Kampung Chicky! Smile Dec 28, 2010
Categories : Hainanese | Chicken Rice

I'm sure almost every Singaporean love this dish- chicken rice. With so many outlets to choose from, which are the really good ones in Singapore?

Personally, I think that the one at Chicken House is the most 'yummy-licious'! Their chicken is healthier in the sense that it is kampung breed and that means their chicken is not so high in cholesterol and fat! The chicken is tender and their rice is not too salty. Interestingly, there is a thin layer of jelly beneath the chicken's skin which can be removed easily. For those who enjoy eating the chicken without its skin, don't worry! The thin layer of jelly can be eaten; nice and chewy..you're good to go! smile

Whats an alternative to ice-cream? Yogurt of course! Its a healthier alternative and there's so many flavors to pick from as well! Berrylite is one of the few yogurt brands in Singapore thats 100% fat-free!! Yes, not 96% or 98% but 100% authentic fat free!! Recently, they brought a new flavor to town- Orange Mint! Its $3.60 for a small cup and it tastes as refreshing as peppermints!! Smooth and perfect for an afternoon snack! Its guilt-free and I do hope Berrylite continues to keep this flavor there!! tongue

Spending per head: Approximately $3.60

Festive Set Meal!  Smile Dec 24, 2010

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Hotel

Located at the base of Pearl's Hill, along Chin Swee Road, HotelRe! encloses guests in a scenic environment whilst being just a stone's throw away from Singapore's major shopping district, Orchard Road.

As you step into Hotel Re!, a modern retro themed boutique hotel, you are lost in swirls of vivacious colours and psychedelic furnishings tempered with a sleek modern touch. With numerous themed boutique hotels in the metropolis, this 12-storey, 140-room boutique hotel is a wondrous surprise waiting to be discovered.

So here I was with my mum, for my festive set meal at Hotel Re!'s dedicated restaurant; Re!Fill. Accompanied by the placid environment of the serene city park, guests are given the privilege to savour their meals without rushing through them.

The meal started off with an appetizer- Portobello Mushroom in Oilive, Marinated Scallop, U.S White Asparagus and Black Truffle Vinaigrette. Very beautifully laid out, the appetizer was as appetizing as it looked!

Next, we had the soup- Chicken of Essence with Spinach Revioli Enhanced. Personally, I felt that the soup induced a very 'homely' feeling as it was simple yet tasty. It tasted very much like the soup from your home-made macaroni. There was a simple slice of toast with salted butter to compliment the soup served.

Following that, we had the main course. I had: grilled beef tenderloin with foie gras sauce, sauce potato gratin and a medley of vegetables. My mum had: roasted chestnut stuffing, honey baked ham, potato gratin, zuchinni and raspberry walnut dressing. We shared our mains to get a taste of both dishes. After discussion, we both felt that both mains were just as fabulous! My beef tenderloin was well done, not too tough to chew on and the meat juices blended very well with the foie gras sauce. The turkey was finely sliced and the mix of ham slices gave the whole dish a slightly salted taste.

Penultimately, our much anticipated desserts arrived! Hotel Re!'s 'Temptation Delights' they call it. Indeed, the desserts looked very tempting from afar as we glanced across the room waiting for the waitress to serve the very colorful platter. Temptation Delights consists of: a scoop of chocolate ice-cream, toppled with strawberry, a mini mango cake, a cocktail jelly as well as a 'kebab' of fruits. The variety of desserts were delicate and sweet as they should taste.

Finally, we had our beverages (coffee/tea) to end off the meal.

This festive set meal is priced at $23.80++. I would say its worth a try, but if you're looking for something more filling, opt for their buffet instead! smile Have a splendid Christmas everyone!!

Beef Yee-Mian Smile Dec 23, 2010

Categories : Hawker Centre | Zi Char

Beef noodles is a typical favorite among many Singaporeans and I am no exception! One afternoon, I made my way down to Chinatown Complex Market, located at Smith Street. There was a crowd queuing at this stall selling fried wok items like fried rice, noodles and hor fun! I decided to order my favorite beef hor fun actually but they were already sold out. The stall owner then suggested I tried their beef eeee-mian instead, which tasted just as great! The hot steaming plate of noodles came with tender beef slices. It was a simple fare but the gravy together with the noodles and the beef- just nice, made the meal a satisfying one! Yumzzzzz! lol

Joe Pork Porridge is one of my favorite food stalls in Chinatown!! Many may not have heard of this stall but trust me, it sells super nice pork porridge and raw fish! Priced at $2.50 only for a bowl of porridge. The bowl of porridge is loaded with pork ingredients, an egg, fresh spring onions and crispy fried shallot toppings!! For breakfast, lunch or dinner you can have it is definitely a filling meal! Cheap and delicious comfort food, you guys gotta check it out! mad
