Black Forest Cake  OK Dec 01, 2013
Categories : Bakery

Bought an Longevity Cake to celebrate my grandma's birthday

For this design, you can choose from many different kinds of flavors, including Black Forest, Pure Addiction and also its Durian. Price wise for 1kg of cake, it cost around $100.

The black forest cake taste quite wonderful, but there's only a layer of cake, most of it are creams. The 2 peaches or 'Shou Tao' on top of the cake are made of sugar icing, abit too sweet though.

Biscuits! Smile Dec 10, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese

Came to this area to collect something, this decided to patronize this old shop that has many many years of history.

Tan Hock Seng serves great Tau Sar Piahs and Wife's Biscuits. Its Tau Sar Piah comes in either sweet or salty version, I personally prefer its salty version as the pastry itself is somehow sweet, with the salty paste inside, it makes a wonderful match. (5 for $3)

The wife biscuit (5 for $3) is seldom found in Singapore, and this stall serves great wife's biscuit. Its paste is not too sweet and the biscuit is also not too hard. For a price of $0.60 each, its actually very cheap considering its size of the biscuit.

Tan Hock Seng also sells other kinds of kuehs and pastries like the 'Huat Kweh' ($21 for Big size). And other oldies food.

The location of the shop is right infront of the new Downtown line (Telok Ayer Stn) which operates from 22 December onwards. Great for those who loves to get nice pastries.

Macarons! Smile Dec 03, 2013

Its very rare for me to go to the west side. Cannot remember when was the last time I went to Jurong East.

This time, visited the new shopping mall - JCube and Pique Nique's Macaron Display caught my attention. There were various kinds of desserts - Cakes & Macarons. Rather, I'm more towards macarons.

Each macarons is priced at $2.15 with GST. Which is considered reasonable. They have many kinds of flavours, including Vanilla, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Coffee, Strawberry and many many others. Decided to buy half a dozen and try out. It cost $12.85.

Out of the 6 macarons that I bought, I prefer the vanilla one. Its not too sweet and the fragrance vanilla smell really lights up my taste buds. Others were great too! Not too sweet and taste just nice.

OpenRice Food Tasting Smile Dec 03, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre | Roasted Meat

Joined the OpenRice Team and fellow OpenRicers for a Food Tasting Session last Wednesday at King's Roast, which is at Balestier food centre. King's Roast is founded and opened by the famous Chef Kingsley and of course, with his partners.

What makes this Roast Delicacies stall so special? Firstly, the ovens used to make the roasted delicacies are combi-ovens, which are very expensive and are usually used only at Hotels and famous restaurants. Secondly, the chilli sauce served at King's Roast is actually made by Chef Kingsley.

We had the chance to try out its Roasted duck, char siew, chicken, oyster sauce vegetable and Thai Style Tofu. Also, we get to choose from plain rice, chicken rice, hor fun and noodles.

My favorites are actually the Thai Style Tofu, Char Siew and not forgetting the homemade Chilli sauce.

The Thai style tofu is very crispy and soft, with the Thai sauce, it mades the dish very appetizing and delicious.

As for the char siew, it comes with a special sauce which makes the char siew taste even more great. You've to try it to believe it!

Otah Smile Dec 18, 2013

Categories : Malay | Coffeeshop

My grandma stays at Hougang area, thus will ways patronise this stall for its Satay.

This stall is famous for its Satay, which are sold at $0.50/stick. Other than satays, they also sell Otah $0.50/stick and Fried Kway Teow ($3/pack)

Today, its my first time trying out its otah. Its fish otah is actually quite spicy, suitable for those who can take spicy food. You can also find fish bites inside the otah, which is rarely found in otah. Worth a try if you hadn't.
