Generous Chicken Serving Smile Aug 07, 2013

within the same coffeeshop, there is also a chicken rice stall. i was pleasantly surprised this day when i chose to packet $4 worth of the ampang ytf and a packet of roast chicken rice. From my picture attached, i'm sure one would agree with me the quantity of chicken given is super generous. Although its a little dry and the rice is averagely fragrant, you can never eny that for a mere $3, you probably can't find an amount offered for any other chicken rice stall. Maybe uncle tio 4D last night hahaha

Came by this place after Guan's abalone noodles was closed. Had to wait up to 30min for the claypot rice so we opted for ala carte dishes and plain rice (50cents each) instead. ordered the usual favourites like the lotus root duck $10, french bean with shrimps $8 and a salted vege toufu soup $6. As usual the duck was fantastic, with the sauce going so well with the rice. The french bean is also crunchy and the fried shrimps complements it. The soup was a little let down though, had expected those that was boiled for long in the porcelain bowl type but turn out its instant cooked ones. Total bill was $25 for 2 pax. I did not opt for the wet tissue as it was chargeable. Roadside parking lot is foc after 5pm, i think they actually hv free parking tie up with one of the "hui guan" at another lorong. if you can't find a lot, do check with them on that.

The Cow is Back Smile Aug 07, 2013

I think nowadays you can only find such cow shape metal hotplate at neighborhood coffee shop, at least Char Grill Bar seems to be growing strong and sure hopes it stays. My order of Prime Black Pepper Steak came simple, just with onions as base to prevent overcooking and tasteful sauce on the meat. It comes with 2 sides which is usually served separately, mashed potato and onion rings my choice. Its only 4 pieces though tongue. At $10.80 only, I would say its really a no frills meal, the meat is nice and juicy, yes I know its frozen meat but hey it fulfills the craving!

Soup's the winner Smile Jul 29, 2013

Categories : Noodles

have always wondered the difference between this stall and the race course road one so decided to pop by for lunch today. coupon parking is just beside lor 34. Guan's noodle is the shop beside tiong bahru bao. The place is like a coffeeshop style but with simple and nicely furnished wooden tables and chairs. both round and rectangle tables are available. Yr orders will be taken at your table. First look at the menu, pretty similar to Ah nan but they do have some very interesting side dishes like eggplant, baby abalones, fried fish skin etc. I proceeded to order the signature abalone noodle which cost around $6.50. drinks i ordered the ready paced chrysanthemum ginseng. When i saw the other table ordered fish skin, i decided to get this $4 side dish as well.

when the noodles were delivered, 1st impression it looks pretty much the same with the stick of 3 pieces of abalone on a satay stick skewer. on closer observation it seems to beat ah nan in its ingredients mixed. The 3 abalone were nicely cut meaty portion. there was one prawn, one yu jiao, bah chor, lean meat, fried pork lard, green lettuce and 1 fried fish ball. i like it that the noodles were not over cook and the sauce mix was not too oily. The ingredients went well with the mee pok as well. it was above average for me. The chilli offered is the soy sauce infused red cut chilli. i like this type that has been infused for long as it will not be too spicy. But the soup was the one that is surprising...it was flavorful and sweet, almost wanted to order another bowl, hopefully they did not use too much msg. The soup is definitely 1 level up most other stalls i've been too. maybe i will try the dumpling soup next time with rice, should be a nice eat. The fried fish skin was also delightful, fried on the spot as i can taste the crunchy and crispiness in it. too bad they do not offer mayonnaise as a dip, but it still taste good eating i standalone or dipping onto the noodle sauce.

i'm happy i had a good lunch.

briyani set Smile Jul 22, 2013

Categories : Indian | Malay | Coffeeshop

Was here hoping to try the ayam penyet but it was not opened. so tried the chicken briyani set here instead. also added 2 of the ala carte vege, that cost me around $6 for this set. As usual generous serving of rice, cucumber. I would say in terms of quantity this stall is not stingy at all. I aso asked afor a searate plate of curry gravy and was gladly obliged. The tandoori chicken was a little cold though but the curry mix made up for it. i was lucky the vegetables were just out of the work so it was still hot.
