Gyoza-Ya is a new 50-seat Japanese restaurant that specializes gyoza or Japanese style dumplings under Japanese restaurant chain Akashi. You can choose either pan-fried or boiled gyoza served with a special sauce, each serving at $4.80 for five pcs. Previously was 6 pcs. There are 2 kinds of filling, pork and vegetable. The other highlight beside gyozas include Jyajya Men ($6.50) which is served with minced pork in miso based. Quite similar to Chinese dish, zhajiang mian. There are steps to follow to enjoy the best taste of Japanese's style Jyajya men. Personally, it was nothing fantastic. It wasn't flavorful enough for my liking.

The price at Gyoza-Ya are pretty much affordable. We decided to try the pan-fried dumplings for both filling as we wanted to compare it to Keisuke Gyoza King & Osaka Ohsho. Though the gyozas here were the best among the rest whereas I like the side dishes offered at Keisuke Gyoza King. Anyway, all the gyoza are undoubtedly delicious. On a gyoza hunt!

Huge variety of food to pick from Smile Jan 04, 2014

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Hotel | Seafood | Buffet

It has always been one of the buffet restaurants I wanted to check out. Even though the buffet isn't exactly affordable, The Line remains as one of Singapore's favourite destinations for buffet lunch and dinner. Started off w chilled fresh prawns, mussels, clams, crabs & very fresh oysters where they open e shell right in front of you. Besides the seafood spread, the Japanese counter is the next most popular counter in The Line. Fresh! I'm impressed by the spread of selections, Sushi, Maki, cha soba, sashimi, tuna sashimi, tempura - you name it. Overall, all of them tasted really good.

I must say The Line has pretty impressive array of desserts lined up and it definitely satisfy a sweet tooth person like myself - worthy bites such as Lemon Meringue Tart, Creme Brulee & Carrot Cake. I must say this is one of the best desserts lined up I ever had in a buffet.

From fruits, warm desserts and a variety of ice creams and toppings to pick from. They've a very wide selection in their buffet lines for an international buffet. There's definitely plenty of choices for everyone to choose from - from your local dishes to fresh seafood, Japanese delight, dim sum, Indian cuisine, western dishes, local kuehs and very delicate desserts. I can't find any reason not to come back to The Line again. Read more on my trip to the line at, http://jacqsowhat.blogspot.sg/2014/01/the-line-buffet-shangri-la-hotel.html

Nydc Christmas Special 2013 Smile Dec 16, 2013

Categories : American | Pasta | Steaks and Grills | Kids-Friendly

We attended the Xmas party at nydc hosted by food blogger, ladyironchef and sponsored by nydc. We get to sampled 10 festive dishes nydc has specially came up with for this year's Christmas.

Here are some of the highlights of the dishes we had at nydc's Christmas party. One of the festive beverages we had, Gingy's Butter Rum Bath Elephanccino ($8.80) It's warm chocolate w ginger bread cookie dipped. Sweet! We started off with Elves' Salmon Logs and Elves' Mini Meat Munchies, $9.80 each. The crepe is stuffed with Smoked salmon and cream cheese filling, while the meat munchies is served on toast topped w jam on the top. Very good combination and love it!

Main courses - We were given to choose from Santa's Wagyu Steak Frites ($28.80), Merry Merry Mixed Grill ($26.80) or Traditional Cornish Hen ($16.80). We tried the Merry Merry Mixed Grill and Wagyu Steak which is our favorite. Steak grilled to perfection with the pink meat within, tender and juicy! And it satisfy a steak lover like myself. Nydc is famous for their desserts and mud pies. And for this year's Christmas, nydc has specially came up with Tutti Frutti Mudpie ($11.80). It's really good, must try! Thank you Brad for having us!

Chocolate fix! Smile Dec 11, 2013
Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

You may have already heard of Wimbly Lu, which is a little cafe popular for its desserts and chocolates. Wimbly Lu is hidden in a private estate near Serangoon, 15 mins walk from Nex. I love the design and ambience of the place, it gave a cozy and homely vibe to the cafe. There were a huge selection of chocolate desserts to choose from. We were spoilt from choices.

There were the highly raved Root Beer Cake, which I feel it's something interesting but tasted average. Must try dishes are waffles, molten chocolate cake and sticky date pudding w caramel. I personally like all their chocolate cakes and it nv fails to satisfy a sweet tooth like myself. One of my favorite place I would go for a dessert fix!

Best table side view Smile Dec 09, 2013
Categories : Fusion | Seafood | Fine Dining

The first thing you stepped in, you’ll be snapping photos and wow-ing over the majestic ocean habitat view. The price may be steep as its minimum spending of $25 per pax - but it’s really worth what you’re paying for. We had a Cod Fillet ($46), Beef Rib ($48) and a glass of White Wine ($11). I can't remember the exact names for it but both dishes were really nicely done. The beef rib is really tender and juicy, it's so good for the portion is really small here so may not be satisfying enough! The cod fillet is fresh and succulent accompanied with a sauce (I can't figure out what sauce is it) that is really a well combination. No doubt. Everyone should visit here at least once!
