I have to start off by saying that this corner dessert stall was the missing puzzle piece of the Bedok 85 food scene. The vibrantly striking colors add life to the old dreary place and till today, stands as the one and only dessert stall in the area.

The stall offers over 20 different desserts, ranging from hot desserts like Pulot Hitam and red bean soup, to ice-cold refreshing desserts like our local favorites, ice kachang and fruit cocktail ice jelly.

The desserts on their own are nothing new, not any better than the standard you'll usually get elsewhere. Quite average to me.

They are however, great as thirst- quenchers on hot sunny days, and are especially appealing after the satays, BBQ chicken wings, fried oyster omelette and fried kway teow (all popular dishes here).

I guess the main reason why this stall receives so many patronizing customers lies in the fact that there isn't any other dessert stall as alternative.

I know of some people who like the tapioca with coconut sauce sold here. Not exactly my kind of dessert, but since they tell me it's nice, I guess it is then!

Another thing that is good about them is that they serve generous portions. Not a lot but enough to meet your money's worth.

The auntie at the stall can be rather grumpy on certain days, especially when there's a
queue building up.

Overall, nothing great or different about this dessert stall compared to others. They only make an awesome end to your meals.

Seafood Extravaganza  Smile May 20, 2012

My boyfriend and I wanted to try out a different buffet and after some searching online, we came across a reasonably priced Spice Brasserie.

We visited the restaurant on a weekday night and it was quite empty except for three occupied tables. I guess that the 'lack' of customers around also resulted in a more laid back service experience.

The one thing different about this buffet is the offer of free flow beer without any extra cost. But we didn't want to fill up on beer, only on food. tongue

They had an average spread, in my opinion. Nothing too fancy.

There was cold food like crab, shrimp and shellfish. They also had a cooked seafood section, where they will prepare the food as you order. Some of the dishes here were the grilled stingray, seafood tom yam, chilli crab, squid and crayfish.

Other food they have included seafood tempura, fried chicken wings, etc.

I wouldn't say the buffet was bad, not at all in fact. But I do believe the dining ambience made the dinner feel very tiring and boring.

Don't Walk Past, Walk In Smile Aug 06, 2011

I, together with my boyfriend and his parents went to the famous Pow Sing Restaurant at Serangoon Gardens. As usual, there was a long queue outside, so we waited.

We ordered their Nonya Fish Head Curry. Tasted really goood… but being a true blue bibik ( I come from a Peranakan family), I personally felt it should have been better.
After all, this is a food business and it is only natural for me to expect more from it. My mum’s Fish Head curry could easily win this hands-down.

Even my boyfriend didn’t quite like it. He took nothing more than a few small bits of the fish cos the taste was too strong for his liking. *?* Beats me too.

How can you call yourself a Singaporean when you don’t like fish head curry? Haha. But it meant more for the rest of us!

We also had the Sambal Cuttlefish Kang Kong. Taste wise, not bad. But what I really loved about this dish was the cuttlefish. It was melt-in-your-mouth smooth and soft.

And we ordered one spicy otah for each of us. Perhaps one of the best otahs I’ve tasted. Really good.

Those who’ve visited this restaurant would already know that the steamed chicken here is a popular favourite. Quite honestly though, it wasn’t meeting my expectations that evening. It's supposed to be good, but turned out not to be as tender and tasty as expected.

I would recommend this place for dinner. Just remember to come early!

My family of about 20 of us visited Canton Kitchen for dinner. It was a reunion with relatives from Australia, America and London and we wanted to gather for dinner at a place not only with good Asian food, but that was also affordable, comfortable and conducive for catching up.

My uncle suggested this place in Eastpoint Mall called Canton Kitchen. None of us have been there, but we were all willing to give it a shot.

The restaurant is very 'cozy'. It was relatively small in size and could only hole about 100 people at a time.

One step inside and we could tell that it was a more economical version of the typical Chinese chain restaurant.

The food was very tasty. Well, most Chinese food are anyway. Nothing great, but nothing bad either. My favourite for the night was the Deep Fried Shrimp, which i believe was dipped in slated egg yolk before deep frying. Loved the flavour and aroma of the dish.

The sweet and sour pork was good too, but maybe too normal for me. I wouldn't say it's a must-try though.

The duck skin wrapped in flour skin was disappointing. It was a little soggy for me and not the usual crisp texture we would get elsewhere.

Overall, the food was good and they were served quite fast.

I would recommend it... if you were living nearby and don't like travelling far for Chinese food.

I brought my boyfriend to Santaro thinking it would be nice to try top-quality authentic Japanese food for a change. I knew the prices were going to be steep, but I figured that the prices must mean that whatever's brewing in their kitchen, must be good.

Okay, so here's the thing. The meal was indeed delicious and authentic. The Sushi and Sashimi were extremely fresh and meticulously sliced to perfection. The Teriyaki Chicken and Unagi were beyond tasty, oozing with flavor, and melting in your mouth with every bite.

The Udon was heavenly. If you're a fan of this dish, you'll definitely have to try theirs. I swear I've never had soft and smooth udon noodles with such powers of seduction like this one.

So all in all, the food was amazing. But is it worth the price?

I personally don't think so.

The restaurant looked old, crammed and rundown. Maybe it's for the whole traditional Japanese feel - I don't know. But it felt lifeless and dull. We could even hear the kitchen from where we were sitting.

The service was much to be desired. They shouted to each other like we were in some hawker centre. Worse still, the waitress serving us spoke to us like we were in a coffee shop ordering drinks.

If the ambience was better and service up to standard, I might consider it to be a good place to go to for authentic Japanese food. But with all the negatives, I'd advice against that.
