Shepherd's pie OK Aug 25, 2013
Categories : Café

It’s surprisingly quite empty even during dinner hours and everywhere else was crowded so we decided to settle for dinner there!

I ordered The Craft Shepherd’s Pie ($14) because it has a recommended sign beside and I really wanted to have some meat for dinner. The shepherd’s pie consists of mashed potato on top and minced beef below. It makes quite a good combination for the first few mouthful but subsequently I got sick of it as there’s too much beef. The mashed potato was good though, not too wet or too dry. The salad that comes with it was quite normal, not plated very nicely and not much dressing. I was pretty much just eating the vegetables on its own.

I would recommend "The Craft Sandwich ($11.50)" which I saw my friend eating, it’s waffles with bacon in between. I think it’s the nicest dish of the night! No GST or service charge, the price on the menu is what you have to pay only. Plain water are complimentary, self service.

Overall, we didn’t really have a great dinner there. I supposed The Craft is better for its coffee, sandwiches and cakes, mains are not their speciality.

Chowder OK Aug 25, 2013

I ordered the Peace, Love and Muscles Chowder ($8.50) which was their chef's special! I upgrade it to a set that comes with a drink and a sandwich for an additional $4.90. I had ice lemon tea and ham&cheese sandwich!

The soup already comes with a bread of its own, plus the soup was really thick and full of mussels. My friend tried it and he didn't like it. I supposed if you don't eat much vegetables on a regular basis, you won't like this soup because it has spinach taste in it and the soup is actually greener as compared to the picture shown there. The bread which was free, was really nice to eat! You can either eat it on its own or dip into the soup. The soup consists of a generous amount of ingredients, I would say the soup itself is 50% and ingredients 50%, and this is why it will make you full before you even finish it. I got very sick of it halfway through, so it's actually better to share with your friend.

The ham&cheese sandwich was really great!!!! It's nicely plated with salad at the side. The cheese and ham really makes a good combination! The bread itself was really nice and soft too. The salad had some raisins in it and it added some sweetness to the overall taste which is sour, yet sweet.

Generally, after trying soup spoon for two times, I think the next time I go to soup spoon again, I'll be trying more of the sandwiches than the variety of soups. And I think it will be better for two person to share one set because the soup is really filling.

Fish soup OK Aug 25, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre | Porridge/Congee | Chinese Soup

My mum recommended this fish soup stall to us when we were in Chinatown yesterday! I love fish soup so I could not pass this up for the rest of the food!

I ordered the fish soup + bowl of rice for $5. For $5, there's quite a generous amount of sliced fish inside. However, the fish were sliced quite thickly. I prefer it to be thinner though. There's vegetables, 2 pieces of small tofu and 1 slice of tomato inside. The soup was okay, not too salty but not very flavourful too.

Fries and fries OK Aug 25, 2013
Categories : American | Café

Went to rock & ash once and I brought my friends there because of the rather affordable set meal (less than $10 each after 20% discount), although it might have been a wrong choice because they ran out of olive rice and we were heavily spammed with fries instead sad So make sure to be there earlier because they ran out of sides pretty fast, except for the fries. We went there at around 8pm.

We ordered 2 dips medium fries and they gave us another complimentary small one because they ran out of a lot of things. But we didn’t finish because our mains had fries as well, which we didn't know! Our dips were Spicy BBQ, Garlic Mayo, and a Nancho cheese which was complimentary. All mains come with a set of free flow drink and free flow of soup. Yes you heard it! FREE FLOW! But the soup of the day, mushroom soup, was a tad disappointing though. I supposed it's because the soup was finishing and we got a lot of sediments from the bottom of the pot.

fried dory fish

I ordered a fried dory fish for myself and I didn’t really like it because it seems to be heavily deep fried. I had to scrap off the fried outer layer else I would have ulcers. The fried dory fish itself wasn't very big already, and after scrapping off the skin, it was even smaller. But I really like my coleslaw though! smile

Anyway for all our food we spent a total of $38! Which is less than $10 per person! My friend had the beef burger which I really recommend!! The meat was so succulent and juicy I regretted not ordering that instead. The staff were quite apologetic that they ran out of some of the sides that we wanted, so they gave us the complimentary fries without telling us and at that time we already ordered our fries, so we ended up with too much fries.

Bak kut teh OK Aug 18, 2013
Categories : Food Court | Chinese Soup

Back to cineleisure for a cheap and tasty dinner, this time I tried the bak kut teh at koufu! It costs $4.50, and $0.50 for a bowl of rice. The first taste of the soup was extremely peppery and my mouth was on fire. But each subsequent mouthfuls, the soup became better, in fact it was very appetizing. The pork ribs didn't have a lot of meat and I was struggling to get meat out of it, not only it's little but difficult to get the meat from the bone. There's only pork ribs in the soup and nothing else so you either eat the rice with the soup or with the meat. For $5 it's a little pricey though.
