Famous Nasi Lemak at lucky Plaza Smile Apr 11, 2013

Categories : Malay

A colleague packet lunch for me. First impression when i open it up is the rice color, kind of look like chicken rice but its the coconut based taste still, i like. My set came with the drum stick, omelette and 1 ikan kuning. Pretty decent eat especially the chilli and the drum stick, quantity wise its a bit small though for a big man like me. They also serve different version like fish, chicken wing, prawns etc. My packet costs $3.80.

Not the same stall Smile Apr 11, 2013

Categories : Malay | Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Halal | Rice

Formerly located opposite the popular nasi lemak stall (international muslim food stall), it has since secured the popular stall position nearer to the usual entrance of the hawker sentence. no wonder i felt it was different right from the start. but as i was cycling, i did not bother to move inwards to locate is there another popular stall. ordered the set A with fried chicken wing, fried egg and anchovies. As i was sharing it with my partner, i topped it up with another fried chicken wing and otah. It cost a whopping $6. But i must say the chicken wing is really crispy and yummy. The chilli on the other hand was a bit of a letdown though, absence of that spice factor. Color wise it was not the deep red belacan chilli signature of nasi lemak dishes. The anchovies on the other hand is also very crunchy i must say.

More than BKT Smile Apr 09, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese

Serving mainly the office crowd here at Midview City, Rong Cheng is a bigger than average stall with high ceiling, they offer the white pepper soup version of BKT costing minimum $6 a bowl. Overall here, u take a seat and wait for your orders to be taken but you pay at the counter after you are done. Carpark cost me $1 for >

1hr stay. I'm not a big fan of that soup but was glad to know they have other lunch options as well. Apparently they hv spin off to include a ci char section as well. I ordered the gong bao chicken rice (dried chilli) at $5, pretty reasonable pricing i would say. The dish surprisingly turned out well, even reminding the same kind of sauce as frog leg porridge. Filling up the plate half with the dish and half of it with the plain rice, its cooked with plenty of sauce to go along with the rice. Great eat as a quick lunch. Anyway i also saw at the cashier counter that they sell steam fish also and it seems to be popular as 2 of the 5 fish choices were sold out.

Post Renovation Smile Apr 08, 2013

Categories : Coffeeshop | Zi Char | Noodles

They recently underwent renovation but from the look of it, nothings change much except for a fresh coat of paint, maybe the major reno is for the kitchen? Fortunately the heavenly bai mee fen standard still maintains at a high standard. Me and my friends were discussing over it and we think the secret probably lies in the broth that they used to cook the beehoon, braising style probably. My friends who were 1st timer there all sang prasies for this beehoon dish, but they also like the hay zhou quite a lot. The fried omelette we ordered came roundly cooked also, fun to cut it evenly for all to share smile.

Waiting time was around 20min but from my observation, if you come after 930pm its quite empty.

$45 per pax Smile Apr 08, 2013
Categories : Korean | Buffet | Korean BBQ

The bill works out to be $45 per pax for a friday night dinner. Tips for driver is to park at the carpark here as complimentary parking is provided, just collect the parking tix at the cashier after you pay. The name that will catch your eye from street level outside is probably the closed waraku, look further up and you will see the partially working neon signs. Recommended to come early to avoid no seats especially during weekends.

Cooked food - korean nian gao/rice cake, pancakes, fish ball, fish cake, beehoon and fried chicken wing

Sauces - standard 3 types provided and i think is chilli sauce, sesame and soy sauce

Vege/side dish - several fresh vege option but not the leafy type with only lettuce provided, but still a good selection especially the vege can be barbequed. Side dishes were just missing the usual nice anchovies
salad - not too bad with the items looking fresh and not some old looking vegetables, fruits like oranges and pineapple are also provided

Meat - i counted total around 18 types offered and definitely better standard than your usual tian tian buffet or seoul garden. i particularly like the chuck eye roll, tioman fish and beef short plate. Despite bbq food, it was refreshing to wrap the meats in lettuce or eat it with a carrot or cucumber slice.

setup - the stove you used is inclined at he centered which allows the oil to drip to the bottom base plate. Waitering staff also constantly help you to wipe clean your hotplate with serviettes so you do not experience the back charred food grease with your food, thumbs up for that. Each table is also given a bottle of plain water.
