Have always thought this was a teochew porridge stall, although the signage did have a frog in front, it was too high for it to be noticeable whenever i drove pass. Turns out this is actually a frog leg porridge and bbq seafood stall. located at the same row as yeo keng nam chicken rice, it has a small carpark which allows may parking up to 15 cars, private parking here so no coupons required. its very much coffee shop style with tables lined up outside the shop. But i like the fact they provide box tissues for diners instead of charging for the wet ones.

Ordered 2 dried chilli frogs $13 with small porridge $2 and sambal tapioca leaves. Was particularly impressed with the sambal tapioca leaf $6 as it was prepared the same style as bbq seafood, pan fried on a banana leave. They also have other vege available like smelly beans and also kai lan. Likewise they also serve sambal sotong, stingray, lala etc and all looks pretty nice. It should be based on how well this tapioca leave is done. The frog leg porridge was above average as well with green onions aplenty provided. Also i think the default taste is not overly spicy, do rem to remind them if you would like it more fiery hot. The porridge was smooths and went very well with the suace. i almost poured all my remaining porridge into the claypot of frog smile Overall a good eat and i'm sure to return soon to try the bbq seafood.

Newly opened this week, Saveur sets up its 2nd stall after Purvis Street. Taking up half of the area left by the previous tenant Old Town Coffee, this outlet styling seems to differ a little than the one at Bugis. Gone were the white walls and replaced with more classier wood and glass styling. Table top selection is also done to match the wall design. They also have longer bench types of seating for 8pax. Thumbs-up for the see thru to the kitchen where you can to see the gourmet chefs go about preparing the food.

Worth mentioning is the nice poster deco near the entrance showing the signature duck mascot and also messages about Christianity. Other than my usual order of duck confit $10.90 (standard is maintained similar to Purvis one, thank god), i had opportunity to also sample garden salad $4.90 which is delightfully appetizing, Salmon Confit $9.90 which melts in your mouth and nicely presented with shredded green apple as sides and also the Saveur pasta $4.90 which is tossed with chilli oil, japanese konbu, sakura ebi and minced pork. Certainly a joy to know a quality joint with mains at sub $10 in a prime area like Orchard. Saveur will certainly see me returning to them for regular visits.

Go on a good day Smile Mar 18, 2013

Although i have found their standard to be fluctuating a little, i still went back for a good lunch. Its just that sometimes their sauce can be a little too salty. But this outing was a good one and i left much delighted, maybe due to the emergence of the copycat next door, the stiff competition has prompted them to tighten their shoe laces a bit smile. At only $5.50, i'm greeted with a plate of mega combo - fried tau kee, tau pok, kang kong, brinjal, white toufu, fried toufu, fried wantan, fishball, bittergourd and of course the sticky gluey bean sauce. The tau kee and taupok are popular choices here and its common to hear people asking for more of those 2 crispy delicacies. Though not the most accessible place to go, i s

25 Seater or so Smile Jan 07, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Hotel | Ramen

Like i mentioned in the title, the small restaurant holds only around 25pax at any one time. Do not expect to be sitting in a big airy restaurant, but a small cosy, somewhat has good japanese ramen soup feel to it. I was there at the restaurant at 520pm and seeing it only opens at 6pm i decided to go walk around tras street area first. By the time i return at 550pm, there was already a queue formed. We were extremely lucky to be the last 2 to get an available seat (counter seat though). Ramen orders are processed speedily. The shop is tended to by just 4 man, one the cashier/kitchen assistant, one chef (japanese, stall manager) and 2 servers. While in the queue outside the shop, you go ahead and fill up an order slip, most diners knew what to do already so i assume they are regulars). You get to choose noodle type, noodle texture, oil level and soup intensity. I chickened out and went for the non spicy version with normal noodle texture, normal oil level and normal soup base...playing it safe smile. While waiting, you do the sesame seed grinding, help yourself to the marinated bean sprouts and also hard-boiled egg (white=normal, brown=low cholesterol). The ramen is served with a huge piece of seaweed, 2 slices of tonkotsu pork, green onions and small piece of black fungus. Additional condiments are also available like bonito flakes and chilli flakes. I also saw many ppl asking for what looks like spicy garlic which kinds of add flavor to the soup. i tried eating it with the tonkotsu pork but did not delight. Soup base is thick and tasty but not overkill. i would ask for less oil in future though. The tamago that came with it is amazing, one of the better ones i've tasted. Sat just in front of the small kitchen preparation area, i could see the chef preparing the soup bowls with different paste planted onto the bowl, maybe that's the secret to the delicious soup base but i sure hope that's not msg paste though. Overall a fantastic eat at $18 per bowl, been there, done that, eaten it and will be back here again smile

Salted Egg Pork Chop Smile Dec 31, 2012
Categories : Singaporean Chinese

Have heard some pretty good reviews about this cafe style ci char place at far east and their signature dish of salted egg pork ribs. Ordered it with an fried egg and cost me $6 in total. I must say i'm impressed with this rice dish. First the pork ribs is more like pork chop so no worries about biting into hard bones with little meat. Each pork chop piece is well coated with salted egg sauce which is creamy yet not too salty. Its fragrance is also enhanced with the chilli padi and curry leaves that its cooked with. Anyway this is the kind of dish you know they deep fry the pork chop first then toss it with the specially made sauce so you feel its instantly cooked and not something that was mass cooked and stored. Thumbs up!
