This outlet at Ang Mo Kio always has long queues and you have to be prepared to wait - for at least 15 minutes or more.On that day, though, we waited just five minutes.
The ambience of this restaurant is very rustic and gives one the impression that they have travelled back to the good old days - years ago!
The waitresses are aptly dressed in authentic Chinese outfits while the tables and chairs are made of wood. Actually there are more benches than there are chairs!
Even the menu is printed on paper that looks really ancient!'
Of course, one is jolted back to the present when the food arrives!
The Sharks Fin soup with Crabmeat was our starter - full of richness and sumptuous indeed! It was thick and delicious and full of flavour! It didnt really need any flavourings, such as pepper and vinegar - it was so good on its own!
Next came the Fried Bee Hoon. Though it looked light, it had been fried with some special sauce that gave it so much of rich taste - a true stealer!
For vegetables, we had the Celery with Snow Peas and Cuttlefish.
Every part of this dish was worth savouring - especially the cuttlefish!
In addition we also had the Egg omelette - packed with chives and prawns.
All these wonderful dishes went well with the free flow of Chinese Tea.
The service is fast and the food arrives pretty quickly as well.
Will definitely go back for more...

A great place to relax, especially with their signature menu item -
Crispy Chicken Drumlets and Wings.
The chicken is coated with a secret batter and fried to perfection.
It is especially crispy and goes well with the Spicy dip provided.
Fantastic ambience and service.
Also tried the Grilled Lamb Chops, but the Chicken beats everything else- perfect!!

Breakfast - for a change! Smile Jun 29, 2011

It was a sleepy Sunday morning as we made our way to NEX - the new shopping mall in Serangoon. We were looking for a cosy place for breakfast when we chanced upon the Swensen's outlet, that was open and serving breakfast till 11am.
We decided to give it a try and didn't regret it at all.
The breakfast menu was loaded with goodies and there was a special section for the kids as well.
We tried the Pancakes set, Breakfast special set, and kids meals - for the kids.
The Pancakes Set was simply superb - with the scrambled eggs, cheesy sausages and creamy mushrooms. The mushrooms were especially delicious - with their creamy flavour.
The Special Breakfast set had french toast, eggs, herb sausages and mushrooms.
It was good to taste French Toast after a long time.
We seldom have a proper breakfast like this nowadays with our hectic schedules, so this was a welcome change indeed.
The kIds meals arrived in kiddy plates and even the hash browns - with the sun. moon and stars - were customised to delight the kids.
Every adults meal set came with Coffee or Tea and a juice.
The prices were really reasonable , considering the amount of food and variety in each meal set.
It was a hearty breakfast and we felt gorged when we left, so we had to skip lunch!!

Serangoon Garden now has a new addition - My Village - and Wang Cafe is one of the cosy cafes found here.
We tried the Mee Siam and Laksa.
Both were appetisng - the gravies of both were rich and had lingering tastes; and they had
a variety of ingredients in them.
However, the portions were small.
We had Home made lime juice - this was refreshing!
A simple cafe, but loaded with lots of local favourites!
Will definitely go back for breakfast and coffee soon...

Categories : Hainanese | Chicken Rice

Pow Sing is very popular for its Hainanese Chicken rice because the roast chicken is specially cooked - using a secret recipe - and tastes absolutely delicious.
To me Pow Sing chicken is the Local equivalent of KFC!!
Wanted to try the Chicken Noodles - with their signature roast chicken - and I didn't regret my choice.
The chicken slices were juicy and succulent.
The dish came with healthy Chicken soup.
We also had their signature Lime Juice - that went well with the meal.
The mixed vegetables with mushroom was very nutritious and tasty, especially because it had a generous amount of celery. The crunchy celery and soft mushroom gave the dish an added difference to its taste.
The service was quick and you can make special requests, which will be accommodated to, as much as possible.
I will definitely be back for more Noodles.
