La Petite Cuisine is a Restaurant serving French food in Thomson at very affordable prices. A meal for a family of 3 costs less than SGD40. And it doesn't scrimp on the quatity and the quality is commendable as well.Confit de canard aka Duck Confit (SGD16.50) with a side of potato gratin.

The duck was crisp and it was throughly fried throughout without drying out the meat. The duck meat was tender, juicy and the accompanying sauce wasn't too salty and complimented the dish.

A must try!

Rating: 5.0 / 5.0 The gratin was well baked, creamy and soft without being too dry. You can choose between the gratin and frites.Cheesy pasta with crabmeat

The pasta is al dente and there are generous chunks of crabmeat. Fresh and succulent, I am impressed with the freshness of the crabmeat. No stale nor fishy frozen crabmeat tasted here. The sauce is cheesy without being too rich.

Rating: 4.2 / 5.0

Dory fish with white wine butter and rice (SGD12.50)

The dory fish was fresh, flaky, and doesn't have any of the fishy / muddy water taste. It tasted slightly sweet and the sauce was slightly sourish and provided an contrasting zing to the buttery rice.

The portions are generous for that price.

Creme caramel

It isn't the prettiest looking and smoothest creme caramel with all the air bubbles but it tasted pretty ok. Not the best but it was pretty palatable.

Chef Janice is really friendly and she does all the cooking herself. You can observe her cooking and preparing in the open concept kitchen and all food are made ala minute. She makes a point to go to every table to ask if the food is to your liking. Kudos to her!

The service is quick and no frills - you place your orders at the cashier counter in the kitchen (cash terms only) and you've got to get your ice water from the water flask provided. You don't get fancy cutlery, cups (you drink out from a plastic cup) and table cloth (no crisp linen white table cloth here) but what you get is a cosy restaurant which serves great french food at affordable prices.

The place is tiny and can accomodate about 15-20 people inside and another 10 outside, reservations are highly recommended.

After having dinner at Orchard, hubby and I decided to have some desserts at Sun with Moon and as it turns out, the glutton in us ordered more than just desserts.

We loved the zen decor of the restaurant and the menu offerings. The menu varies as they have a specific menu for lunch, tea and dinner.

It was a refreshing change from similar japanese joints Ichiban Boshi, Sushi Tei and Itacho.

Kyoho grape soda with fruits.
The sparkling soda isn't too sweet, but redolent with the fragrance and fruitiness of kyoho grape. The fruits added a zesty flavour to the drink. A very delightful, summery and thirst-quenching drink.

Ebi Mayonnaise SGD9.80
Crispy prawns in mustard mayonnaise and avocado. The prawns were fresh and succulent to the bite and the batter was crisp and warm. Topped with the mustard mayonnaise, it gave a slight spiciness to the dish. The mustard used were mustard seeds instead of mustard sauce. The "bowl" that it was served in was edible too! It is actually a cracker. It demonstrated that alot of effort went into creating and making the dish.

Rating. 4.8 / 5.0

Tontoro Yaki SGD11.80

Grilled sliced pork cheek with black pepper.

The meat was chewy and slightly gamey. But the black pepper and smokey grilled flavour complements the dish. Hubby and I disliked the meat and we struggled to finish the dish. It is something that we will not be ordering again.

Salmon with mentai mayo and chili & Salmon with Mentai sushi

The flame-grilled salmon isn't charred nor overcooked and the fish was soft and juicy. The smokey flavour and the creaminess of the mentai is absolutely delicious! I would order this over and over. Heck I think I would eat this everyday!

Rating: 5.0 / 5.0

Murasaki Imo Mille Feuille SGD6.50

Purple sweet potato and red bean piped on a bed of custard and encased in a puff pastry.

This is a quite sight to behold and so much thought went to the plating of a dessert. I adore the intense purple hue contrasted against the yellow and it's sweetness was complemented with the pastry. And this only costs SGD6.50.
