Cafe in NUS OK Nov 18, 2013

Reedz Cafe is like most cafes in tertiary institutions. It caters to 2 types of crowd, the chillax-ing (chill and relax) ones and also people who are dining in. That said, they have cushion chairs with coffee tables as well as the standard tables and chairs for the dine-in crowd.

Chicken Carbonara and Hazelnut Coffee

On my last visit to Reedz Cafe, i ordered the Chicken Carbonara and Hazelnut Coffee. For the latter, I could hardly taste the hazelnut. It was as if I had ordered coffee. As for the pasta, it has a nice serving but it wasn't as creamy as I had liked it to be! sad Quite bland in my opinion.

Overall I had visit again because the food is served at reasonable prices, and they have some interesting items on their menu such as Tomyum seafood crepe. It also features a nice and cozy environment to chill out with friends.

Whenever I frequent 5 Little Bears, i would usually go for the braised pork belly rice. Its partly because it is reasonably cheap (set meal at $5.90 with drink of your choice).
Braised Pork Belly Rice

Braised Pork Belly Rice

The braised pork belly rice comes with some vegetables at the side, one-half of a braised egg and of course a generous heaping of braised pork belly bits.

When you mix all the ingredients together, the general consistency of the rice becomes quite sticky and sometimes you feel like you are just eating rice itself. Its like the pork belly bits are barely there. Still its a good deal which fills one's belly!

Luckily, 5 Little Bears added more variety to their set meals and thus giving patrons more options.lol

Spending per head: Approximately $6(Lunch)

Beautifully plated desserts OK Nov 18, 2013

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Restaurant

My friends and I went for dinner around Bugis Junction and we decided to head to TCC for some desserts.
Original Marble Cheesecake

Original Marble Cheesecake

I am a fan of cheesecake so i ordered the Original Marble Cheesecake. The cheesecake had a layer of chocolate underneath it, much like a marble cake but separated into two layers. Still i find that the cheesecake doesn't have a very strong presence so i was kind of disappointed

Perfect Pairing

Perfect Pairing

My friends ordered Zestiny and Perfect Pairing. I like how the cakes are beautifully plated with syrup. It sure adds to the aesthetic appeal of the cakes.

Perfect Pairig is topped with berries (raspberries, blueberries and strawberries) and it adds to the flavour of the dessert. This is because i find that the white portion reminds me of ice cream with its cold and soft consistency so the fruits on top and around it makes it more flavourful.

Next is Zestiny, decorated with meringue pipings and sticks. This too is topped with raspberries and the cake has a light tinge of lemon to it. Refreshing.

Most of the seats in the cafe consist of couches and cushion chairs so it makes for a nice hang out spot with family and frees.

The desserts cost between $6.50-$10 (not yet inclusive of GST and 7% Service charge).

Bibimbap! OK Nov 18, 2013

My sister and I were on a mission and went on a food tasting session at Bibigo during our last visit to Raffles City.

We were solely there to try their bibimbap ($15). There is quite a lot of flexibility given to customers as you can choose what rice (there's white rice, black rice, mix of barley and white rice or brown and white rice), topping (char-grilled bulgogi, chicken teriyaki/breast, grilled spicy pork and tofu) and the sauce (kohot, citron soy, sesame, and ssam) you want to go with your bibimbap.

I was hesitating between the different toppings because I was really spoilt for choice between char-grilled bulgogi, chicken teriyaki and grilled spicy pork. They all appeal to me! But I ended up getting the grilled spicy pork. (See picture above.)

I also went for the kohot sauce (i am not sure what it is but it sounded spicy so i went for it) and white rice.

The end result is this:
All mixed up!

All mixed up!

The whole meal is really filling with the soup and side dishes (nothing worth mentioning). I did not regret getting the grilled spicy pork as they were really nice and did not disappoint. Spicy. lol Despite the outward appearance, with the exception of the meat, the sauce was not as spicy as I had assumed it to be. Still the end result looks appealing.

However I do think it is slightly on the high side because there wasn't a lot of meat given in the dish. Still, I had come back for the hot-stone bibimbap ($16). Looks delish when I saw the other patrons digging into their food!

Spending per head: Approximately $17(Lunch)

Chocolate Awfully OK Nov 18, 2013

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes | Ice Cream and Gelato

I am a big fan of desserts and so I have been waiting to try the sweet treats at Awfully Chocolate (especially their chocolates) for a very long time.

My wish was granted and one day while I passed by the AC outlet, I decided to get the Cold Poached Chocolate ($6) and the White Chocolate Creme Brulee Tart ($7).

Cold Poached Chocolate

When you order this, you can actually choose if you want it with or without the whipped cream. As I am not a BIG fan of dark chocolate, i decided to get it with the cream and I am so happy I did. The dark chocolate proved to be indeed quite bitter and the cream helped to ease some of the bitterness. However, I really liked the texture of the chocolate as it was very smooth and creamy.

Next, the creme brulee tart proved to be tooooooooo sweet for my taste buds. As a result it also became too cloying to finish the entire tart.

Still I would want to their chocolate truffles some day and perhaps their chocolate ice cream!
