Japanese Lunch Buffet Smile May 20, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Buffet | Kids-Friendly

My last visit to Himawari Japanese Restaurant was during May 2011. How time flies and this is my second visit with the same mates (my sisters). We made a lunch reservation on one of the Sunday on the month of April. Surprisingly there isn’t full house when we arrive so I think it isn’t necessary to make reservation during weekend lunch. The restaurant is located inside the business park and the companies are closed on weekend.

We had lunch buffet and started to massive order ala-carte based on the ready menu provided. The buffet style here is to order from the lists of ala-carte in the menu to service staff. The chef will start to prepare and get it done to serve to us. Thus, the foods are served in good condition. The sashimi are fresh and the cooked dishes are nicely done as well.

Here are some of the ala-carte that we ordered for our buffet for your viewing pleasure.

I love the sashimi as they are quite generous with thick slices. We absolutely enjoyed the freshness of the fishes. We order more than twice for sashimi. The cooked foods are served in hot condition. The tempura dishes are quite crispy and not too oily too.

We spent our afternoon there enjoying the buffet and the environment is quite relaxing. Most of the customers came in family group. I guess it’s all because it’s weekend thus more of family bonding period.

The nearest mrt is Labrador Park station which is a walking distance of less than 5 minutes to reach the restaurant. I only realized it on my second visit here. So if you are coming by public transport, mrt is one of the accessible & convenient option.

My concept of Fish & Co. is that the restaurant specialize in fish & chips. But this food trail surprised me with different kinds of choices. They came up with the new menu which looks like a magazine cover. Quite an interesting concept!

Clams with Curry Butter @ $11.95
Another award dish in the making. Taste the freshness and sweetness of the clams in curry butter sauce. Served with warm bread’.The clams are nicely done with the curry butter. The use of butter in this dish makes the creamy texture to go with the clam.

Mussels with Spicy Marinara @ $11.95
‘award-winning blue mussels with homemade zesty spicy marinara sauce. served with warm bread’
There is a choice for you either spicy marinara or garlic lemon butter sauce. I can’t take spicy but the other bloggers commented that the spicy marinara taste moderate.

Soft Shell Crab Salad @$11.95.
The presentation is attractive with the giant size deep-fried crab. It is best to have it immediately after served otherwise the soft shell crab will be soggy and not nice to enjoy.

Bombay F&C @ $16.95.
This dish uses up to 5 spices and herbs in the batter. The crispy coating and the smooth and softness of the inner dory is always a plus selling point of F&C.There is a mild curried taste flowing through the tastebud.

Grilled Peri Peri Chicken with Scallops @ $18.95.
The combination of peri peri sauce with grilled chicken is delicious. The scallops with the cheesy topping and sauce brings out the sweetness of it.Loving the mashed potato with the moist and creamy taste.

Black Pepper Chicken Baked Rice @ $13.95.
The combination of cheese topping with the rice grains sticking together is awesome. The black pepper rice is moist and the peppery taste quite strong after having it a while. So i doubt i can finish the whole serving. It will be best to share with dine-in partners.

Shrimp & Clam Aglio Olio Spicy aglio olio @ $14.95
The spicy level is still acceptable for me even though i don’t take spicy. I like the taste of the aglio olio which is not too oily.

Grilled Fish with Ebiko @ $16.95.
This is one of the seasonal catch that released on April 15th. We got the chance to try it before it launch. I totally love the combination of mozzarella cheese and ebiko roe with the grilled fish. The mashed potato is a plus point as well.

Overall it is a nice place to dine in with big groups as the place is able to fit in. Their speciality is not only limited to fish & chips but also to various seafoods as well. Definitely a nice place for youngsters to hang around.

Duck for Lunch Smile Mar 17, 2013

My friend recommended us to this famous duck rice stall located at Sin Ming Road. It's located in between the industrial and residential area. The stall is always in long queue during lunch hour. The foods are sold out before it's closing time.

We were lucky to be few minutes earlier as the duck meat was sold off after we placed an order. We ordered the famous braised duck meat and salted vegetable duck soup. The salted vegetable duck soup is very rich and delicious. We can savour the sweetness and sourness which makes it so appetizing. As for the duck meat, the meat texture is tender and surprisingly not too hard to chew. It goes perfectly well with the plain white rice.

Since it is a hawker stall, you will need to queue, place order, make payment and collect your foods all by yourself. So do not expect someone to serve you. However, i personally will not queue if the wait is more than 15 minutes although the foods served are quite delicious. There are other famous stall available in the coffeeshop to choose from too.

