Pancakes for Lunch Smile Feb 28, 2013
Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

I have finally went through all my final year exams. I decided to find a place to have a good lunch and relax. It led me to Strictly Pancakes at Prinsep Place. On stepping into the cafe, I was immediately immersed in the cool and calm environment with soothing music played. I was served a glass of water right away while looking at the menu.
Strawberries & Co.

Strawberries & Co.

Often, I had pancakes with honey or maple syrup. This time, I had pancakes in a different manner. I had Strawberries & Co., pancakes served with strawberries and blueberries. The pancakes are drenched in cream and garnished with icing sugar. The number of pancakes are just enough for lunch. The berries are put on the side of the pancakes drenched in strawberry coulis. Furthermore, a scoop of vanilla ice cream is served beside the pancakes and the berries. The pancakes are soft, fluffy and a bit salty. They are a bit thicker than McDonald's Hotcakes. The cream is runny and tastes milky and sugary. The berries are fresh and a bit sweet. The coulis seems to be thick and makes the dish taste fruitier, sweeter and sourer. The ice cream appears to have small black bits on the surface. It has not only the fragrance of vanilla but also the taste of spices. lol

This dish of pancakes with berries is hearty and healthy. I can come there next time for other dishes. The cafe also provides wireless service. Maybe I can bring a laptop to surf the Net or chat with friends online before dining the next time I make a tour to the cafe. smile

Pancakes at Tanglin Halt Smile Dec 22, 2012

Categories : Hawker Centre

I was preparing to go to school and had nothing to eat at home for breakfast, so I decided to buy some morning snacks on the way. I happened to come across this stall selling peanut pancakes. There are good reviews outside the stall regarding the pancakes. I believe there is something special about the pancakes from this stall. Hence, I bought two peanut pancakes from this stall to try out.

The pancakes are served on paper tart cups which can be used to hold any peanut bits coming out from the pancake to be scooped into the mouth. They appear brown with bits of peanuts falling out from the pancake. The pancake is soft and spongy. The side of the pancake is crispy and crunchy. The bits of peanuts are gritty and add to the the pancake its sweet nutty flavour. The pancake appears and tastes like mua chee.

The pancakes are very tasty and they are not like any other peanut pancake I have seen and tasted in Singapore. The next time I want to but the pancakes, I have to be early at the right day because they open and close early and the stall is closed at Mondays and Fridays.

Rolina Curry Puffs Smile Nov 28, 2012

Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre

I was having lunch at Serangoon Garden Way Market and Food Centre as I was getting bored of dining near my house or in the school's canteen and decided to feast at somewhere special. I happened to pass by this curry puff stall. It has a long history and was featured in variety TV shows. I heard that the curry puffs they sell are good, so I decided to try one.

The curry puff is golden brown and bigger than any curry puff I have seen in Singapore. It appears like it has much curry filling in comparison to curry puffs from other stalls. The pastry is crispy and is neither too thin nor too thick. The filling is spicier than those in curry puffs I have tried before. The bite-sized potato cubes are soft and becomes mash once chewed. The hard-boiled egg pieces add a fragrant flavour to the curry puff. lol

What a nice piece of curry puff I had! I don't mind having another one next time. smile

Shark Nuggets Lor Mee Smile Nov 07, 2012

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre | Noodles

Feeling hungry and craving for good food, I decided to make a tour to Tiong Bahru Market to see if there is anything nice to eat. I happened to come across this lor mee stall with a name that sounded weird to me. I feel that anyone who runs the stall included the numbers "178" in the stall name probably because they feel that it will make their business prosper. The numbers "178" sound to me like "yi qu fa", which means "prosper once given" in Mandarin. I went there and saw a lot of good reviews about the stall. I bet they are all about the lor mee with shark nuggets which they sell. Hence, I decided to try out the dish to find out what is so good about it.
Shark Nuggets Lor Mee

Shark Nuggets Lor Mee

The yellow noodles are drenched in dark gravy before topping up with shark nuggets, dough fritters and sliced pork. I have put the chopped garlic, chili sauce and then the chopped coriander roughly at the centre of the dish to make the dish look more appealing. The noodles are broad, thick and springy. The dark gravy is sticky, looks like gel and tastes savoury. The nuggets look big and are crispy but becomes soft when dipped in the gravy. The shark meat within the nugget is soft and flossy. The small dough fritters are soft and chewy but are a bit crispy and crunchy. The pieces of pork are bite-sized, bouncy and tender. The chopped garlic and chili sauce make the whole bowl of noodles taste hot and spicy. tongue

Wow, I have never had such a bowl of lor mee before. It is so delicious. I can come there for a bowl of noodles the next time. smile

Nice German Sausages! Smile Nov 03, 2012
Categories : German

I have heard of this wurst stall in Chinatown. It is small but full of good food. This stall is run by an Austrian chef who is popular in Singapore. Not only is he known all over the island, the sausages he prepared are enjoyed by many in Singapore. I have never been there for a long time, so I thought of coming there, saying "Guten Tag" to the chef and then trying out the sausages from this stall. lol
Wurst!

Wurst!

I had this mini combo the stall sells. It is a mix of cuts of two types of sausages, spicy pork which is red and chicken which is white, served on a small paper box with a toothpick. I ate the sausages with mustard and tomato sauce, something that Westerners will do. The pieces of sausages looked charred on one side. Inside a piece of sausage, the meat looks bright. There are even bits of chili in a piece of spicy pork sausage. The casing is soft but crispy and the inside is tender and springy. The spicy pork sausage is peppery hot. The tomato sauce looks like barbecue sauce but has the sweetness of tomatoes. The mustard adds a salty spicy flavour to the sausages. tongue
Nice Bread!

Nice Bread!

Not only is there wurst from the stall, the stall also sells traditional Austrian bread. I had this small loaf of bread the stall calls "Crispy Roll". The bread is hard and crispy on the outside as the name goes but soft and chewy on the inside. It somehow looks and tastes like baguette. Not only the bread tastes good with the wurst, it can quench any bit of spiciness from the spicy pork sausage and the mustard. lol

I really love this small platter of sausages with the bread from this stall. The food is "lecker", which means delicious in German. lol
