Missing New York Strip OK Jun 18, 2013
Categories : Steaks and Grills

Having lunch alone so chose to have some nice steak at reasonable prices, Aston's always comes to mind smile Ordered the sirloin steak with garden vege and pasta. It was lunch time but the place was not entirely crowded so was quite disappointed that my food took 25min to arrive. One thing to note is they charge 30cents for plain water. The steam as usual was well cooked but it makes me miss my new york strip instead.

Hawker Western Delight Smile Jun 18, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre

Ordered the pork chop olio after my friend kept singing praises about this hawker stall. First the stall front seems more open concept than others, you place your orders and pay on the spot then wait for your food to be delivered. The servers also include on old uncle who sometimes can get a little confused with what was already served and what was not. Also he almost wanted to collect money from me again smile But nothing to serious, its good to see the old folk probably helping out what looks like supposedly his son at the stall.

Back to the food, this $6 dish quantity delights fellow diner with its generous pasta serving. As the kitchen was open concept, i could see the pasta was cooked from precooked packets, just added to boiling water than to the flat wok for cooking with the other spices. For hawker standard i would rate it pretty well, not overcook at all. Next is the pork chop itself, served with mushroom sauce on top, the well grilled pork chop was impressive with the 1st bite. If only there was more. Its the typical flattened kind of pork shop but the degree it was grilled to was perfect. Never had such good pork chop for quite a while already. Overall a fantastic eat.

Looks Good but Lacking in Taste Cry Jun 18, 2013

Ordered the 香底米粉, its like the beehoon version of crispy seafood noodles. Looks wise can't fault it much, seems to have most of the standard ingredients like prawn, chye sim, pork, sotong, egg white etc. But in the taste department, i felt it lacking quite a bit, it was like it was just half way there, the sauce gravy is a little too bland for my liking. This ci char dish cost me $4.50.

Could have been better Cry Jun 17, 2013

$14 for 20 satay is considered one of the pricier offerings for food court / hawker centre satay. I ordered 10 chicken and 10 beef satay each. You place your order with the stalls and proceed to find your own seat.

I was disappointed with the taste, the meat itself does not taste freshly grilled, doesn't have that bite feel to it. Also the peanut sauce was below average, cooked in a huge rice cooker, it certainly does not have the smell of pineapple in abundance or peanut. The satay was accompanied with a bit of cucumber and onion. Overall a disappointing eat.

The place had a nice concept with the small table and low stools, alfresco style, but I felt it could do better with a little more ventilation like maybe sheltered fans etc. When we were there, there was no wind at all and it was getting a little uncomfortable to sit around.

Lau Pa Sat still come across to me more of THE satay place to go.

Chicken Rice Ball Smile Jun 17, 2013
Categories : Hainanese | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

My ala carte set costs $4.80. One person portion of roast chicken, big bowl of peanut chicken feet soup (request auntie to give you big size one), one tau kwa and 2 chicken rice ball. Very delighted with how the beancurd was served, on a small plate and generous amount of gravy which is used for the char siew rice. The soup offered was also with peanuts and chicken feed. Chicken was good as usual, smooth and with no fatty parts. The rice ball to me is more of a fun thing since its produced in limited qty everyday, its actually quite hard. Likely i will go for the normal grain rice instead next time. Chilli was normal but the meat itself makes up for it. Drivers tips is to park at loading area and sit where you can see your car smile. By the way, this place is pretty near braddel mrt station.
