Japanese Buffet Smile Mar 29, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant

This review is a little late cause they no longer offer the buffet. But nonetheless, I encourage people to grab the buffet deal if it comes up on groupon or deals or wherever againsmile

I suppose salmon sashimi is the first go to food when we eat Japanese buffet. The sashimi served was really fresh and the wasabi they provided was nice. We asked for the sashimi to be served on ice cause we preferred our sashimi to be colder. All the other food stuff were really nice.

Japanese Buffet Smile Mar 29, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Buffet

My family went to Kuishin Bo to try it out a while ago. It served a wide variety of sushi, tempura, and Japanese appetizers. It also served sukiyaki, which we didn't really like.

Like a lot of other people, I enjoyed the free flow salmon sashimi! Nothing beats the satisfying of the craving for salmon sashimi. The fried items were not bad too.

The desserts was quite ok with some Japanese desserts like mochi and dango but personally I feel that there are other buffets serves better desserts. tongue

I find the price slightly pricey, since with all buffets the recent credit card promotions has to offer, there are better buffets to go to.

Spending per head: Approximately $45

Dimsum brunch Smile Mar 28, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese | Restaurant | Dim Sum | Seafood

My brother had vouchers so my family went to The Cathay Restaurant to have dim sum brunch.

The usual har gao, siew mai, liu sha bao and chee cheong fun is not bad. Being a fan of egg tarts, I was a little disappointed with their egg tarts. It would have been perfect if it was slightly sweeter.

We tried out this special dish which is a mixture of layer of pumpkin and yam fried and cut into rectangular shape. My brother and I didn't really liked it cause it had this starchy taste but my mother really liked it. Different generation taste maybe? XD

Last thing to note was that the service there was really good, we were really happy with the service there.

New and Nice Japanese Hot Pot!! Smile Jan 30, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hot Pot | Buffet | Kids-Friendly

Danro is a Japanese Hot Pot buffet style restaurant under the MOF company. My family decided to try it out cause we wanted to eat our CNY tuan yuan fan there.

Price
The prices are quite reasonable for a Hot Pot.
It is $16.90 for weekday lunch, $14.90 for student* week day lunch, $22.90 for weekday dinner and $18.90 for student* weekday dinner.

On weekends, it is $20.90 for lunch, $18.90 for student* lunch, $24.90 for dinner and $22.90 for student* dinner.

*Do take note that the student discount is only applicable to secondary school students and below.
**MOF citizen takes $2 off the price smile

Food
There are a few hot pots in Serangoon NEX like Shabu Sushi, Crystal Jade Korean BBQ steamboat and the Xian De Lai but I felt the spread in Danro attract me the most.

First of all the soup base, I really liked both the soup base, the seafood was slightly milder but both tast great!

Second, the seafood selection. The scallops really attracted me!! Free flow of delicious big scallops! The fish and prawns was really fresh too. However, the crab was disappointing, I used the scallops to make up for it.

They also had onsen, which is japanese style of half boiled egg but served cold in a light jap sauce. It was quite nice but the egg yolk was a little to cooked already which is a pity.

Third, they have the usual range of vegetables but the yam and raddish was especially nice. The yam slices were cut just right (a lot of hot pot places cut it too thin and it just disintegrates in the pot :/).

Lastly, there had other food stuff worth trying out too. Like their guan dong zhu, which have japanese glass noodle inside, one of my personal favourites in japanese soups. There also serve sushi and have desserts too like fruits, cakes, jelly and warm desserts such as barley. I really like the barley they had, the sweetness was just right after a full meal. lol

Service
The service was not bad. The staff were quick to respond to our request of refilling soup. smile

Yummy Japanese pastas and pizza Smile Jun 03, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Pasta

The food is quite nice and we practically didn't pay much as it the pasta was free as the value meal and the baked rice was from the midori section in the card that Shokutsu 10 that you can earn one chop with every $20 spent. The pasta was quite nice but the bake rice was slightly dry. I would like it more if the rice had a little more sauce in it.
