Laksa galore Smile Feb 11, 2013

I'm sure everyone has had steamboat at one point in time, but have you ever had laksa steamboat? Well, Laksania made sure I did and it was a very memorable (and full) experience. It's like any typical steamboat, except that the soup base is Laksa. I chose the Seafood steamboat, and opted out of the cockles. The place was crowded at dinner time. Likely to be the reasonably-priced items.

Timbre Smile Feb 11, 2013

Roasted Duck Thin-crust Pizza

Roasted Duck Thin-crust Pizza

The Roasted Duck Thin-crust Pizza is THE highlight on the Timbre. According to a waiter, it is one of their bestselling pizzas. There are roasted duck breast, sautéed shitake mushroom, popiah skin and mozzarella cheese which sound like a weird combination but put together, it was delicious. Really a potent East-meets-West combination. I just took one slice after another and before I knew it, everything was gone. So be fast when you're out with friends!

I went for the Gold Fish ($17.80), not expecting the side serve of rice. ONE piece of fish? Come on, nydc, I'm sure you can do better than this. If not for the $5.50 top-up to a meal, the meal would have been thoroughly disappointing. Even then, the top-up wasn't fantastic. It included a drink and the soup-of-the-day. It was also quite difficult to get the attention of the staff. There are many other choices, many more appealing than the lunch here.

Saw a lot of reviews on the outside of the restaurant, raving about its cheese-baked rice and so decided to give it a try. It didn't really live up to its promises. The rice was drowned in the sauce and the mango sauch that went with it was too sweet for a chees-baked dish (IMO). They are, however, very generous with the cheese powder. The canister came with two sides, one with small holes and the other with just one big hole so that you can pour out more at one go.

coffee bean Smile Feb 11, 2013

Coffee Bean does not have service charges nor additional GST so I was not expecting the food to be served to me. However, I was asked to take a seat and the food delivered to my table by the wait staff. Another surprise was the the huge portion of the Fettucine ($10.50). It seemed bottomless! The crispy garlic bread served on the side added a lovely touch to my meal.
