Tasty enchiladas! OK Nov 25, 2013

Categories : Restaurant | Kids-Friendly

Was out with my mum and I decided to head to Fig & Olive for lunch. It was my first time and so I didn’t have much expectations of the restaurant.
Chicken Enchiladas

Chicken Enchiladas

We ordered the Aglio Olio pasta ($9.80) and Chicken Enchiladas ($12.50). I tried the latter and normally I am not a big fan of tortilla bread but the chicken inside paired well with the tortilla bread. The bread is not too dense, and provided a bit of crisp at the sides. Besides the meat inside, there was some cucumbers and carrots that lent some crunch to the combination. Perfect!

On the other hand the pasta was quite normal. Spaghetti tossed with garlic, olive oil, mushroom and bell pepper. Nothing stood out particularly well about this dish.

Overall I enjoyed the food and would definitely return for more!

Had lunch with my colleagues today and we headed to Greenview Café at Far East Plaza. One of our fave places to go for lunch as it serves affordable food. (Another alternative for people working around the Orchard area)
Indonesian Fried Rice

Indonesian Fried Rice

Whenever I lunch there I would get the fried char kuay teow but this time I opted for something different, choosing to try their Indonesian fried rice ($4.50). It comes with a fried egg and fried crackers among other things. I like the rice for it does taste spicy and there was a lot of prawn bits in the fried rice as well. However after a while you will find that the rice does taste a little bit too salty thus making it quite hard to finish. Still it’s a big portion in my opinion. Can definitely fill one up easily.

My colleague bought the fried nian gao and yam cake also which were good. If you happen to drop by, they are the must-trys. I saw several people buying the yam cake itself. The sauces that comes with the yam cake makes it nice as well.

Feast like Kings and Queens! OK Nov 25, 2013

Categories : American | Steaks and Grills

One day my friend brought me to The King Louis Grill and Bar. We were quite early, slightly before 7 and so the restaurant hasn’t fill up yet. As a result we also got to choose where we want to sit. We opted for a sofa seats next to a window where one can see Universal Studios in the distance.

Happy Hour

Happy Hour

We didn’t have to wait long for the food to arrive (we waited for approximately 10-15 minutes). In addition, we also ordered as there was a Happy Hour Promotion (3 bottles for $21).
Knight Gawain (Meat) - Roasted beef with black pepper sauce, marinated boneless chicken leg with onion sauce, grilled chix breast with mixed berry compote and grilled porkloin with mushroom sauce

When the platter of meat arrived, I was quite flabbergasted as it was a lot of meat. Still. Besides the assortment of meat served (there was chicken, beef and pork), there were salad, green apples and roasted potatoes. I think it’s good that they provide some vegetables and fruits as it lent some other texture to the meat. Else one would get really bored eating all these meat after a while (in my opinion).

As one would have guessed, the portion was too much for 2 girls to share and stopped, leaving one-quarter of the meat and other sides. My friend managed to clear everything but we took really look to finish. I think we dined for 2 hours straight.

I love the interior of the restaurant with some Knight statues standing around and the main colours (black and gold) dominated the restaurant. When it turned dark outside, the night view is fantastic (pity I hadn’t taken any pictures). There was also live music in the restaurant where one could dedicate songs!

It was quite expensive dining there but considered the amount of meat served (best to share with 3 people or more), it was actually quite reasonable coupled with the ambience.

Affordable Seafood OK Nov 25, 2013

Went to MFM for dinner with a group of friends! I ordered Dory Fish and Chips set meal (lite version). The fish was crispy and soft on the inside. It was easy to tear the fish meat into bite sized portions although I do have a little difficulty dipping it into the tartar sauce. As a result I just smeared the sauce on the fillet before eating.

The set meal comes with a soup of the day and choice of drink. Today’s soup of the day was mushroom soup. It didn’t disappoint though it reminds me of the mushroom soup from another restaurant and so it didn’t impress either. There was nothing to differentiate it from other restaurants.

The food is served pretty quick which is pleasant.

Roti Prata OK Nov 20, 2013

Categories : Indian | Food Court

I had lunch again at the North Canteen again. The Indidan Food stall has changed hands over the course of my school years and finally I got to try the food made by a different stallholder.

Roti Prata - Cheese and Plain

Roti Prata - Cheese and Plain

I ordered cheese and plain prata. Contrary to what I have heard, I think the pratas are quite nice. They are toasty and crispy. I also love the chicken curry with a little bit of spiciness.

This is my first time eating cheese prata so I didn't know what to expect. There wasn't much cheese bits which is fortunate because the cheese is slighly overpowering. It's an unusual combination and I think I would return to eat the kosong prata but not the cheese prata.
