Food Review: 2D1N Soju Bang Smile Feb 27, 2011

Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Buffet | Korean BBQ

Celebrating one of the besties’ birthday at 2d1n Soju Bang located at Tanjong Pagar Road, was a love/hate thing. Love the food, and reasonable pricing, but we loathed the long queue!

2d1n Soju Bang is a Korean BBQ Buffet place, which is definitely affordable compared to its counterparts located in the area or West Coast. No reservation is allowed, which is kinda surprising ‘cos I tried to make a reservation during X’mas period for Nutties’ Xmas Dinner, and their reply was no reservation allowed for ‘festive season’. Maybe they have changed their booking system I guess. Anyways, didnt take much photos as we girls were busy chatting, catching up and savouring the food. There’s one area where all the cutlery, marinated meat and ingredients are placed, and the staffs do re-stock pretty fast on the food (commendable!). Also, the hot plate used for the bbq is designed to be slanted, so that the oil could be dripped into a plate (healthy!). And if you fear the burnt pieces sticking to your food after BBQ-ing for awhile, no fret! The staffs would help to change the aluminium foil everytime they spot burnt pieces on the current foil. Good service imho!

Pretty crowded area, authentic feel of Korean food joint, great marinated meat, lettuce for the cooked meat, KIMCHI!!, free flow of bottled water, ice, dessert, soup, and staple food – rice and noodles! Tell me again, what’s there not to love about 2d1n Soju Bang (minus the queue)? Oh, maybe the BBQ stench on you for the aftermath?

Buffet price:
Adult – S$20+
Child – S$15+

*Recommended if you have the time to wait and for gatherings (small group!).

Food Review: Tampopo Deli Smile Jan 12, 2011

Categories : Japanese

Colleagues and I wanted to be adverturous for lunch venue today so we ventured around the basement area of Liang Court, to our delight, we spotted Tampopo Deli! We passed by this Japanese place a few times but couldnt put a name to it until today. They have a wide selection of food to choose from - Salads from S$3 to S$8 each, Pita Sandwiches from S$3.50 to S$3.80 each, Don/Bento sets from S$10 to S$12 each, and lotsa of sweet items! We had pita sandwiches, Rachel had Minchi Sandwich (Minced Pork) while Jasmine and I tried the Teriyaki Chicken. I also ordered the Salmon Onigiri just in case I'd get hungry.

The food didnt disappoint us - fresh ingredients, great service, quiet setting, healthy and the portion is just nice for us or rather lunch! The price is the most attractive, at S$3.50 onwards for the Pita Sandwiches and S$1.90 for a big Salmon Onigiri, we truly had a happy lunch ;) A tad pity we didnt take any pictures as we were too hungry, next time! We foresee Tampopo Deli to be a regular haunt for lunches now.

Categories : Italian | Bars/Lounges | Restaurant

So, my boss treated us to a Christmas Luncheon at Garibaldi Italian Restaurant & Bar - helmed by Executive Chef Roberto Galetti, both himself and the restaurant were awarded Restauranteur of the Year and Restaurant of the Year in 2009 at the World Gourmet Summit Awards of Excellence! We knew we were in for a good treat Located at 36 Purvis Street, Garibaldi Italian Restaurant & Bar is easily accessible via public transport as well! There are also other restaurants that look promising, Rachel also recommended us a Chicken Rice stall down the street.

Upon reaching the restaurant, we were greeted by friendly staffs. Nice ambience albiet the noise level was pretty high which I guess it’s due to the echoes of everyone’s talking? We wanted to go for the UOB Promotion - S$68++ for 2pax, but in the end we all chose the Set Lunch at S$38++ per pax. You can view the Set Lunch menu at http://www.garibaldi.com.sg. It wasnt the Christmas menu yet, nonetheless we are agreed that the food is good

For a four course meal at an award-winning restaurant, I give it thumbs up! Go try their Set Lunches, I think it’s really worth the price! And thanks Boss and colleagues, for the wonderful company and enjoyable lunch. Cheers!

x.
