Mee Siam Smile Dec 31, 2013

Coffee Kaki is a hot spot for people looking to get some coffee and local delights. My favourite would be the mee siam which is not too spicy (own opinion) and i really love the generous servings, with the eggs and other ingredients. The gravy is also quite thick and i love it that way. Yummlicious!

Max Brenner is the place to go for chocolate lovers. Even if you are not a chocolate lover, it is a great place to chill and unwind with its cosy atmosphere coupled with dim lights. Located at the Esplanade, it does have a classy feel to it.

Anyway I happen to be in the vicinity and decided to pop by with a group of colleagues. We ordered a couple of desserts and they proved to be meant for sharing with its not-too-small portions. It is best to share too cause if not the chocolate may prove too overwhelming to finish alone. It is not too sweet too which is good for people who do not have a sweet tooth.

Onigiri Smile Dec 31, 2013   (Related Review)

At Kuriya's, there have a small stall just behind the cashiering area which sells onigiris and other food (like Lok Lok).

My sisters and I often buy the onigiris here as they are quite flavourful and inexpensive. I got a Noritama Onigiri ($1.20) which is essentially egg and seaweed onigiri. These are actually quite easy to prepare at home too but i fancy the shape of the onigiri and it is easy to eat on the go. Quite salty and the rice feels as if it has been seasoned with the flakes even though it is only at the outer layer.

Pastries Smile Dec 31, 2013

Tong Heng is one of my favorite shops to get some decent pastries. They sell a delectable range of pastries and confectioneries.

I often get their diamond-shaped Egg Tarts and Barbequed Pork Crisps. The pastry skin for the egg tart is soft and flaky and coupled with the smooth custard. The barbequed pork crisp is also another crumbly pastry filled with bbq pork meat. I like the crumbly texture with the pork.

Both desserts are not too sweet and it definitely a favourite among the young and old.

Tops Curry Puff Smile Dec 31, 2013

Tip Top serves curry puff, sardine puffs and also a limited variety of fried finger food as well as bee hoon. I happen to pass by this stall and decide to get their Curry Puff ($1.30).

Tip Top’s version of this popular Singaporean snack is a little different with a thicker and crumbly skin as well as spicier fillings. The pastry skin is also quite fragrant but I think I prefer it to be a little bit thinner. But it made up for it with its spicy fillings. Though I did not eat the curry puff straight away, it still smells good after a few hours.
