Guilt Free Vegetarian Food Smile Mar 24, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Vegetarian

Located in the second level of Fortune Centre is this mini cafe selling a variety of vegetarian dishes.

The ambience of the cafe gives me the "at home" feeling. However, the place was quite cramped and uncomfortable to dine in.

My friend and I ordered our food as the wait staff approached us. Immediately after that, we were served a complimentary bowl of soup. The soup is oil-less, with ingredients such as carrots, cabbage, red dates and bean sprouts. I like Chinese style soups, so I found the soup extremely comforting to drink, because it reminds me of the soups that my grandma would cook. The soup's natural sweetness comes from the ingredients, but it would taste even better with more seasoning.
Wanton Ipoh Horfun

Wanton Ipoh Horfun

Presenting to you, the Wanton Ipoh Horfun! Portion is really huge (I went for lunch with a growling stomach mad and was full by the time I completed 3/4 of the horfun). Before eating this, give it a good stir because the sauce is hidden in one of the corners so it will taste quite tasteless if you don't mix well. The whole time I was eating this, it reminds me of chee cheong fun. Not too sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I like the mushrooms, though. It was juicy. Not to mention, I like the spinach too. Tomatoes were fresh. The wanton wasn't particularly outstanding, and the filling was not exceptionally generous.
Organic Vegetable Sushi Roll

Organic Vegetable Sushi Roll

The highlight of the lunch would be the Organic Vegetable Sushi Roll. This dish is very healthy and if you are sticking onto a "no carbs diet", this sushi is perfect for you because it does not contain any sushi rice but it tastes like the real thing! The fresh vegetables used were very crunchy to the point that I find it "over crunchy" and got tired of chewing it. Haha! tongue

Fish 'N Chips at a Great Price! OK Mar 24, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American | Restaurant | Seafood

It's true when people say don't takeaway Fish 'N Chips. Just eat it straight at the restaurant. My Fish 'N Chips was soggy after 30 minutes.

There was a $3.99 promotion for one set of Fish 'N Chips, and each person is entitled to 2 sets maximum. I got one Fish 'N Chips & Grilled Glory Dory.
Fish 'N Chips

Fish 'N Chips

Fries and fish wasn't outstanding as it was soggy already. Only if I dined in at the restaurant, this might taste a lot better, with the fries and fish being hot and crispy. The accompanying tartar sauce was nice, though.
Grilled Glory Dory

Grilled Glory Dory

I prefered the Grilled Glory Dory better. The rice was very fragrant (the use of garlic) and fish wasn't too bad, albeit a little soggy too.

Coolest Old School Cafe in Town Smile Mar 24, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Desserts and Cakes

If you grew up in the 80's and would like to have a taste of the past to reminiscent, then you cannot give Dong Po Colonial Cafe a miss. The cafe sells a wide variety of impressive old school pastries that will "wow" people. Let me tell you why.
Butterfly Cupcake & Lamington

Butterfly Cupcake & Lamington

The cafe is popular for the butterfly cupcake - such an interesting shape, isn't it? Taste wise, it is not that impressive as compared to the other cakes. The Lamington with dessicated coconut on the other hand, fared better. It comes in 2 flavours, so pick your favourite!
Chocolate Sweetheart & Chocolate Butter Cream Cake

Chocolate Sweetheart & Chocolate Butter Cream Cake

Ah, chocolate cake! What's not to love? Both cakes were soft and moist, however, the Chocolate Sweetheart had a tad too much butter cream for my liking. Makes me feel very "guilty" after indulging in it. Haha! Get the Chocolate Butter Cream Cake slice instead. All chocolate, all perfection.
Hot Milo

Hot Milo

Hot Milo. Nothing outstanding. Nothing beats my Milo Kosong from Toast Box!
Chocolate Eclair & Three Hole Cookie

