Nice ambience, and the nice elderly lady at the front pulled customers in politely, recommending the restaurant.

But other than the fact that the elderly lady at the front of the store is nice. there was nothing to delight in the service and food, I am sorry to concede that I had one of the worst experience. I visited just this afternoon for lunch – yes it was crowded, so I understand that we needed to share tables.

So 2 of us shared a table with another 2 female diners, and we placed orders. When we were waiting for our food, a waitress delivered to the table beside us – it was crowded with 5 Indian gentlemen so the waitress asked for help from her Chinese colleague to place the places on the table smoothly. In order to assist her colleague, the Chinese waitress actually tossed the dirty table cloth she was holding onto our table, without any apologies or warning! It landed perilously close to me – nearly landing on me.

While we were eating our mediocre, tasteless pho, the 2 ladies sitting beside us left. Another waitress and the Chinese colleague came over to clear – the Chinese colleague actually reached over us to try to wipe the table! Mercifully her colleague told her not to do that, since we were still eating.

For the $10.80 I paid for this meal, because it includes service charge, I think this is the worst place I have ever visited. Pity for the pretty cute ambience.

The signature red phone booth

The signature red phone booth

The black-and-white floors, distinctive red telephone booth, the signature Union Jack, famous Teddy and Mr. Bean's photos filled this cafe up and brought back fond memories when we were still watching Mr. Bean's comedy series. He was so funny, and oh, the cafe actually airs his shows on a TV screen located behind the counter.

Felt like drink foamed milk, that's all. Where is the tea?

The Tea Latte (SGD$6.20) came first. It was all teabag and milky foam; the taste of the "tea" was nowhere to be detected. The entire drink tasted like milk foam from start to finish; it got a little sick after a while, reminding me of drinking milk powder in my younger days. The only redeeming factor was the cute mug it was served in.
The cream was sour!

The cream was sour!

I also asked for a slice of Beantastic Mille Crepe Cake (SGD$8.80), simply because of the dazzling chocolate-rice coating and rainbow-coloured layers, looking so inviting. The texture of the mille-crepe was good - soft, melty, giving Lady M a run for her money. The aesthetics was so appealing, and flavours was good too, hints of sweetness and minty (I believe that came from the green layers), very refreshing.
However, amidst the luscious taste, there was a rather heavy sour taste. At first I thought it was the orange and yellow layers - citrusy, tarty, perhaps? Or could it be they were using yogurt cream? But as I took more bites, I realised it was not right - it was very likely that the light cream has turned sour - a very slight rancid hint.

Lunch at Wee Nam Kee Cry Aug 02, 2014
Categories : Hainanese | Restaurant | Chicken Rice

A pot of soup arrived first, followed by our chicken and bowls of rice. The dishes were simply plonked onto our round table and no one bothered to announce what the dish was. When the table was full (we ordered chicken, vegetables, braised eggs, some innards, rice and drinks), the sour-faced servers did not even bother to help rearrange dishes - they simply placed the additional items around whatever empty space they could see on our table (which also meant, at the edge by someone's elbow!)

The vegetables were either too old or overcooked - it was hard to chew and tough! The chicken was nothing to rave about as well (disappointingly) - lacking tenderness and smoothness, that we felt the other chicken rice houses (i,.e. competitors) did much better even at their hawker stall outlets.

Most importantly, the chicken rice itself did not posess the fragrant aroma of ginger-chicken broth at all. Granted, it was not very greasy, but the taste of a good bowl of chicken rice complements the chicken at times, especially when the chicken in question here was bland.
Four of us spent a total of SGD$66.00, and with such service and food standards, rest assured that it was the first and last visit from any of us. It was a disappointing meal, to say the least.

Lunch at Wee Nam Kee Cry Apr 20, 2014
Categories : Hainanese | Restaurant | Chicken Rice

For the first time in our lives, my family and I tried Wee Nam Kee with anticipation. We heard many raves about it since the days it was at Thomson / Novena Ville, before moving to United Square. We were early so there werent any queue. Five of us were ushered to a round table.

The service was utterly disappointing. The waitresses were loud and brusque, kept walking way before we even finished placing our orders. When the food came, they just plonked the food down without even announcing what item was being served, or helping to arrange / set it properly on the table. We ordered alot of items, hence the tabletop was filled with dishes naturally.

One of the items we ordered was unavailable that day, but the waitress at the chopper stand kept shouting out at us - how were we to know she was talking to us, and were we supposed to shout our replacement orders back in turn?

We ordered half a chicken (the oil chicken "you ji") - which was very average, not especially tender or tasty. The rice lacked fragrance of chicken rice (usually chicken rice has a distinctive ginger / garlic fragrance) and was soggy. The braised eggs and innards were bland and soggy too, and the vegetables ("you cai") was overcooked so a tad hard to chew.

On top of that, we found the food to be oily overall. This was the worst meal we've ever had, and we knew we would not be back for more. Food and service leave much to be desired. Note that so far I am very kind in all my food reviews because I am not a demanding or fussy person when it comes to my food; on the contrary I am rather easy to please when it comes to dining. Hence for me to pen this painful review, the standard was really mediocre and I could find no kind words for the incredibly lousy experience.

Dinner at Dean & Deluca Cry Feb 15, 2014
Categories : American | Café

deli-cafe situated conveniently in a grocer's / mart filled with rows of confectionaries like jam, mayonnaise,
honey, cheese, meats etc for purchase. After passing by rows of hampers and jars of marmalades and honey etc, we found a seat in the pretty little bakery cafe filled with happy looking diners chatting away.

We went to the bar counter and ordered our foods, excitedly awaiting their arrivals. Everything looked delicious, and we wondered how the food would turn out.

While Charliez* had her English Breakfast set and Mango Lassi drink (a yogurt drink originated from India). The platter did not look very appetising, truth be known... the sausages were a little over-grilled. Nonetheless, we decided to give it a try since it was filled up with sausages, scrambled eggs, mushrooms and toast. Taste was rather bland and the sausages were a tad salty. It was just a notch tasteless, falling short of a heary breakfast (albeit being consumed at night as dinner course).

I had a Salmon and Spinach Quiche - had loved the ones at Delifrance, so was wondering if this would turn out tasty too. This was a little bland as well; I could hardly taste the salmon flavor in the mashed up piece of overly-soft cheesey pie with no crispy crust. Yes, it was too soft and lightly-flavored, but the portion was generous. My Vegetable Juice (don't ask me what is inside, I cannot recall. Celery? Green apple?) had more flavours, no kidding.
