Red Velvet (Apologies for the blurry photo)

Red Velvet (Apologies for the blurry photo)

Yesterday was my third time trying out Krispy Kreme's doughnuts. I must say the only thing that's worth the visit to KK is their Original Glazed. My RV doughnut had a hole in it (minus points on the presentation already) and it's way too sweet and heavy. Plus, there's not evident RV taste. This tastes just like the Original Glazed, but two times sweeter. The RV was quite dense too. Might as well top up a few cents more and get a real RV from Twelve Cupcakes.

I've tried the one with OREO bits on it (am not too sure on the product name because my friend bought it for me) before and it tastes almost the same as the Red Velvet. Actually, in my opinion, I think their "speciality" donuts taste similar. All I got was that "typical donut taste".

All in all, I would rather go to a neighbourhood bakery shop and get my sugar donuts at almost half the price.

Very Affordable Sushi :-) Smile Mar 31, 2014

These amazing sushi from Junshin Express cost only 50 cents each! Quality wise, the sashimi was quite fresh! I like the salmon sashimi sushi the most out of the lot, followed by the prawn roe sushi. The otah sushi is a unique fusion, but it does not go well with the sushi rice.

Besides the mainstream sushi, they also sell fruit sushi, such as kiwi, strawberries and dragon fruit! If you're a die-hard sushi fan and you want sushi to end off your meal (aka desserts), look no further and have the fruit sushi! But if you're a purist, I suggest you to stick to the plain ol' good sushi.

If you're a "cupcake-holic", you may want to check out the sugary treats from Da Paolo!

The texture of the frosting of the above 2 cupcakes is similar and quite unique - a little "sticky", not so creamy and soft like the usual cupcake frosting. The flavour combination is quite unique, but I did not really like the Orange flavoured cupcake.

Meringue frosting on a cupcake? That unique differentiation from those mainstream cupcakes is definitely a plus point.
I like the lemon meringue cupcake, not too sweet nor sour, albeit a bit dry. But the overall taste made up for the shortcoming of the moistness of the cake.

Awesome Beef Noodles Smile Mar 27, 2014

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

HK Sheng Kee doesn't only do desserts; they whip up a great variety of HK savoury noodles and snacks!

Be sure to also order their Minced Pork Noodles (Dry) and Chicken Cutlet Noodles!
HK Braised Beef Noodles (Dry)

HK Braised Beef Noodles (Dry)

Everything is just so perfect about this bowl of Braised Beef Noodles. Noodles were springy, vegetables were fresh, radish so juicy and the beef is tender! The seasoning is on the spot and do remember to add in the green chilli and chilli oil when eating to spice up this already-good-on-its-own dish!
Durian Sago

Durian Sago

If you like durian, this is made for you! Real durian flesh was used in this dessert and the puree is just so creamy and heavenly.
Sesame Paste w/ Rice Balls

Sesame Paste w/ Rice Balls

If you prefer hot desserts, do opt for the Sesame Paste. This sesame paste is robust in flavour and is not diluted nor watery. Order the version with the rice balls in it for an extra treat (sesame rice balls + sesame paste = ultimate combo!)
Yolky Custard Pau

Yolky Custard Pau

Also remember to order the yummy Yolky Custard Pau. Be careful when you bite into this though, because the custard will flow out!!! Extremely sinful treat! Yolk and custard can never go wrong in this combination. If you think the combination is gross, then you're wrong! Eat this and you'll never regret it!

Waffles that makes you go 'Whoa'! Smile Mar 27, 2014

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

Hatter Street is a whimsical cafe located in a quiet HDB estate in Hougang. They have a variety of pastries and drinks to choose from, but my friend and I decided to share their signature 'Whoa'ffles ($8.90).

There are 3 variations, but we chose the Singapore-inspired flavour. Pandan ice cream drizzled with Gula Melaka. Sounds extremely sinful and delish!

This might be the best waffle I've ever had so far. The crispy waffles were pretzel-like salted, which balances out the sweetness of the Gula Melaka. The blueberries also helped to tone down on the sweetness. A plus point, because the waffles don't feel too rich or heavy to finish. The Pandan Ice Cream is heaven - reminds me of those old school pandan kueh. Very uniquely Singaporean; a very good fusion dessert! On the down side, the waffles weren't exactly hot when served.
