Sets are quite worthwhile Smile Dec 29, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Sets are quite worth it when you can't decide what you want to eat and when you are sharing with others and want to order say, 2 sets for 3 pax.

Sun with Moon has not let me down in terms of their presentation and the quality of food is always on par, however, their service has gone down in recent times. This is probably because of labor issues.

The set that was ordered is Tokusen Unagi Seiro Mushi & Natsu Tempura Mori for $35.80 before GST and service charge.

Tempura fried and served on the spot. Was crispy and the tempura did not feel thick with oil.

Salmon Sashimi were rather thick and the texture was good and felt relatively fresh.

Unagi & rice was served in a wooden dimsum platter and leaf. The food tasted as delectable as the presentation and the unagi covered the rice well and did not feel as if the chef was skimping at all.

Recommended Dish(es):  Unagi & rice

unaju Smile Dec 29, 2013

Come here on a weekday and at lunch time and you can probably save some money, however, you won't save much because the meal is still expensive but worth it for the experience. Do take note to book and reserve seats as it's rather popular.

The waitresses are all in kimonos and it's almost as if you're escorted to Japan in an instant.
I ordered the mini-eel and Kabayaki style as I couldn't bear to spend more than I needed in order to obtain this experience ($68 before GST and service charge). There are 3 different choices that you can choose from and the most expensive option is when you can eat the unaju in 3 different ways.

1) eaten the normal way: unaju and rice.
2) eaten with spring onion, wasabi, and other condiments which they provide
3) eaten with soup

I think my favorite is option #2, but be experimental and try all 3 ways if you've never had the opportunity before.
If you're confused, do ask the waitresses as they are quite helpful.

Salad and Tofu as appetizers

The condiments that you add to get Option #2.

Freshwater eel that apparently they raise themself and isn't outsourced

Kabayaki style

Green Tea ice cream to finish off the meal

Recommended Dish(es):  Unagi, Unaju

Spending per head: Approximately $75(Lunch)

Dou Hua Smile Dec 29, 2013

Categories : Coffeeshop

The place was a bit tough to find as the sign isn't very obvious. They are selling lots of bites for a reasonable price. However, as we wanted dessert after a meal and it was late at night, didn't get a chance to try it.

I did try the ha gao and it was rather decent, but I really want to try their onion pancake / shao bing/ or dan bing.

Ice dou hua is pretty much the way I like it- the dou hua is thick doesn't melt away in your mouth like lao ban dou hua. The sugar is already added in though, so you don't get a chance to customize your sugar level and might bit sweet for some people.

Recommended Dish(es):  Dou hua

less than $2.00 per plate Smile Dec 29, 2013

At $1.50 per plate (before GST), it's cheap comparable to other Japanese restaurants. After GST and service charge, it's less than $2 per plate.

I took pictures of 3 dishes I'd be back for. These selections disappear off the sushi train rather quickly as they're quite rare and I suppose their costs are higher.
unagi

unagi sushi roll. relatively thick pieces with rice
cafe

blueberry cheesecake that was sweet without being too creamy, nor too light. each bite was delightful.
miso soup

miso soup

miso soup needs to be ordered and there were surprisingly thick pieces of salmon inside which makes it very worth it and unlike normal miso soup. The tea is refillable at the individual station you're sitting at.

The weekday lunch set is super worth it as it's $32.80 nett for 2 pax.
It includes 1 appetizer, 1 dish, 1 lamian, 1 xiao long bao, and a drink each.
The appetizer, dish, and lamian is chosen from a list that's already pre-selected.

Deep fried diced chicken with fried chili was served hot but luckily it was a small portion cause it started to lose its flavor after a while.
xiao long bao and sliced pork appetizer

Xiao long bao's skin may not be as thin as din tai fung but the soup is very present
Sliced pork roll with cucumber and garlic is a cold dish that definitely got our appetites rolling
