definitely one of the more popular stalls here near OG. The yong tau foo set probably needs no introduction, you get one noodle with minced pork, yong tau foo pieces like 1 toufu, 1 fishball, 1 tau pok, 1 fried beancurd, 1 ngoh hiang. i ordered the set so it comes with a plate of scalded kang kong enhanced with topping of fermented beancurd sauce. I did find the fermented beancurd sauce a little too salty today but overall it was good. i like to add on the sweet sauce to the noodle itself. its self service at the stall here.

$3 FTW Chix Rice Smile Sep 10, 2013

Categories : Malay | Singaporean | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

For just $3, Mat Noh offers good value for money with its chicken rice. The rice is non plain rice and not too oily which is nice. The chicken is fried type and comes served with a little bit of the fritters. It goes well with its black sauce mixed with red ginger chilli, making it more sweet than spicy. I like the fact the chicken is not too dry and oily. The bowl of soup is quite average though. Road side coffee shop, despite being an old setup, it is a popular favorite with muslim friends and office workers in the area. despite being at a less than popular location, you will still see queues lining up during lunch time. Self service though.

No Cockles Please Smile Sep 10, 2013

This stall has remained despite the coffeeshop owners changing hands. Famous for its satay beehoon and cuttlefish Kang Kong. I ordered the $3.50 portion with the cockles. 1st impression is the gravy was a little oily (see photo) but i soon realized it actually helps to enhanced the flavor when mixed, much like how laksa chilli oil works. Ingredients wise you get lean meat cuttlefish (yew yu), lean meat, kang kong and pig liver. Tip is to stir it up immediately once served coz that the piping hot temperature of the food cooks the ingredients further. Though the sauce loses out to east coast old recipe, its good enough to satisfy any satay beehoon craving. Thumbs up. Self service here though.

Royal Rumble Smile Aug 21, 2013

Categories : Malay | Hawker Centre | Halal

Was here for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon at 130pm, thank god there was no queue and only one other person ahead of me. First thing that catches the eye is the interesting menu, much depicting the different combination of poker game. I went ahead for the Royal Rumble which is supposed to include everything they have on menu. There are 2 prices indicated for all, i supposed its the take away price. One of the staff will be right at the stall front and will pass the nasi lemak set out to you.

I had asked for more chilli but the amount given was still quite little. My RR set comes with one otah (the bigger one usually sold at $2 or $3 elsewhere), one deep fried chicken wing, one kuning fish, 1 slice of cucumber . one fried egg, a bit of anchovies and fishcake (there was no more potato). Ok so RR does not include all items smile . The rice tasted pretty normal to me but it was the chix wing, ikan bilis, kuning fish and chilli that impressed. The chix wing though looking a little overly fried was super crispy with nicely cooked meat inside. It doesn't feel oily as well. The ikan bilis was also crunchy, just like the kuning fish. Now i could understand the reason behind the long queue always. But at $5.50, it may not appeal to everybody i think.

August Special Smile Aug 14, 2013

one of the new stalls in this koufu food court. Was attracted by the august promotion of juicy beef teriyaki going at $7.90 instead of the usual $8.70. The set includes few slices of beef, one egg, mushroom slices, lettuce and some chilli and one french bean as garnish. It also comes with a bowl of miso soup and a rice. The sukiyaki sauce was poured over it and ingredients stirred and mixed to the done-ness as per desired. After cooking the quantity of food shrank a little, fortunately being a hot food lover, i have no complains. But i must say i actually prefer dipping the beef into the honey brown sauce instead of the chilli sauce. The beef was nice and tender the sukiyaki based dipped in the brown sauce combined very well. The miso soup was also nice to add onto the plain rice to make it more appetizing.
