Butter Rice Puff Smile Jun 15, 2012
Categories : Taiwanese

This new snacks claims to be 100% Natural ingredients, Low Calories, High Fibre, No Preservatives, No Artificial Flavorings, No MSG, No Trans Fat, & Non-Fried. The rice puff was very crispy and comes in different flavors like original, curry, seaweed and butter.

The butter flavor was very fragrant as they were making this rice puff on the spot with the machine. It is like a healthy version of pop corns. Each pieces were about palm size. They were giving out samples to try, I decided to buy a bag of the very fragrant butter flavors.

Mochaccino

Mochaccino

I decided to have coffee after sending a friend off at the airport.

The McCafe is within the McDonald Restuarant. The sitting area is big with a mixture of soft sofa chairs and plastic hard sitting. It is a nice chill out place on weekday.

I ordered a medium size Mochaccino. The Mochaccini is a mixture of cappuccino & chocolate. Th coffee has a light aroma of coffee and cocoa powder. The taste was perfect for me as I am not a coffee drinker and not overpowering sweet. I like the coffee art design of leaf on top of the coffee.

The kind lady even offered to served to my table as it was not crowded on this weekday afternoon.

Shunde Cuisine Smile Feb 17, 2012

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum

We had a Chap Goh Mei dinner at the new Canton Paradise Restaurant. It serves a different branch of Cantonese’s Cuisine which is Shunde.
Yu Shang $38

Yu Shang $38

As it is the last day of Chinese New Year, we ordered Yu Shang. The medley of colourful shredded vegetables and ingredients gives it a cheerful start to the dinner. We toss the vegetables high with each Auspicious phrases to wish each other for the year. The final result is the right balance of different taste of sweetness and tangy taste.
Double boil Watercress Soup $16.80

Double boil Watercress Soup $16.80

They serve 3 daily soups from the soup sections of the menu. We love the double-boiled soup which is clear and its nourishing property.
Steam Lingzhi Tofu with Minced $12.80

Steam Lingzhi Tofu with Minced $12.80

We finally get to taste the Steam Lingzhi tofu which was recommended in the previous newspaper review. I find this dish bland compared to all the other sharp taste dishes we order. The grey colour tofu look dull but cannot fault the smooth like silk tofu.
BBQ Pork Belly with Honey $15.80

BBQ Pork Belly with Honey $15.80

The Char Sui is a different version which is BBQ Pork with Honey. It is closer to the Malaysian style black char sui except that is uses Belly Pork. Surprisely it is very tasty with the honey coating and does not feel fattening. I highly recommended this dish.

Below is the 2 items we tried when the Restaurant first open. We were there for dinner on the 2nd day of their opening around 8.30pm and most of their recommended dishes were sold out. Luckily this time we managed to try it.
Wok-fried Mustard Leaf with Minced Duck $12.80

Wok-fried Mustard Leaf with Minced Duck $12.80

The wok-fried mustard green with cube of duck. It goes well with rice or porridge as the chopped mustard green has a crunchy texture.
Custard Glutinous Rice Ball with Grated Oats $4.80

Custard Glutinous Rice Ball with Grated Oats $4.80

The custard glutinous rice ball with grated oats was different from the usual rice ball served with grated peanut. It was served warm with the liquid custard oozing out when you bite into it.

I gave a lower score for Service as they make 2 mistakes on my order but corrected it without any fuss. The 1st mistake was that I ordered the big pot of soup to be shared but they brought 2 individual bowls of soup. Another was that we ordered the BBQ Pork but they serve us roast duck. At least the bill was correct.

Early Breakfast Place. Smile Feb 17, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indian | Halal

Good thing about this place is that it is open early on weekend at 8.30am. In time for an early breakfast before the 1st movie screening of the day. All other eating place in the basement is not opened yet except for NTUC supermarket. Therefore easy to find parking at Tampines Mall at that early morning.

We ordered Teh Tarik, plain Prata & Chicken Martabak. At $7.90 the price of the Martabak is almost double what you pay outside, but you can eat in air-con comfort.
Chicken Martabak

Chicken Martabak

I like that it actually used minced chicken unlike some place where they used shredded curry chicken which makes the martabak soggy. This version has a nice outer layer of crispy dough and filled with moist chicken minced. The free accompanying fish gravy was spicy and very tasty with the Martabak. The portion is enough for 2 persons to share.

The Teh Tarik is as good as any stall outside. It is strong flavour tea with milk and top with a frosty form,

They serve most Indian breakfast like Tosai, but biryani rice is available later.

I highly recommend this place for it tasty Martabak and Teh Tarik at reasonable priced food in a mall. We will go back again whenever we want a place to eat before catching the early morning show.

CNY Hi-Tea Set $13.90

CNY Hi-Tea Set $13.90

The current Hi-Tea set is a Chineses New Year theme. It consists of 2 pieces of scones with cream & jam, 2 pieces of pineapple tarts, mini bak kwa burger & salmon rice crispies.

The scone is crispy on the outside & soft inside, the cream & jam gives it a nice combination.
The pineapple tarts is not like your usual open face tart. It has generouse topping of not too sweet pinapple jam on top a biscuit with 'tcc' piping on the jam. The mini burger has a pieces of bak kwa on top of toasted bread top with mayo and some pickle and fish roe, it was very yummy. Sis had the salmon sitting on the rice crispies, she said it was tasty & gives a nice crunchy texture.

The Hi-Tea set is $13.90++. It comes with coffee or tea served with a cookies.
Seafood Aglio Olio $20.50

Seafood Aglio Olio $20.50

We also ordered a Seafood Aglio Olio to share. This was a bit spicy as it has bits of cut chilli. The perfectly cooked pasta was topped with beautifully arranged pan fried prawns and scallops.
