porridge only not rice Smile Nov 04, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre | Porridge/Congee | Chicken Rice

Take note this stall does not sell rice but only porridge option. For $18.80, i shared half a chicken and a huge plate of raw fish yu sheng with my parents. The porridge is the more watery non gluey type but the grains have been cooked long so its soft to the the bite. The way i like to consume the food is to dip the chicken into the piping hot porridge then eat it. You can also do likewise to the raw fish. But the raw fish sauce combination is the winner. It has simple ingredients, crispy cracker, carrot floss, ginger, scallion and topped with squeezed lime juice, its a perfect compliment to the porridge. The chicken is not the small kampung ones but big and meaty. Highly recommended. The accompanying chilli sauce is slightly to the spicier side. Few stalls away i think is the sister operating a chicken rice stall but gossip says they are loggerheads.

quiet place to have lunch, not crowded as its not a good location. The way to go about here is to order at the stall front then pay at the counter whee you will be asked for your drinks order as well. They seem to offer a good selection of nasi padang dishes. i chose the fried chicken which was nice and not too oily. Also had fried egg and green beans. And ordered teh bing. It works out to be $8 actually but i'm not complaining ,the food is pretty good and do remember to ask for the sambal chilli which is a must . The oher plus point is you can just park beside the stall while looking out for fatimah. They seem to have one outlet in malaysia as well.

Waffle ice cream Smile Oct 31, 2013

Finally had the chance to try the waffle. Ice cream flavor I chose pistachio and chocolate orange. The waffle is nice, a bit expensive though. Did not really like the chocolate orange flavor though. Should hv stick to earl grey. Waffle will be served in 2 pieces. It's made on the spot so its served warm. You help yourself to the plain water inside the cafe itself. My bill was $10.80.

Anyway there are two tables outside the cafe with one of the table expandable to fit more people if needed. Smokers will like it.

Korean Pancake? Smile Oct 31, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Coffeeshop | Seafood | Zi Char

Parking is always a challenge in this region but its free parking after 5pm though. We parked near the indian provision shops area and walked down instead. This coffeeshop interior has been given new reinforcement in the form of steel support beams etc, probably with the concern of caving in due to the site works just nearby?

Anyway to the food, there were 5 of us and qty ordered below was just nice.

we ordered the large crispy vermicelli $18, one baby cabbage with fried hay bee shrimps $10, one steamed kampung chicken with wolf-berry $14 and one thai style pig trotter $22. The chao ta bee hoon came looking like Korean pancake actually with some green scallion, beanspouts and fored pork lard on top. It taste good, i like this style better that the toa payoh bai meefen, its slightly moist not not overly wet. The fried mini shrimps for the vege were bigger than normal, it went went with the nai bai chye. The wolfberry chicken reminds me of home-cooked style dish, i like the sauce though i find it a little too oiy, also it seems like this dish is a pre frozen one then heated up upon demand. The pig trotter was good not fatty, the only fatty part felt more like collagen. The skin is mostly crispy and dipped in the thai style chilli, it rivals that of german pork knuckle.

At least it's not $8.50 Smile Oct 21, 2013

Categories : Chicken Rice

Recently there is a hype over the price of chicken rice at orchard ion. Today I will review another orchard rd chic rice and thankfully it's not $8.50. Packet in a standard styrofoam box, I get around 10 slices of chicken and handful of chicken gizzards 鸡肝 together with the fragrant rice. This sets me back at $6. Roasted chicken is my choice, they also sell white chicken. My only gripe is its a little dry otherwise a fantastic eat, totally satisfying the chic rice craving. I also like that only lean meat is given. It's also nice they offer both dark soy sauce and chili for take away.
