Thai food OK Mar 17, 2014

I used to frequent Siam Kitchen as there was one nearby my previous staying place. The last time I came, I felt that the quality had somehow deteriorated. I wasn't sure if it was a one-time event, so I decided to give it a try again.
Mix vegetable with tofu in signature sauce ($8.9)
If you are a tofu lover, you would agree that egg tofu is usually flavorful and silky soft, even though after fried. For this dish, the vegetable was fine but the tofu turned out mushy and bland. Understandably, we all took a bite and couldn't help but shaking our heads.

Hot and sour omelette curry with prawns ($10.9)
Have you ever had a food that looked so different yet tasted so familiar? It took me a while to realise that this curry tasted like my favorite penang laksa. An interesting twist on this dish was the omelette, it was stuffed with acacia pennata. I think this was the only dish I like at the table.

Stir-fried kai lan with salted fish ($8.9)
A simple green for some fiber.

BBQ stingray with Thai sambal ($14)
The stingray didn't taste fresh, and the meat was kind of tough and chewy, as some would say 'logo'. We were expecting those BBQ stingray in Chinese Tze Char style but this was nothing like it. The sambal tasted just like plain chilli, we couldn't taste any belacan, shallot or other ingredients that usually attributed to a BBQ style sambal. Another round of shaking heads again.

Celebrated birthday at Swensen's Smile Mar 17, 2014

We had our dinner at Swensen's celebrating EG's birthday.

Soup of the day
This was our soup of the day, it was a cheesy leek soup - a rather simple soup but tasted good.

Baked spaghetti bolognaise
Look at that three juicy chicken and beef meatballs sitting atop spaghetti! Meat ball lah, fish ball lah, I love them all.

Mega burger
The mega burger is indeed a gigantic burger! Sandwiched between the hamburger bread were layers of juicy beef patty, chicken ham, turkey bacon, grilled vegetables, onions, melted cheese, and a fried egg. Is your mouth wide enough to bite down the burger with all the ingredients inside?

Rodeo wings
Everyone loves rodeo wings. These were actually golden fried chicken wings tossed with sweet and sour BBQ sauce. The sour tang from the sauce is sure to whet your appetite. As I had guessed, the wings disappeared in an instant!

Chili fish pasta
Indulge yourself in these golden fried tender fish fillets. The skin was crispy yet not over fried. The spaghetti was tossed in spicy oriental sauce, which made this a fusion dish!

One for one deal Smile Mar 17, 2014

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Restaurant | Vegetarian | Chinese Soup | Western Soup | Halal

We were lucky, soup spoon was having a one for one deal when we passed by the restaurant! Happened that we wanted a light dinner, so here we go!

Soulful vegan chili was a spicy soup. The texture of the soup was light but full of flavor. It was vegan so there was no meat in it. However, the beans were enough to fill you up without making you feel guilty.

Irish beef with stout was thick and filling. There were generous portion of vegetables and beef cubes. The beef was marinated in stout and mushroom, and herbs were added to enhance the taste of the soup.

Breakfast at botanic garden Smile Mar 14, 2014

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes | Pasta | Burgers and Sandwiches | Kids-Friendly

Walking in the botanic garden at 9am, the first thing we were looking for was? Aha, it was breakfast!

This was the first restaurant we came across. If you are bringing kids and fancy a relaxing meal, you won't want to miss this. There is a playground for your kids to run wild while you are having your meal.

There is a small kids dining area too.

In fact, this restaurant has the most high chairs than any other restaurants that we have came across.

Mee Rebus and tea set ($6)
They seems to offer many tempting western breakfast, but DG was in the mood for Asian food. So we ordered this Mee Rebus for sharing. I only planned to have few bites but the gravy was really delicious. It was thick, the way I love it, and the tauge was barely cooked, giving a refreshing crunch to every bites. Two thumbs up!

Lor mee Smile Mar 14, 2014
Categories : Coffeeshop | Noodles

This was my lunch today! I bought it early on my way home and left it there for almost one hour before I ate it. I thought the noodle was going to be very soggy but surprisingly, it turned out well. The noodle was still chewy and the gravy was still thick and starchy. I asked for extra vinegar as I love it sour. It tasted fragrant with the minced garlic. The lor mee was served with fish cake, ngor hiang, pork slices, cut chilli etc.
