Overcooked Yong Tau Foo OK Dec 16, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Food Court

Had lunch and got Yong Tau Foo with curry soup and rice. Total $3.50. The ingredients i picked are mainly hot dog, fish cake, wanton skin, you tiao and others. I also got the salted egg cause i love them so much and apparently only this Yong Tau Foo stall has them. The other canteen in stall doesn't serve salted egg at all. sad

Anyway from the lower left of the picture above, you can ser that some of the ingredients are overcooked. Instead of golden brown they hover more towards the dark brown nature shocked. Anyway luckily its not chao ta (burnt) or else its really inedible. The salted egg yolk like abit chewy which is not what i am used to eating.

The curry is awesome. Made up for the other imperfections of the yong tau foo. The stall also has maggie noodles as one of the alternatives. I am so going to try it next time!

Guilt free soy bean ice cream OK Dec 14, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean Chinese

Decided to get some ice cream and drinks from Mr Bean after work. Got the ice cream ($1.90) and Pearly Bandung drink ($2.20).

The soy bean based ice cream is really nice, with the soy bean taste you usually get from their soy bean milk. Not too sweet too so its good for people who cannot take sweet treats.
(P.s - pardon the not too photogenic photo. The staff give me the cup of ice cream with the lidtongue)

I also ordered the Pearly Bandung but without pearls (ironic right). Lets just say unless you are really the adventurous type, just go for the normal soy bean milk. The Pearly Bandung have the slightest hint of bandung and soy bean. Very unique. But it does sports the bandung drink colour.

Eat at Taipei OK Dec 13, 2013
Categories : Taiwanese

For people who wish they were in Taiwan should head to Eat @ Taipei for some Taiwanese cuisine and vibe.

The restaurant at Jcube boost some pretty decent decor with wooden chairs and oriental lightings. Their tables are also decorated with a map of the Taipei metro system.

Anyway when you are having Taiwanese food, its only right if one orders milk tea! Its quite interesting that the milk tea is served in a plastic cup, unlike the usual glasses or mugs restaurants use. Exudes the Taiwan street feel. tongue

I always think of crispy chicken when Taiwan comes to mind. The chicken is o-k. But could have been more flavorful in my opinion.
Fried Fish Fillet with Egg and Tomato ($16.50)

Fried Fish Fillet with Egg and Tomato ($16.50)

Had the Fried Fish Fillet with Egg and Tomato bento set. They didn't offer much choices for the bento so i ended up getting that though its with tomato sauce. Still it's still quite palatable. Though quite expensive if you compare it with their other items.

The food and drinks are okay~, but doesn't really warrant a second visit unless i am really craving for some TW food and this is the nearest restaurant.

So-so Korean BBQ OK Dec 07, 2013
Categories : Korean | Hotel | Buffet | Korean BBQ

My sisters and i head to this korean bbq restaurant after doing some research online on the plausible places to go.

We headed there on a saturday afternoon and the place was still relatively empty. We chose our seats and went to get our food.

They do offer a decent selection but i think as we were there quite early, they are still setting up their food items. They offer a mix of cooked and uncooked food so if you are hungry while barbequeing, there is always something for you to eat.

Overall i don't think i will return because its quite out of the way, quite a distance from Outram MRT, and lets say there are other better korean bbq restaurants one can dine at.

Spending per head: Approximately $32(Lunch)

Fancy spaghetti in a food court OK Dec 07, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Italian | Middle Eastern/Mediterranean | European | Fusion | Food Court | Pasta

While out buying dinner, i decided to try the spaghetti from Play Kitchen, which is co founded by Ben Yeo (the actor-host).

I got the Sambal Belachan Grilled Fish with Aglio Olio Spaghetti ($8.90, with additionally $0.30 for takeaway).

Anyway they have this fancy box for takeaways. As you can see, they were quite generous giving two slices of grilled fish at the side. Frankly speaking i had high expectations but the fish wasn't that nice and it was quite hard. Both the fish and the spaghetti are quite dry. The sambal belachan is also placed at the side but i am sure if you eat there, its placed atop the fish.

I had say i would give this stall another chance and try their carbonara spaghetti next time but definitely avoiding their aglio olio.
