Stick with the Favorite Cry Mar 25, 2013

My usual order is buddha jump over the wall but decided to try something different his time. Ordered the Gingko Pork Tripe Pepper Soup which cost $5. Ingredients wise its quite little, merely the pig stomach and nothing else. The soup taste quite peppery, typical of such soup. I still prefer my usual order than this one. Also its still better to dine in so that you get to enjoy the extra portioning of soup which you can't enjoy for takeaway smile

I've had better Cry Mar 05, 2013

Categories : Teochew | Hawker Centre

Ordered a $3 mixed ingredients only as a side dish, specifically reminding them no pig skin. I was given the combo of fish cake, tau pok, big intestines, small intestines and pork slices. Wasn't particularly impressed with my order as the pig spare parts did have that smell that reminds off not washing it thoroughly. The sauce was pretty decent though overall very average i must say. There is no garnish even.

Dun Believe What You See Cry Feb 28, 2013

Although i know this is not the 沈希 老火汤 version that is a household favorite, i though if it qualifies as a koufu tenant, it should not be too far off, but i was wrong. This stall tried to operate similarly to the popular franchise, also offering similar menu with free soup top up. Even layout is pretty similar just that their soup pots are placed at waist level instead. Stall is operated by a prc. Prices are also lower than usual, with the buddha jump over the wall at $6.50 only compared to the $8 version from shen xi group. I was badly disappointed, the soup did not taste well, they did not have the "orh" which is usually used in soup to enhance the sweetness. The chicken pieces were also way overcooked and hard to bite. The yam rice was as disappointing though bigger ball, dry and overcooked. I will stick to my shen xi next time, lesson learnt.

Refried Stuffs Cry Feb 22, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre

The only issue with eating at such stalls in the morning is you tend to get served the re-fried stuffs that were kept overnight. That happened to me. Ordered the chicken wing set which includes, fried egg, ikan bilis, chicken wing and 1 piece of cucumber. i added an additional luncheon meat also. Maybe i wasn't too choosy this day, so i did not insist on getting the fresh from wok ones. But it was an unwise decision, totally dun like the re-fried nature of the luncheon meat and chicken wing. i do quite like the chilli sambal though. And the nice quiet ambiance of this hawker centre (which is always perceived as tourist trap) in the morning do make up a little for the disappointment.

Esily Better Elsewhere Cry Feb 22, 2013

Categories : Coffeeshop | Seafood | Zi Char

I know they are supposed to be a crab specialist but did n't know their zi char standard is so low. Order a $4 crispy noodle (sheng main) but was terribly disappointed with the standard. The noodles were not crispy at all, taste more like it has been kept for very long. But the worst part was the gravy was not hot at all. Ingredients wise were pretty normal tasting as well.

Its either the food was left there for long without one serving it to me else something must have went wrong in the kitchen. Overall a disappointing eat but still hope to try their crab one day.