CNY Reunion Dinner with Friends Smile Feb 26, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum

It’s a yearly affair to have CNY dinner with seniors (secondary school mates). Justin was the organizer for this event. He did a great job this time round with the selection venue but slightly pricey for a dinner though. We went to Luk Yu restaurant which is located at Chinatown Point Mall for dinner. Reservation was made and we had the Lunar New Year Set Menu of 10 Pax @ S$488++. The total bill comes out to be S$600 which includes the appertizer and wet towels.
Prosperous Salmon “Yu Sheng” which tasted differently from the ones that I had before. The Yu Sheng has include the shredded yam which makes the dish taste differently. More of crunchy and crispy bites than usual yu sheng.

Signature Crispy chicken that taste absolutely awesome! The skin was crispy and the meat texture was smooth and tender. It’s not too hard nor too soft. It was just nice to enjoy it.

Braised Shark’s Fin with Crab Meat. It taste good as it looks. The crab meat was seen obviously in the soup. I prefer to have it original taste. Sorry no photo for this.

Steamed Grouper Fillet with XO sauce. Loving this dish with the soft silken tofu as the below topping of the fish fillet. There is no fishy smell and one of us who do not take fish also tried that night. It’s definitely thumbs up.

Stew Seasonal Vegetable in superior stock. The green vegetables with red dates and superior stock washed away the greasiness and oiliness we had earlier. The soup does not have the vegetables taste and the vegetables are fresh as well.

Combination of Roasted Duck. Roasted Pork and Pork Belly. We were quite surprise with the presentation and portion given. It was served small for 10 pax and we went around taking one piece at one time to make sure everyone has a taste of it.

Wok Fried Prawns with asparagus and leeks. The size of the prawns was quite big and everyone seems happy with the size. The taste wise is ok.

Wok fried fragrant glutinuous rice with assorted preserved meat which taste ok for me only. The presentation looks small for us. We don’t really enjoyed it as the glutinuous rice is slightly harder to consume when it becomes cold. So, it will be best to served hot condition and consume immediately to enjoy the fragrance and smoothness.

Braised whole 6 head abalone with Chinese mushroom and sea moss. Definitely a beautiful presentation. Everyone gets a slice of the head abalone and the sauce prepared blends well with the dish.

Dinner ended with glutinuous dumpling with red bean pasta. The sesame paste flowed out immediately after a bite and I love having it with the red bean pasta. Not too sweet and just perfect to end my wonderful Friday night dinner.

Company CNY Dinner Smile Feb 25, 2013
Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Seafood | Zi Char | Kids-Friendly

It’s my company’s tradition to have CNY dinner after resuming work from CNY holiday. This year round we had our dinner at House of Seafood 180 located at 36 Yio Chu Kang road. The signboard of the restaurant was shinning brightly from the row of shophouses. It is easily recognized from far. Since it is still during CNY period, we made a reservation for 2 tables that fits 22 pax at the second session. Understand that there are two dinning sessions which is 6.30pm and 8pm. We decided to go for 8pm the second session as everyone was busy working even after knock off time.

Since it is CNY period, the restaurant came out with CNY special menus package for customers to choose from. Our package for the night was S$588 ++(10 pax). The dishes were sufficient for 11 pax per table which all of us were quite full towards end of the dinner.
First, we have the Prosperity Salmon Raw Fish “Yu Sheng”. It was served with colourful combination of the yusheng ingredients such as slices of fresh salmon, various shredded vegetables, pok chu crackers and etc. The sweet plum sauce wasn’t too sweet and sour and blends well with the shredded vegetables.

Next comes the Braised Shark’s Fin soup with crab meat and conpoy. The soup was thick enough and you can taste the bites of the shark fins and crab meat when you sip the soup.

Braised Abalone with assorted dried seafood in casserole.Combination of brocolli, mushrooms, sea cucumbers and fish maw in the dish.

Steamed Red Garoupa in Hong Kong Style which taste awesome. The fish was fresh and there is no fishy smell as well. Loving the meat texture smooth and soft.

I definitely give a thumb up for the Golden Creamy Butter Lobster. It was delicious! Everyone enjoyed it especially the creamy butter sauce that is nicely done. The fleshy lobster meat with the sauce gives everyone a good start for the dinner.

The famous signature black pepper crabs (2 crabs). The strong black pepper with the black soya sauce makes the whole crab taste spicy. The meat is fleshy white which taste sweet but i don’t really fancy the black pepper taste. But colleagues enjoyed the spicy black pepper taste though.

There is also glutinous rice in lotus leaf which exactly similiar dishes that are always served in wedding dinners. But we replaced them with fried noodles.
The dinner ended with Ice Jelly with sea coconut. All ended well with the taste of dessert sweetness.

The serving was well managed by the staff as we can enjoy each dishes and not hurrying to finish them. The staff will change our plates from time to time as well to make sure we have clean plate to dine in. Overall the dinner experience was nice except the location is quite inconvenient if we are taking public transport.
