Ghee Roast Dosa OK Dec 21, 2013

I was exploring the newly-opened Westgate and I decide to have lunch at Food Republic which is located at the basement floor. Anyway I was wandering around thinking of what to order and decided to get the Ghee Roast Dosa ($5.50). To try something different besides the usual Korean, Japanese, Western or Chinese cuisine.

I waited for like more than 10 minutes. I think cause the dosa needs preparation as it's cooked on the spot. Anyway the end result is quite lovely. A dosa shaped like a prism.

The dosa is quite crispy and easy to peel off in thin strips. Initially you wouldn't notice it but after a while the fermented flavour aftertaste can be a little overwhelming. So i think it's best to share it with someone unless you really like dosas. The serving size in itself is also quite big. If you eat with your hands, its very likely they will become oily at the end of it too. They came with 4 different side dishes which gives one plenty of dipping choices to choose from. I like the last two on the right side.

Turkey Bacon Cheesy Crumble OK Dec 21, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Italian | Pasta | Halal

I had lunch with a friend at Pastamania today as i was determined not to get any fast food. I was also attracted to their wide range of pastas at affordable prices.

I got the Turkey Bacon Cheesy Crumble ($8.30) and a set (+ $4.10). The set comes with drinks and garlic bread. One orders and make payment at the counter. The interior of the restaurant is designed to look like an alfresco dining area coupled with street lamps. There is ample space to move about although i had to get up and push my chair in to let some delivery men past with their goods.

Personally, i find the Turkey Bacon Cheesy Crumble didn't taste that fantastic. Even with the bacon and cheese crumbles (which was quite yummy), it didn't have a distinct taste. Just the slightest of cheese. sad I had try to get every bite with the crumble or bacon so its not so "bland". The good thing is the portion is a bit big. Anyway i think taste is subjective cause my friend thought it was nice. The irony.

They gave quite a lot of garlic bread, like 3 pieces per person. I like it cause its heavily seasoned. lol

Leek and Egg Pancake OK Dec 17, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Dim Sum

This stall sells pancakes and baos. I wanted to try the Spring Onion pancake. However when i ordered, the staffs told me that they are in the midst of cooking it. They asked me to get the Leek and Egg pancake first.

The Leek and Egg pancake ($1+), is quite value for money cause its cheap and yet the portion is like quite big. Imagine the size of your palm but bigger. I can taste the leek but not so much of the egg. The pancake is also a tad too oily and the batter is quite thick. So depending on your preference, you may like it or not.

Fried Nian Gao OK Dec 17, 2013   (Related Review)

I heard about the fried durian fritters from this stall in Tangs Market but I am not very keen on durian so i decided to try their fried nian gao.

As you can see, the shop boasts a wide variety of fried finger food. So take your pick! I choose the fried nian gao as it seems like their signature item.

Though its not too oily, i find eating this a bit of a mouthful. The layers were a little thick, especially the centre layer, the sticky rice cake. It would have been better if the portion is thinner and one would be able to relish eating the 3 layers in one bite.

Char Kuey Tiao OK Dec 17, 2013

My friends and i had lunch at Tangs Market which only opened recently along with shops like Krispy Kreme.

If i am not wrong, most of the stalls are actually from Malaysia and brought to Singapore for their authentic cuisine.

Much as I like to say its a nicely cooked plate of char kuay tiao, its quite disappointing that for a $5 plate of noodles, it didnt taste that fantastic. Other than the beansprouts and the slight hint of seasoning, i didn't taste anything else.
