Cheap & Delicious Thai Food! Smile Nov 17, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Thai

Because their food is cheap and delicious, it wasn't a surprise that their restaurant was full house with a queue on a weekday night. Even after getting a table, we still had to wait around 45 minutes for our food! Luckily we weren't too hungry and the cheap yummy food made up for it in the end.

Kangkong

Kangkong

A simple unassuming dish of Kangkong. I ordered the non-spicy version and was expecting something bland, but that wasn't the case! I'm not sure what they added (I'm guessing there's oyster sauce) but somehow it was simple yet really yummy.

Chicken Basil

Chicken Basil

Stir-fried chicken with basil, this was really yummy too!

Tomyam Seafood Soup

Tomyam Seafood Soup

The tomyam soup was a little creamy, not sure if they added any milk or cream but it was quite nice. Very fragrant too, just too bad that it had loads of mushroom and two prawns even though it was supposed to be tomyam seafood soup.

On the whole it was a very good meal, will definitely be returning for more cheap yummy Thai food!

Simple and good food Smile Mar 30, 2014

Categories : Food Court

I was at Food Republic having chicken rice for dinner one day when I saw 2 men sitting beside us with their plates of bee hoon and fried food. They were simple food and dishes but somehow looked so tempting, hence I told myself I had to come back soom to try out the food from this stall lol

I came back for lunch another day and picked out which ever took my fancy. I chose to have the century egg, taiwan sausage and fried prawn. For the taiwan sausage and fried prawn, the cook deep-fried them in the hot oil for a few seconds before serving, so that what you get is nice, hot and crispy. I was afraid that the beehoon wouldn't be sufficient hence I got the bigger serving, which turned out to be a bit too much for me. The food was pretty good in general, and I'd definitely be back should the craving strike! smile

Yummy Soft Shell Crab Noodle! Smile Mar 30, 2014

I've had their beef noodles before which were great. Though I wanted to order it again, I was tempted to try the Rice Vermicelli with Deep-Fried Soft Shell Crab. I was really glad it turned out equally yummy!

Rice Vermicelli with Deep-Fried Soft Shell Crab

This noodle dish is a dry one, with a thin sauce served on the side for you to pour in and mix with the noodles. The portion of the sauce was just right to ensure that all then noodles were nicely coated in the it. The sauce was light, with subtle sweetness and savouriness. I really liked it! Their rice vermicelli is slightly thicker than the thin bee hoon you normally have, and they were really nice and smooth. There were also shredded omelette, sliced cucumbers and pickled veg like carrots and radish, which added a nice crunch to the dish. The 2 deep fried soft shell crabs which were halved were good too, meaty and not really oily. I really loved how everything went really well together and I'll be coming back to order this dish again! smile

Oyster Mee Sua Smile Feb 19, 2014

Categories : Taiwanese

When you order their oyster mee sua, they will ask if you want to have all the ingredients added inside, which are oysters (3 of them), shredded chicken, vinegar, coriander and chilli paste. They also have another option, pork rib mee sua, and also a variety of combo sets for $7.30 which consists of mee sua and fried chicken/calamri/sweet potato fries etc. You can also add a drink to the combo set for $8.

Oyster Mee Sua $4
The oysters were not bad, big and didn't have the fishy taste. Texture of the mee sua was also good, nice and soft but not soggy and overly soft. Would definitely buy it again if I'm looking for a light and easy to eat meal.

So-so Steamboat OK Feb 06, 2014
Categories : Steamboat/Hot Pot

I’ve heard about JPOT and how some people rave about their Silky Porridge Soup Base hence I was really happy to find out that we were going there for our CNY lunch.

My colleagues ordered the set for us to share: $138++ for 4 pax. I was quite surprised to find out that the steamboat is actually a personal pot. I chose the Silky Porridge Soup Base since I’ve heard good reviews about it and other places don’t offer this. It wasn’t porridge per se, meaning there weren’t any grains in it. Instead it was more like a slightly starchy rice water (trust me it’s not as gross as it sounds) which was not bad. There was already some taste and flavour before I added in any ingredients.

Seafood Platter
This platter was huge! It consisted of live prawns, sliced fish, scallop, handmade prawn ball and fish ball, sea clam, shrimp dumplings, siew mai, tau pok with fish paste, red chilli with fish paste and fish paste tofu. Overall I did not enjoy most of the things here especially the yong tau fu, siew mai and dumplings etc which were soso/not very nice. I liked the fish and scallops though, and the handmade prawn ball was really good. You could still see small chunks of prawns in the prawn ball.

Beef Short Rib and Kurobuta Pork
There were a few choices of meat to choose from – Beef Short Rib, Kurobuta Pork, Pork Loin, Chicken, Marinated Beef, Marinated Pork and Marinated Chicken. We chose the first 2. The Meat were not bad but I’ve had better ones elsewhere.

Platter of Homemade Spinach Skin Beancurd, Fried Beancurd Skin, Fried Fish Skin and Fried Wanton
I liked everything in this platter! Everything was crisp and nicely fried and not oily at all. I placed some of the fried fish skin into my silky porridge and it was quite nice! The fish skin was really crispy so even though I placed it in the porridge for about a min, it did not turn soggy at all.

In the set there was also Spinach, Tang-O and Enoki Mushroom included. For the carbs you could choose 2 items from either rice, Laksa noodle, vermicelli, instant noodle and pho/thin hor fun.

It worked out to be about $40/pax and for this price and quality I really think that it’s not worth it (don’t forget this is a set so you may not necessarily like all the items included). I ordered ala carte at Crystal Jade Steamboat (Zhongshan Mall) and really enjoyed all the food and spent only $32/pax.
