The apple of my eyes Smile Jan 15, 2014

I got a mini apple strudel ($4.5) takeaway from the shop. I had tried other types of strudel such as the mango strudel and strawberry strudel but apple strudel still remain my favourite!

The crust of the strudel is made up of multiple layers. The shiny appearance on the outer crust came from sugar glaze, which added a nice crunch and sweetness to it. In between the crust, there were sweetened apple cubes which gave a crunchy twist to the creamy custard.

I realise that for takeaway, you need to consume it as soon as possible in order to enjoy the crispy crust. If you left it from afternoon until night time, the crust might have already turned soft.

Love the crunchy bits! Smile Jan 15, 2014

I simply love the popiah ($1.2). After placing your order, you can watch your popiah get rolled up right before your eyes. The sweet sauce, chilli, mang kuang, tau ge, egg etc were being spreaded and drizzled over the popiah skin and rolled up in a swift and efficient manner. Can you see those crunchy bits in the popiah? It adds a whole lot difference to the texture of popiah! Texture-wise, you get the chewiness from the skin, juiciness from the mang kuang, and crunchiness from the tauge and also crunchy bits; flavor-wise, it is sweet from the sweet sauce, spicy from the chilli, salty from the crunchy bits, and you feel fresh from biting the crunchy tauge. Doesn't it just make you feel hungry again?

Chewy and sticky canele! Smile Jan 15, 2014

Categories : French | Japanese | Fusion | Bakery

Canele is a type of French pastry, characterised by its soft and tender custard filling and the dark, thick, caramelised crust. These mini caneles are rather small in size, you can even put the whole canele in your mouth! But beware, the crust was really sticky and chewy, you may have some caramelised sugar left on your teeth for quite a while!

These are the mini cheesecakes, taste pretty good too! The cheesecakes were baked, the texture was more cake-like rather than those melt-in-the-mouth type.

Stay Crisp Smile Jan 15, 2014

Categories : Desserts and Cakes

Jollybean sells two types of pancake, one type with thick and fluffy skin and another type with crispy skin. This one that I bought, is called 'stay crisp'. As the name suggests, this was a really crispy pancake! I am tempted to get it every time I passed by their stall. There are 2 flavors available: red bean and peanut.

Recommended Dish(es):  Pancake

Spending per head: Approximately $1(Tea)

Yummy and Affordable Western Food Smile Jan 15, 2014

I ordered Smoky Baby Back Rib ($37.9). The sweet and smoky ribs were beautifully done (not much charred part) and full of flavor. However, it still retain its firmness and not those falling-off-the-bone type of tenderness.

This is a medium done Ribeye ($31.9). Ribeye steaks are characterised by the rich marbling and hence are well known for their tenderness. Indeed, it's worth every penny!

And what's more, the main courses came with supreme salad buffet which includes fresh greens, hot & hearty side dishes, soups, fruits and dessert! You can eat to your heart's content!
