Years ago, this is where my parents will bring us to eat kway chap in Blanco court. the lines will be long, and you will see the old man chopping his kway chap with his signature hunchback.

The store is now being run by his son (I think). The kway chap is good. There isn't many of good kway chaps around now. And I especially love traditional ones.

Come if you are looking for a traditional Sg hawker food, the kway is light and the broth flavorful. They still serve both the big and small intestines.

Come for the view! Smile May 18, 2012

I had never had any food here, but have been here several times for drinks. The view is simply unbeatable. It gets very crowded on weekdays as it is in the business district. We like to come on the weekends where it is quiet.

On clear day, it is best to come in the evening so that it is not so hot and you can sit out and soak in the awesome view of the entire marina bay. I like this view better than that on KDT on top of MBS.

Beer is decent but nothing life changing. The view alone is enough for me to come back. Especially good when you bring visitors who will always be awed by it. Stay for the sunset and you get to see both the day and night view.

Terrible terrible service! OK May 18, 2012

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese | Hotel | Dim Sum | Seafood

Food is good, no doubt, but not exceptional. You ca read the other reviews.

However, we had absolutely horrendous service. The manager himself took the orders for our party of 6. After serving 4 dimsum items, the waitress said that was all that we ordered. We listed the other items which we ordered and she said she will add them in. Again, the items came out short and the manager came back to clarify and we added them again. This happened a total of FOUR times. And each time, there is no real apology and there is a total nonchalant attitude.

We simply cannot understand how a restaurant in Raffles hotel can have this level of service. At the end of our meal, we commented that we did not want to pay the service charge. The waitress left with our credit card without saying anything, and returned a box of pineapple patries, but with no waiver of the service charge, nor real apology. No wonder the place is half empty when we settled our check at 1pm on a weekend.

Ok, Royal China, I think there are better dimsum restaurants who appreciate our business.

Best Egg benedict! Smile May 18, 2012

It has always been hard for me to find good egg benedict in Singapore. So I am ecstatic to find one!

Group therapy is located in a hidden cafe upstairs in the Duxton area. The area is quiet on weekends and we are surprised to chance upon it on a saturday and found it totally crowded!

We were there after a big dimsum lunch. Supposedly only for coffee, but when I saw the egg benedict ordered by the table next to us, I had to order one to try. Glad we had a big group to share out the calories!

Great choice. The egg is perfectly runny, and the hollandaise sauce is so rich that it can only be homemade and not out of a jar. the thick brioche toast is also really amazing, and we polished it off even though we all came from a big lunch!

We also ordered various coffees and drinks, and shared a carrot cake. Nothing very life changing, and the carrot cake is a little to sweet for my liking. But I would totally go back for the egg benedict!

The other thing i really like about the place is that the service is awesome. The people running the place looks like they are from the creative fields and as though they are a bunch of friends hanging out at their cafe. And they totally loved their food and it shows!

all under one roof! OK May 18, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen

Interesting ramen concept where they housed many ramen shops straight from Japan under one roof. You get to try different types of ramen (Most are from Tokyo, but we also spotted one from Hokkaido and Kyushu).

We tried two types. One from Bario, the other is the black shoyu ramen from Menya.

Bario: only try this if you like thick noodles. The noodles is not the typical ramen noodles, it is thick wavy egg noodles, served with a very very generous portion of bean sprouts. it is apparantly most popular among guys in Japan. (Incidentally, I have just returned from Tokyo and the ramen bars there are indeed usually only filled with men). The broth is also very thick and flavorful, albeit a little on the salty side.

Black Shoyu ramen: thinner noodles, in a black shoyu broth. Love the onsen egg which usually hits the spot for me. The char siew is also well done. But I still prefer the thicker pork bone broth. Again, a tad too salty for our palate.

Tetsu: We ordered gyoza from Tetsu (which is famous for their tsukumen aka dry ramen). Please do not order theor gyoza. Only if you like thick thick skin. Their menu claims their gyoza is juicy. Yes, they do have some broth in the gyoza (a little cross over from xiao-long-bao), but the skin is so so thick that it is definitely one of the worst gyoza I've tasted.
