Cheap, good, Ba Kut Teh Smile Sep 27, 2014

Categories : Bak Kut Teh

This place is opened by ex-onvict but you do not feel uneasy at all. These are all honest, hardworking chaps. They do not talk much (and smile) but their service is fast and efficient.

The Tau Kee is always are favourite. Try also the dry Ba Khut Teh - it's definitely our fav. Also, here, you can ask for unlimited refill of soup base for Ba Khut Teh. No question asked. The only concern is how much you can drink lah.

They have this Taiwan pearl drink that is very appetizing. We order it everytime.

We even have mister Teo Ser Luck behind us with his family dining here but we did not want to disturb their family together time. smile

Tried this stall near the coffee shop next to Fernvale LRT (next to the newly opened Seletar Mall), the sub-branch from the Depot Road.

Long queue here, so prepare to wait. The beef brisket noddles are really good. Generous serving of beef with my fav kai lan vegetables. The taste is perfect - with the right level of seasoning. Meat is a bit tough but still ok. After all, the dish is only $5. Be thankful we still have such stalls around.

The Dumpling soup is also very nice - only $4 for 7 pieces. The fillings are generous too. Will be back for sure!

Ambience is coffee shop type so no air con but after an afternoon rain, it is really comfortable and nice!

Quick bite  Smile May 31, 2014

Categories : Vietnamese

Found this nice little place on top of the Vivio City deck, near Marché. The deco is simple and nothing to shout about. However, we loved the fact that the service is good (wtih a smile) and the place is not too crowded at 6pm on a Saturday evening (if you want some peace and quite time to relax). People started steaming in for a quite bite quite steadily after that - and quite a good crowd too, but not noisy.

In terms of food, we loved the sugar cane prawn, the rice vermicelli supreme as it is topped with lots of flavor, the BBQ meat is really good, the sweet and sour sauce enhances the dish well. Of course, we loved Viet food also for the generous toppings of fresh vegetables, carrots, peanuts etc. For only $ 10.50, it is a MUST try.

A little disappointed they do not serve Viet Coffee and dessets - else, it will be a full feldged Viet experience. Still, for a nice evening (not crowded) that will not blow your budget when you are in Vivo, try this place out. Even the food court is crazy. I guess it's the location. But here, you are paying a food court rate (maybe slightly a little more) for restaurant service. Nice!!!

This place is crowded during lunch time from nearby office crowd. We went there during the weekends as our parents stay nearby and we heard good reviews for this place.

The deco for the place is quite decent. You can choose to sit outside if you prefer to have fresh air. It's actually very cooling and nice in the evening.

Food wise, we choose a few of their favourites. Most main dishes cost around $7.50 - $9.50 only, so it is very affordable. The Assam Prawn is a surprise as it has a hint of vinegar and sweetness, flavoured with lots of spices as well. We only wish they could serve more of it.

The Jueh Pie Tee is very good and freshly made too. Their advice is to eat it asap (before the crispiness of the shell is gone). It is as flavourful and juicy as you will expect.

The pineapple salad is another surprise. I have not tasted this before in any peranakan places. This salad is very appetitising of course, and it goes well with any meat dishes you decide to take.

The meat dishes are ok for us. The meat is tender and juicy. However, it does not have the wow factor for me. Service is good and fast.

Do drop by if you are around Safra Mount Faber. smile It's not eactly very near but a good 10 mins walk to reach.

This place has been opened quite a while, just next to the famous Nakhom Kitchen Thai restaurant. The deco is simple but classy at night. No air con here but plenty of fans to ventilate the place. It was night time when we had dinner here (with candle light) so it was really comfortable and relaxing.

We tried their knuckle dish ($10) and Ribeye Steak ($12). Portions are big enough and filling. Each comes with a mash potato (silky smooth), very nice! Just hope to see more greens in the dish next time. Their greens are very fresh and tasted great with a dash of vingeratte.

The truffle fries are ok. Most tables order beer along with the food. It was a nice touch.

Service is great - there's a glass of free plain water given automatically when you sit down. Makes u feel very welcome.

Overall, it was good place to dine if nearby. Do note that they accept cash only. So bring some along if you come by for visit.