Chocolate Eclair & Three Hole Cookie

These 2 pastries are to die for. The portion of the Chocolate Eclair is considerably huge for its price of $1.90. Also, Dong Po is very generous with the cream filling within. The chocolate ganache was made from dark chocolate, which helps to tone down the sweetness from the chocolate cream filling. An eclair very well done! smile
Moving on to the Three Hole Cookie! If you like biscuits with a strong "buttery" taste, then yes, you MUST get the Three Hole Cookie! Crumbly and oh-so-delicious. The jam on the biscuit is a bonus treat too lol

Of course I will never leave the cafe without ta-pao-ing some of their famous pastries!
Chocolate Cupcake & Apple Aloe Vera Slice

Chocolate Cupcake & Apple Aloe Vera Slice

Presenting to you... The Chocolate Cupcake and Apple Aloe Vera Slice. Chocolate cupcake was delish, however the only imperfection is that I find the frosting-to-cake ratio a little off. Perhaps the cupcake could do with lesser frosting.
The Apple Aloe Vera Slice is perfect! Soft and moist cake with the correct amount of butter cream frosting and apple aloe vera jam. Worth a try, but not worth $2.20 per slice. It's too tiny for its price tag.
Almond Macaron Tart & Optical Case

Almond Macaron Tart & Optical Case

The above 2 pastries are the most disappointing. I disliked the too-strong almond taste that was present in the Almond Macaron Tart and the Optical Case was too dry. Kudos to the cute name, though. mad
Supplementary Information:
Do go early if you would like to dine-in, because the cafe is always packed!

Apple & Lemongrass Mojito

Apple & Lemongrass Mojito

The Apple & Lemongrass Mojito wasn't really pleasant to drink; didn't suit my palate.
Seafood Aglio Olio

Seafood Aglio Olio

The seafood aglio olio was delish! Portion wise, it's quite huge so it's recommended to share with 2 people if you're planning to order other dishes too. They were generous with the ingredients and the seafood was fresh! Spaghetti was al dente too. Quite impressed with this dish.
Truffle Fries

Truffle Fries

Truffle fries! One can never go wrong with truffle fries. Hot and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. The taste of the truffle oil was evident. This is a pretty good truffle fries, I must say.
Brownie w/ Vanilla Ice Cream

Brownie w/ Vanilla Ice Cream

The combination of brownie with vanilla ice cream is brilliant. The ice cream complements the brownie so well. Brownie was chocolaty enough for my liking and it's rich. The nuts on it added texture and crunch to the brownie.
This Prata Dessert is extremely sinful!

This Prata Dessert is extremely sinful!

Ultimate Prata Dessert - Prata stuffed with vanilla ice cream and bananas, drizzled with chocolate sauce & topped with whipped cream. A very unique combination and use of prata in a dessert! Novelty wise, it's worth a try but I doubt I'll have it the second time because it's quite fattening and too rich. Recommended for sharing with at least 5 people.

Value-for-money Ramen Set Meals OK Mar 21, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

Iced Lemon Tea & Iced Green Tea

Iced Lemon Tea & Iced Green Tea

Green tea wasn't sweet because it's the authentic Japanese green tea. Didn't like it. However, the iced lemon tea was pretty good. Sour and sweet at the same time, very refreshing.
Seafood Ramen

Seafood Ramen

Noodles were just average; not springy, broth was quite oily, but the ingredients used were fresh, especially the squid and scallops. The egg, however, was disappointing, because it's not those onsen eggs. Ajisen's egg reminds me of the lor mee egg.
Cha Shu Ramen

Cha Shu Ramen

The broth for the Cha Shu ramen is the same as the Seafood Ramen. The pork slices were a little bit tough and hard to chew, overall not outstanding.
Tempura & Chicken Cutlet

Tempura & Chicken Cutlet

The side dishes were the most impressive out of the meal. Both tempura and chicken cutlet were served hot and crispy, texture was alright and prawns were fresh. Very sinful when dipped in mayonnaise.
