Ramen Smile Nov 28, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Ramen

My friend was craving ramen so we decided to try this small establishment amongst the japanese section at Jurong Point.

The bowl had plenty of ramen noodles and not enough broth--one of their promotional seasonal items. I'm always tempted to ask if the broth can be refilled. I felt like there was a lot of care in cooking my ramen and the pieces of charsiu were thick and filling. The bowl looked small at first, but I was full before I was even halfway done.

Yhingthai is where you can authentic thai food in a classy environment that is not too classy that you feel out of place, but you get the feeling that you're in your private dining room. There were some family issues going on in the corner of the restaurant and everyone was quite respectful on what was going on.

The staff are quite friendly and open to you changing your orders. ie. if you don't eat...pork they can substitute the meat, or if you want to add an egg to your Basil Fried Rice.

Tom Yam comes in two choices when you are here: with or without coconut milk (good if you're calorie conscious). I believe there's also spicy and non-spicy version. Served on a nice delicate porcelain bowl

Olive Fried Rice had a very well presentation and tasted great. The ingredients are placed surrounding the purple rice so you can choose what you want to mix inside

Recommended Dish(es):  Tom Yum, Olive Fried Rice

Cheap Fruit Juice Smile Nov 28, 2013
Categories : Bakery

While Cake History sells bread, this branch also sells fruit juice. Instead of considering the fruit juices on the signboard, you should consider the "Juice of the day". At first, I thought it was just one type of juice a day, but it turns out that the ones that are displayed and ready to go are the juices that they are referring to.

It really saves on money (approx $2 a cup) and it's fruit juice that you can hear them blending behind. They usually have soursop or lime juice and those are my go to choices. I used to frequent the bubble tea shops around the corner, but upon discovering this gem, this is my go to place to get a drink after a meal at toa payoh hub smile

The lady is also quite patient in waiting for you to choose your drink and I saw once that she helped poke the straw in a customer's cup after the customer's request without giving any weird or dirty looks.

Mookata Smile Nov 28, 2013
Categories : Thai | Coffeeshop | Steamboat/Hot Pot

My first time Mookata-ing, and I think it was really worth it. I can't remember the exact price but it was approximately $35 for their set which includes 2 eggs, soup, pork meat, veggies, and seafood (prawns).

Their sauce is quite good which consisted of Thai chili sauce, garlic..and of course since it's their house sauce they have other ingredients inside.

The soup base consists of Tom Yam or Chicken Soup and it comes along with the set.
It took a while for the pot to come but it's probably because they were trying to light up the charcoal. We had to scoop the soup into the bowl and then waited for the soup to boil before we started cooking the veggies.

Mookata is really sinful because you can BBQ and steamboat at the same time. The juices of the meats that you BBQ also flow into the soup so your soup is really tasty.

One mistake that we made was that we left the pork fat/lard to the end, but we should have cooked it in the beginning. (We thought it was sliced fish)

You have to pay your meal at the stall but be patient as the workers seem to not be able to speak English well and are from Thailand smile

Thin Crust Pizza Smile Nov 28, 2013
Categories : American | Restaurant | Pasta

This is the only place I know in Singapore that sells New York Style Thin Crust pizza. The kind which you fold in half and eat together. I'm not sure why people do that..., but they do.

Anyway, there was this groupon deal where you a set included a pizza, 2 wings, and a soft drink.
We ordered one duck pizza, the other, being their bacon pizza.
The pizzas were quite big, but not very filling.
The taste of the pizza was not bad, but unfortunately, the display case they keep it in doesn't help retain it's warmth. One of the pizzas had been displayed there for a while, but the other one had just come out from the oven--and it tasted great on a different level (what a pity).
The wings were served hot, but the way they fried it, it was tough, and there was barely any juicy meat left.
