but definitely not their coffee!! In fact, I would strongly recommend this place for dinner especially as its location at the Foothills makes the place a great chill-out place with all the greenery around.

Went on a hot Saturday afternoon, that was the first mistake. The seatings here are mostly alfresco with limited indoor seats. So I could really feel the warmth and humidity around but not to the extent that I was sweating away. Okay, second mistake, I did not make a reservation. It could have been a long wait but thank God, it was only me and my friend so we were given a table for two persons provided we leave within an hour before the party who had reserved it turned up.

Third mistake, I should not have ordered their coffee. I had the worst cappuccino I ever had (even the mediocre Starbucks can afford to serve even better coffee) while my friend was also unfortunate enough to have his worst Iced Long Black ever. However, on the other hand, having said all the above (perhaps it might have sounded a bit harsh mad), I think their food was quite fabulous hehe smile
Egg Benedict

Egg Benedict

Had the Egg Benedict ($11) and it was really good! The poached eggs were done just nice like the way it should be. I was pretty impressed at how round the eggs looked haha.. I don't remember eating Egg Benedict of which its shape could stay so round and formed lol

Did not stay for their cakes but heard it was really not bad,, but I honestly perhaps the pricing for the cakes is a bit at the steep side ><

Conclusion: Food is good, slightly pricey though. Go in the evening if you could not stand hot humid weather like me. And forget about their coffee indeed sad
