Interesting Value Meal Combo Smile May 20, 2013

Categories : Filipino | Fast Food | Halal

Was lucky to catch the place with a reasonable queue length? Perhaps the novelty die off already? I waited for just 5min to place my order, 1st i must say the menu is not the easiest to understand, the value meal does not indicate the size of drinks etc. I ordered the value meal with one piece chicken and spaghetti and was surprised with a large drink. It cost $6.80 for the meal. What came in the box is a piece of fried chicken (looks like KFC original recipe), a serving of sausage spaghetti and a some gravy sauce. I think the sauce is signature for jollibee, looks like mash potato gravy but didn't taste like it. It was not to ob ad actually both the chicken and gravy. Its actually quite a nice combination to have the spaghetti as part of a meal. Would definitely like to try the 2 piece chicken meal next time instead. And hopefully the queue remains short smile

Real Claypot Rice OK May 20, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Hawker Centre | Rice

first of all, i must say 511 is a real crowded place on sunday evening, almost every stall is crowded with people. My friendtold me the claypot rice here is nicer than the beach road one so came hunting for it. For $4.50, i ordered the 1 person set. Was kind of disappointed that the claypot was kind of small and thus the amount served. Ingredients wise pretty standard, lup cheong ,chicken, green onions and by default the provided the salted fish. No vege was provided though. Taste wise i would say its average but i do like the salted fish add on. But i observe one thing, that is the rice do not stick to the claypot, it either means the rice was only warm in the pot and not cooked or they perfectly control the timing so well. but i think its the former case coz i've never seen one claypot rice vendor do that. Chilli provided is the red cut chilli and soy sauce.

Fishy Outing Smile May 14, 2013

Located within grassroot club in between yck mrt and nyp, nfs resembles that of jacks place and mariners corner. The staff working are slightly older ones. Lots of fish deco seen within the restaurant.

Ordered the signature seafood platter and also crayfish and fish. The seafood platter resembles a lot like manhatten fish market and fish & co. Being a signature dish, it did live up to its name tag. Delighted to see shishamo fish, big head clams and also scallop as part of the offering, something which the former 2 doesn't offer. The rice is also baked with cheese on it so that makes the rice main dish quite appealing to the taste bud. My partner had the crayfish and fish. The crayfish was cheese baked and the fish came with this nice creamy sauce. Our bill works out to be $45 for 2 pax, also had another plate of shishamo fish as appetizer, quite big sized shishamo fish were served and taste good. Anyway can’t hep but want to suggest that the place can do with a little improvement, a fresh coat of paint, better lighting and new tiles, it should draw in lot more customers.

Taste of Malaysia Smile May 14, 2013

Categories : Bak Kut Teh

A taste of malaysia, that's how i would some up my 1st visit here. This stall replaces the previous hock lam beef.

The BKT is the herbal soup base type, with mixed ingredients from pork ribs to intestines to liver to enoki mushroom to lettuce etc. The small claypot cost $5.80.

Also ordered the braised tow ki $3.80 which is too soft to my liking, was hoping for the crispy type deep in those sweet sauce. The steamed toufu with minced meat is nice and should go well with rice $6.80

Braised peanuts $1 taste a little like canned products, the salted vegetable $1.80 is pretty plain as well.

Fortunately the soup made up for it. We also ordered the honey lemon jelly $2 which is a popular drink in jb malaysia, definitely worth ordering. Also worth mentioning is they do provide soup top up.

Have always thought this was a teochew porridge stall, although the signage did have a frog in front, it was too high for it to be noticeable whenever i drove pass. Turns out this is actually a frog leg porridge and bbq seafood stall. located at the same row as yeo keng nam chicken rice, it has a small carpark which allows may parking up to 15 cars, private parking here so no coupons required. its very much coffee shop style with tables lined up outside the shop. But i like the fact they provide box tissues for diners instead of charging for the wet ones.

Ordered 2 dried chilli frogs $13 with small porridge $2 and sambal tapioca leaves. Was particularly impressed with the sambal tapioca leaf $6 as it was prepared the same style as bbq seafood, pan fried on a banana leave. They also have other vege available like smelly beans and also kai lan. Likewise they also serve sambal sotong, stingray, lala etc and all looks pretty nice. It should be based on how well this tapioca leave is done. The frog leg porridge was above average as well with green onions aplenty provided. Also i think the default taste is not overly spicy, do rem to remind them if you would like it more fiery hot. The porridge was smooths and went very well with the suace. i almost poured all my remaining porridge into the claypot of frog smile Overall a good eat and i'm sure to return soon to try the bbq seafood.
