Sisters and I decided to have lunch at The Central mall on one of the weekend. We were recommended to Marutama Ramen which is located at level 3 of the shopping mall. The restaurant serves only ramen with chicken broth and that is rather different from other ramen restaurants.

We ordered Marutama Ramen @S$12.00 which is known as the chicken soup ramen with toppings (non-spicy). The broth taste savoury and light compared to pork broth. The noodles are springy and chewy. As for the sliced char siew, the texture is soft and tender. The ramen tasted better with the fried garlic chips that were placed at every dinning table. We loved the crispy fried garlic and this enhanced the flavour of the dish

Additional toppings of ingredients are available in the menu for you to choose from. The prices range from S$1.50 to S$5.00 depending on the items that you ordered.

We also ordered Char Siew Gohan @S$5.00 to try. The tasted of the dish is fine and the portion wise is just nice for a pax. We shared among 4 of us just to have a taste of it. But I would suggest going for ramen when you are dropping by.

Serving time was efficient and fast. The staffs processed the order within 10minutes time. They are quite attentive to the services as our green tea is re-fill promptly. We would be glad to patronize the restaurant in future with the reasonable price offered and staff services.

My friend and I had an impromptu dinner on Friday night. We decided to go with asian cuisine and here we are in Grandma’s Restaurant. The restaurant has the spacious interior design that gives customers’ a comfort dinning experience.

My friend ordered Hokkien Noodles @S$10.90 which served egg noodles, fresh seafood and chicken, wok-fried together with dark soy sauce. We can taste the wok- taste from the servings. It reminds me of the hokkien noodles that I had in Kuala Lumpur.

Nasi Lemak @S$10.90 which is one of the signature dish to order. Aromatic coconut rice served with chicken curry, sambal ikan bilis, hard boiled egg, achar and fresh cucumber. The portion is certainly a filling one as I can’t manage to finish all the ingredients by myself. The gravy was rich and aromatic taste. It is utterly addictive to have it with the coconut rice and chicken. Achar tasted normal as you can find from any stalls in my point of view.

My friends also ordered 2 bottles of Kirin Beer with the total of S$9.60 only. There is a signboard banner hung outside the display of the restaurant showing the price down for 3 types of beers (Tiger , Kirin & Erdinger).

Total billable inclusive of service charge and GST was S$55.65. We were quite pleased with the serving time and the staffs are polite to us. However, I find it a bit costly for a plate of nasi lemak and hokkien noodles which I can get to taste them back in Malaysia. Neverthless, you are paying for the dinning ambience.

Not A Wise Choice Cry Dec 27, 2013

My friends and I decided to have a drink on Christmas Eve. We headed to Brussels after dinner. We were approached by the staff to try on their Christmas special menu. I decided to give it a try on the special edition appetizer called Magnum & Vienetta @S$18++. It is actually the white asparagus & parma ham with vienetta ice-cream and foie gras & almond magnum. The combination triggers my interest so I decided to give it a try. I was quite disappointed with the presentation and the portion given. As for the taste wise, I don’t feel the combination taste right. White asparagus with the vienetta ice-cream taste bland and the parma ham tasted much more stronger. Taste of the foie gras is there but I think the combination with magnum ice-cream tasted weird. I can’t taste the magnum taste too.

Mamak Foods OK Dec 26, 2013

I used to patronize ‘mamak stall’ during my Uni times. It is a trend among the students where everyone just sit there and chit chatting for hours at the stall along the roadside. My lady boss was craving for malay foods and we decided to have it for lunch.

We ordered 2 roti canai telur (egg), 1 roti canai (no additional ingredients), Indian rojak and maggi mee goreng to share among 3 of us. Roti canai is literally translated into ‘flatbread;. It is the mixture between and Indian paratha and roti. The dough was spread thinly and fold into sheets with our add on eggs as the additional ingredients tasted crispy and fluffy. Served with the meat curry enriches the taste of the bread.

Indian rojak contains fried dough fritters, beancurds, boiled potatoes, prawn fritters, bean sprouts, cuttlefish and cucumber mixed with sweet thick and spicy peanut sauce. It is completely different dish from our Chinese rojak. We can choose the ingredients and the staff will have them cut into smaller pieces and mix them together with the sauce. We love the combination of crunchy and crispy taste.

Maggi mee goring is literally stir fried instant noodles with vegetables and eggs and maybe few pieces of cube size chicken meat. A slice of lime is placed at the side of the plate to enhance the taste of the noodles.

Overall lunch bill inclusive of drinks was S$14++. Payment is made at the cashier counter and you will need to list down the foods and drinks ordered to the staff. They will then base on your information to bill you.

Chicken Hotpot for Dinner  Smile Dec 25, 2013

Whenever rainy days or cold weather, i would craved for something hot and Chicken Hotpot is one of my favourite list. I can smell the distinctive aroma few shops away. There is always a queue during dinner time but it wasn't a long wait though. Menus are displayed in front of the shop and we get to decided what to have beforehand. Chicken Hotpot was originated from Shanghai and franchised by Chicken Hotpot Shanghai. That's explain the strong and unique flavor that attracts the attention of people walking pass the restaurant.

My colleague and I ordered the couple set (which comes with a small signature chicken hotpot, a small spicy shrimp hotpot and 2 drinks) for $33.80++.Small signature chicken hotpot comes with thick savory sauce and small pieces of chicken meat, capsicum, onion and chili. Did i mentioned that the staff will check with the customer on the level of spiciness we want beforehand? We choose the less spiciness because both of us cannot take spicy stuffs. The sauce is thick and concentrate which we loved to have it with plain rice. The staff will starts to add stock to dilute it along our dinner and it becomes fragrant soup to consume.

The spicy shrimp hotpot comes with sweet and spicy sauce, fried prawns, french fries and celery. This is the first time seeing the combination of the prawn with french fries dipped with the sauce. We can add stock to the special sauce as well.

There is a display steamboat ingredients fridge at a corner where customers can self-take the items such as mushrooms, vegetables, eggs and more to add into the soup. All these will be additional cost based on the colour of the plate. The staff will check on the table plates before we take the bill to the counter to make payment.

Total bill comes with 10% service charge and 7% GST. I got the 10% discount off total bill voucher so managed to get further discount for the bill. So if you like strong food flavors, you might want to give it a try.
